- The Late Show with David Letterman featured the Marine Chamber Orchestra performing Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" and The Marines' Hymn during its show on Dec. 10, 2012. Colonel Michael J. Colburn conducted the orchestra in both pieces, filmed in-studio at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.

I wish they had a better mix setup 🙁. They have I individual mics for each of the string players that are a little to loud in the mix and then the winds when they stand up aren’t playing into the mics so you can’t hear them.

Imagine being a pro classically trained musician who spent years and years along with hundreds of thousands of dollars on your musical education... and still being forced to play the curse of a song that is sleigh ride 😭

Hey I'm a conservatory trained professional orchestral musician and Sleigh Ride is a pretty darn close to perfectly crafted piece of music. There's a lot worse.
Imagine being so negative that you're unable to appreciate it for what it is.
Leroy Anderson was a master of the short-form descriptive piece just as John Philip Sousa was a master of march-form composition. It still takes fine musicianship to play these well and as Sousa used to say: "I'd rather be the composer of an inspired march than that of a manufactured symphony." BTW....he also died a millionaire! 😃
