As you requested, Tim (but probably wasn't expecting): The color theory regarding Purple as a Bible cover color is interesting. Psychological studies have linked color to perceptions and meanings in people and how we humans respond to the colors we see around us at deep psychological levels. Established color theory when it comes to Bibles is thus very important if you intend to carry one in public. Red elicits feelings of power and authority and strength and charisma (personality trait akin to "popular" but much more expansive than that, not "charismatic" as in the Christian tradition by that name), but it also is connected to war and violence and aggression and bullying. On the other hand, Blue represents calmness, soothing, serenity, and peace, but also melancholy, sadness, even depression. Purple, as a combination of red and blue, manages to contain the positive qualities of both red and blue while minimizing or eliminating the negatives - Calm Authority, Soothing Power, Serene Strength, Charismatic Peace. This is why Purple has so often been regarded a royal color and used in symbols of high leadership. I also profoundly love how Jesus is clothed in a purple robe in John 19:2 before he is lead to his death, because in that moment he fully embodies all of the qualities that I just listed for Purple. This is why I almost always preach from a purple Bible.

Explains why so many politicians (here in the UK, at any rate) wear bizarre single-colour purple ties.

Very interesting! It seems that purple is becoming a very popular color lately, or is that just my imagination?

    • @jasonengel
      @jasonengel ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@guymontag349 Purple is certainly gaining in popularity. I think a decade ago no one would've bought one for fear of the perceived femininity of the color, but once certain Bible publishers started offering nice well-made dark/royal purple covers attitudes definitely started to shift.

Thomas Nelson has done a great job putting out a wide variety of excellent Bibles in the last several years. They seem to have editions for every taste. Thank you Tim

My Bible is the Thomas Nelson KJV Center Column with Apocrypha in Black Genuine Leather. As I am turning my life around I have been trying many of them out from many publishers, but that is the one I landed on. It just came out March 14th. It beat out the KJV Topaz Reference Edition, Black Calf Split Leather, which felt like lesser quality to me but more money. There was also some issues with it that stood out as craftsmanship blemishes. I know that there are considered higher quality/more expensive Bibles, but Thomas Nelson has won me over. I never realized how many differences and feature differences are to Bibles, your channel and Bible Buying Guide has pointed those out to me. I love what I chose, the only thing I don't do is sleep with it.

I picked up the paragraph one in genuine leather and couldn’t be more pleased with it. Once again Thomas Nelson delivers a great KJV with quality way beyond the price point. Can’t see either my Clarion or NCPB getting much reading time when there’s a paragraph KJV with 2K Denmark typesetting on hand.

Thank you for featuring these great new Bibles from TN. I’m so excited about that paragraphed KJV especially. I’ve never been able to read the KJV at length, despite very much wanting to, because I just can’t enjoy verse by verse formats. So I’m definitely buying myself one!
I’d love to see TN come out with more paragraphed KJVs-single column editions, Apocrypha editions, and premiums!

I had the KJV with Apocrypha (genuine leather) for my Birthday very recently and I love it. It's a great KJV Bible. Because of this video, I also ordered the purple leathersoft of the Paragraph KJV, not only because the purple leathersoft looks very nice, but also because it's in paragraph-format, which I personally prefer over verse-by-verse format when reading and there's not many KJV's that are like that (as you mentioned); I also like the fact that it's structured like a Schuyler Quentel (by being in paragraphs and also having the notes and references at the bottom of the page, rather than in the centre-column, like the KJV Apocrypha).

  • @guymontag349

Thomas Nelson continues to knock it out of the park, Tim. I agree with you about their Leathersoft offerings. I have their new NKJV verse by verse, end of verse reference Bible in blue leathersoft. It is unbelievable how wonderful it feels in your hand. I only wish that it had been available in that beautiful purple!

I have a Nelson 3005 that was given to me after completing Sunday school Iv had it for over 30 years. It’s been through as much as I have over the years though years of addiction and recovery and beyond it’s been to a few different states and many road trips it’s been great for my everyday life and has helped guide me through the hardest times I’ve been through and the best parts of my life also it was there when my son and daughter were born and there when my father and grandfather died it’s been something that has become a part of me.. it’s seen better days though and is not perfect it’s weather damaged and crinkled in some places.. it’s probably time for a new one I just can’t afford it now and it’s gonna be hard to find one that resonates with me the way my old Nelson has.. i like that these new bibles have the apocrypha in them it give you a little bit better outlook on biblical history.. hopefully I can come up with some money and find something that I like..

I really enjoy the KJV translation. It was the primary translation we used when I was growing up, and even when I first started preaching. One thing that I think was nice with it was the amount of vs by vs copies that were available. I have since grown very fond of the CSB, but finding a vs by vs in a local book store has been almost impossible. While I do enjoy the paragraph form for every day reading, I prefer vs by vs when I am preaching. I wish other publishers would make some more options for vs by vs.

Yes, Thomas Nelson's leathersoft is REALLY soft and nice....I just wish they wouldn't pair it with a paper liner so often. They start cracking in just a few weeks if you read every day :(

Very cool Bibles. It's disappointing that they both contain the dedication to the king and yet leave out the trabslators' note to the reader -- if they've only space to include one then the latter seems to have more practical use for readers nowadays. Do you know of any KJVs that include the translators' note?
Love seeing another Bible with Apocrypha -- the Apocrypha helps give so much context for the NT!

The original 1611 KJV with the apocrypha had cross references to the 66 books, and the KJV, RSV, NRSV, and ESV bibles with apocrypha that I own, they all have cross references to the 66 books. It’s very disappointing that this one doesn’t have cross references to the 66 books.

As much as I love the KJV, none of those are my "Mr Right". They're both beautiful of course!❤
I like the soft cover purple KJV I'm currently reading. I bought it at booksamillion. It's similar in color and texture to the purple one you're reviewing and it's almost perfect. It's a simple verse by verse Bible like I like with Jesus words in red. It has a large print(10) and it's by Tyndale House Publishers. It's my newest one and I love it! Only thing is it's not leather and it's not an 8.5x5 size. Is there such a thing as a perfect Bible?🤔
I'll continue to hope and wait for that purple leather KJV with a 10-11 point font and an 8.5x5 cover size, with Jesus letters in red.
Tim, I know when it's made you will review it! 😃👍
