  • This is the first song with the preenFM2. It's a 14 voice 4-part multitimbral polyphonic DIY FM generator with 28 FM algorithms from 3 to 6 operators, 7 default and 6 user waveforms, filter, arpeggiator, etc.
I used for the recording the following FX chain:
preenFM2 - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated
The signal went through a small Behringer mixer into the pc for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track.
Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)

Great sounding piece of gear at a great price. You can get one for around 200 Dollars.

Hi I have just bought one of these on the back of this video, do you know where I can get these ambient patches from? Maybe they come with it? Hasn’t been delivered yet.
Really enjoying the ambient synth shoot out series, you are getting some amazing sounds out of all the different synths!
Just not sure how much money it will cost me in the end 😂 😂

Hi! Many thanks for the nice comment :-)
Most of the sounds I used are based on sound patches from DX7 sysex files. One can copy up to 128 of them to the internal USB stick and use it as a starting point. Usually I added a Lowpass Filter to the sound patch that can be tweak in realtime with the knobs. In my case I randomly picked sysex files from the huge number of available sysex and listen through to find the nice sounding patches.
Check out also the following websiter. It generates DX7 sysex files based on AI.

This is, what I will try out sometimes soon

Is that going through a reverb effect or is this all straight out of the synth?

It is going through a delay pedal (Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe) and a reverb pedal (GFI System Specular Reverb 2)

What patches did you use, if you remember

    • @christianssonicspaces494

I think at least some patches were originally from the aegix.syx found in one of the DX libraries. I usually added the PreenFM filter for recording but didn't save the patch separately.
