We’re not ready for democratic governance yet in Nigeria. We’re only pretending to be practicing democracy. It’s a shame that the largest country in Africa cannot conduct a hitch free State governorship elections without officials of the superintending Agency INEC not being compromised to subvert the will of the people.
Until INEC is made a primary party in election litigations and made to provide evidentiary and supporting documents to justify whatever result they’re declaring in elections, we’re just wasting our time. INEC must prove why they have arrived at a decision to declare a particular candidate as winner of an election, otherwise the election should be canceled and a rerun ordered. Nigeria has become the laughing stock in the world because every facet of our national life is compromised and fraud is the order of the day. Election must be free fair and credible for it to be legitimate. We’re not conducting elections in Nigeria; what we’re doing is selection of people to occupy public offices. The Nigerian people are being disenfranchised from choosing their representatives in accordance with set guidelines in what is supposed to be the so called electoral law.
