Red velvet cake didn't originally have red food coloring in it! Cocoa powder didn't used to always be alkalized (have some alkaline/base substance added to it). And chocolate has some of the same compounds that are in red cabbage that cause cabbage to go red when they get acidic (and blue/green/gray when they get alkaline). All of which means: when you use cocoa powder that hasn't been messed with and dump acidic vinegar on it, it turns red! Tart cocoa powder is out of fashion so all the cocoa powder you can buy now is alkalized, so when you make a kinda sour chocolate cake, you have to help its coloring along a little (a lot) with 3 cups (4 tablespoons) of red food dye.

Katie I have a really neat idea I would love to offer you When you do your valentine high top soap why don’t you place a long heart shaped long stick of soap on the top of your soap in the middle then do your high top over it so when it’s cut there is a heart in the middle of the high top of that makes sense?. Just adds a extra touch they have molds for the long heart shaped tube soap on eBay. Would look amazing.

You should make a brunch type soap. Maple and coffee scented perhaps, and have a cute little brown melt-and-pour drizzle like syrup. Add coffee grounds to boost the scent and act as a natural exfoliator. Maybe egg or waffle embeds? I'd buy that for sure.

So its nice to watch these videos, since its the closest I'll probably get to actually doing it. Plus, you and your husband are just so charming! Lye is also called caustic soda. I bought that and olive oil in the pound shop (dollar store) you could try using food colour and fragrance and a plastic tub for mould. Doesn't have to cost a fortune. X

But as time has gone on and food coloring is more readily available I guess we're just expecting it to be bright RED which you can only really get with lots of food coloring.
You should make a “Shades of Red” soap. Starting from the darkest red to like a mid red. Then idk for the top... maybe a red icing? Something in a nice sexy red ❤️♥️

Why the over use of exclaimation points? If you had to speak like that. Someone decided to do this about flavored water, I think they were being paid to do it. So I decided to record what they wrote and put the exclaimations in every sentence. Sometimes there were 3 or 4 after a sentence. So I had to do it overly done. You talk about silly. It is like you are actually shouting at people and eaten too much sugar and drank a lot of coffee, maybe a hit of cocaine on the side as well.
Have you already decided on your Easter soap? Cuz I have a cute idea. You’d make a couple of loooong embeds that are like orange teardrops (to make carrots) and put them in a brown soap. Then when you cut it it will look like roots in dirt!

My mum made velvet cake in different colors one year, a purple one for Easter, green for St Patrick's Day. It was pretty nuts but really yum. From experience I'd vote for the boiled milk icing rather than the cream cheese frosting. Your soap is so beautiful!
Red velvet used to be called Waldorf Astoria red cake when I was a kid. My aunt would have one made for me when i would visit. The vinegar and buttermilk act in conjunction with baking soda to cause it rise instead of using baking powder. It takes two bottles of food color. I make them for my son's birthday every year and he's 39 now. Homemade is much better than store bought😀
Red velvet cake , velvet being from almond flour or cocoa that soften the flour and make a finer texture hence “velvet”. The color funny enough was because of a Texas business man, (being a Native Texan myself I love this fact:)), he wanted to sell more food coloring (John A. Adams- Adams Extract Company) and red food dye in cakes would help also Like you said a lot is used to color the natural cocoa brown to red. Also the movie “Steel Magnolias” helped to bring it once again into the spotlight.

It was originally a much more rust red naturally ^^; (you can also use beets to color a red velvet cake)

I know this is a very late comment on this video, but seeing the red piping on top made me think of strawberries! What if you made either a strawberry rhubarb, or just strawberry pie soap? You could sprinkle some sea salt or glitter on top to represent seeds, and I think that some kind of basketweave pattern might REALLY set something like that off!

the red color in classic red velvet cake is actually a chemical reaction between the vinegar and alkaline cocoa! but when it was made into cake mixes, people started going a little gung-ho with the red dye to make it redder.

It was first made before the invention of Dutch process cocoa and the acidity of the leavening ingredients and the alkalinity of the cocoa would turn it red, like litmus paper in cake form. It was iced with ermine icing and copycat recipes popped up because of the popularity of Waldorfs recipe. With the invention of Dutch process the alkaline reaction is lost so people began to add red coloring to mimic the original. Cream Cheese icing came up during the end of the depression because butter was too precious to waste on icing.

I want to do this with my Vanilla Fusion soaps! Do brown on top and bottom then an ITPS with the brown accent mixed in. So I guess just chocolate cake instead of red velvet :) love your soaps, love your attitude, love your videos
My mom and I make red velvet cake with beets. She uses just beets and it's this beautiful kinda purpley brownish color. I like to use beets, carrots, and strawberries for a bit redder tint and a more unique flavor. (You can do it in equal portions or play with them; just make sure you puree them and use less liquid--how much depends on a lot--or you'll have beet chunks and runny cake middles! Ew! [Unless you're into that, then more power to you.])
I've been making red velvet cakes from scratch for years! It's my fav. My recipe only calls for 1 oz of red food coloring. Still a lot but less than 3 cups lol
I don't know if you are going to read this, but, the original recipe for the red velvet cake uses beet juice. It doesn't give it any flavour but it gives it that reddish color. I think it also gives it more humidity, I don't actually know the measuerment haha
You should make aprils fools soaps, where the scent doesn't match the aesthetic look of the soap at all!

You should attempt a lime margarita scented soap! I can’t find a margarita soap that I like, it’s all either not scented enough or has a nasty texture. I’d love to see your take on it!

Do a citrus soap like lemon orange and lime have like lemon and orange somewhat like the greens in a frozen margarita and buy a green drop swirl.

I want to do this with my Vanilla Fusion soaps! Do brown on top and bottom then an ITPS with the brown accent mixed in. So I guess just chocolate cake instead of red velvet :) love your soaps, love your attitude, love your videos
White melt and pour curls would be good on the top of this, because it would look like white chocolate curls.
My mom and I make red velvet cake with beets. She uses just beets and it's this beautiful kinda purpley brownish color. I like to use beets, carrots, and strawberries for a bit redder tint and a more unique flavor. (You can do it in equal portions or play with them; just make sure you puree them and use less liquid--how much depends on a lot--or you'll have beet chunks and runny cake middles! Ew! [Unless you're into that, then more power to you.])

I've been making red velvet cakes from scratch for years! It's my fav. My recipe only calls for 1 oz of red food coloring. Still a lot but less than 3 cups lol

I don't know if you are going to read this, but, the original recipe for the red velvet cake uses beet juice. It doesn't give it any flavour but it gives it that reddish color. I think it also gives it more humidity, I don't actually know the measuerment haha
