Presonus R65 REBORN (Teardown, Modifications, and Comparison)

This video is my journey with the Presonus R65 V1. I used these monitors for a long time before one quit working. It would turn off randomly, so I contacted presonus. The V2 R65 uses a different main board, and I was tasked with finding a replacement V1. After both replacement V1s failed I decided I would convert the monitors to passive and replace the amp all together. Here are my results..

I found the cause of the monitor turning off, the position is vertical or horizontal does not matter, it's all about the capacitors, replace all the capacitors in the monitor and it will work fine

Which capacitors are you referring to? How many are there? Could you send a picture? My turns on (led lits) but its dead.

do you think presounus eris studio 8 gen 2 is more pleasing for listening music then r65 v2?

Hi, if you make damping isolation inside the monitor that will make huge difference.Also get rid of plastic covers , they are ringing . I used double 6 mm isolation layer ,besides front face inside used 3 layer ,also cover plastic horn.Results should be there is no resonance .

as I understand it, presonus made a too good product that did not pay for itself, so they made the second series of these monitors, where the amplifier is from Eris. In fact, in the sub-$1,000 price range, D with DSP will be much better than A/B. Therefore, those who have the first series and these monitors are still lucky, because these monitors sound much better than their price. Tell me your opinion, do you think the second series is better?

I prefer the R65 V1 over the V2 and the Sceptre, Presonus says they use the Eris board because it’s “tried and tested”, but honestly after they were bought out by Fender in 2021 the whole company (from products to support) has declined. I believe the old Presonus support would have been able to help me fix the R65 instead of treating it like its disposable.

I had both. The V1's peaked with distortion at higher volumes. The v2's outperform the v1's at higher volume levels, which for me makes the v2's better overall. With this upgrade that was done makes the v1's unbelievable it seems!

What really happened to your presonus R65?

It started shutting off intermittently due to some components on the main board failing. I had 3 different R65 V1s that had similar issues.

@@HeightsLabOfficial I believe that's why they released R65V2 with a Class AB amplifier instead of Class D on the older R65.

@@vrsimha I thought so too, but the R65 V2 and R80 V2 actually use the board from the cheaper “iris” model, they have similar issues also and are equally un-serviceable.

@@HeightsLabOfficial another words all Presonus models Eris and R series seems to have same problem. Hence, I was thinking to get the Adam Audio T7V instead. .
