Blackie, for me, you were an acquired taste. The more I listened to you, the more I liked you. Your mindset does not conform to what others say, and that can be very refreshing. Thank you, sir. Btw, I LOVE my Grayl.

Got a Grayl Geopress a while back. Like it so much that I got one, plus extra filters, for each family member. Pricey, but now we all have a reliable way to purify water in our go-bags.

Thank you. After you being the 100th reviewer that talks about this product you are the only one that made it make sense to get. I ended up getting one, and it has become my go-to bottle. It is now my EDC and I use it at home. I hated the fact that I have some of the best hard water coming from my pipes, but I never trusted it and have been drinking out of those plastic water bottles. I used to use a water cooler but it limited me when I was out. This system work fast, easy, and it just works. Wash it out every morning when I make coffee and I am set for another day of use before my first cup of coffee. No more using plastic water bottles or the water cooler. FYI water from bottles tends to be soft water, which is not the best. Hard water generally has more materials and is better for you.

The BEST $9.98 (got it on sale at Amazon) I ever spent was for my Stanley Cook Set. There are more uses and mods for that set than any outdoor gear I've ever seen. If you front already have one, GO GET YOURS , it goes on sale often but even at $14.98, its a bargain. Thanks Blackie for finding yet another great use for the Stanley.

I wish our friends over at SeaToSummit would take it to the level of perfection and do with their mug what they did with their kettle. Take the folding mug and put an anodized aluminum bottom on it. Kettles are often times too much when all you want to do is heat water for coffee or grits / oatmeal / minute rice. That mug would either lay at the bottom of the bottle bag folded or extend it and let it hug the Grayle or any comparable bottle. You'd have your purficication / water bottle all in one and your mug / cook pot all in one. Two items, all done.

That Stanley Pot also fits into the Ozark Trail stainless cup with folding handles that WalMart sells for $5. As a bonus, the Stanley Lid also fits the OzT Cup perfectly.Just in case you want a cup of coffee with your breakfast oatmeal.

Subbed! Finally a TH-camr, outdoors channel person using a canteen cup. AND a Southerner. So happy to have found you, Sir. Now if I find that you are in Alaska to teach me how to survive on a frozen tundra upon which I am Highly unlikely to find myself, I will be disappointed. I am a Southeastern woodlands kind of girl, and I like it that way. I am a "Be Prepared" kind of person and have always been more comfortable in the country. But I live on a small budget. I spent 8 years in the Army in the 1990's and still have some good serviceable equipment. Like my handy old canteen cup and stove. I bought a Nagalene canteen for mine as well, but I would like to find a lid and pouch to complete the set-up. Now I'm off to watch a bunch of your videos

I've got a ultralight grayl; bit thinner so didn't work with that cup as well ( I wrapped a shemag around it for a little cook area) and though good I regret not getting the full size one for a few things:
main one being the little lid sure can put a custom lid with a straw down to bottom and when in back pack like your carrying can use it like a camelback.
and (marinex confirmed this week) the full size one can fit in tuna cans inside of it; so can use it for bit of storage / compression for a GHB etc.

You have one of the new ones. Mine is an antique compared to yours. It's one of the old flat top ones they 1st came out with. It came with the Green ,Trail filter and I got a couple of the Orange ,Travel , Purifier units. Never did get one of the Blue Tap water filters. As time passed with the Grayl and it weighing 16 ounces I went looking for something lighter. I found the Katadyn Be Free water filter for camping and the higher amount of water needed. Plus I wanted to get my packs base weight in the 6 to 7 pound area to make my cardiologist happy.
With any water filter or Purifier I have the really nasty ( Swamp ) water is pre filtered with a 1 micron 4' x 8' Singed Polyester Felt filter bag PESP35 size 3 from Amazon.
The Grayl goes with me on DAY HIKES since less water is needed. Even in Florida's 100% humidity and most of the years triple digit heat indexes.

Found an alternative as a carrier for this set. I have one of Orca Tactical's H2O Molle Bottle Carriers, and tried it - no go! But, the pouch had a lower zippered compartment, so I removed the separator between the main and lower, hey Presto! It now holds the Grayl in the Stanley in a DOZ 20 oz. Cup, with the Stanley wrapped in foil shaped to fit that eliminates a slight rattle nd will keep the cup cleaner, plus one of those long plastic spoons. As a bonus, I can remove the Grayl for drinking using the upper zipper and remove the cup for use by using the lower one. Lids for both the Stanley and DZO fit under an elastic band in what used to be the bottom compartment, and a generous outer pocket holds an Esbit folding stove, fuel tabs, a folded foil windscreen, Mini Bic, the Stanley handle, a fork and extra spoon, and leaves room for a plastic bag with coffee, tea, soup mix, and whatever. The Carrier comes with a padded shoulder strap, Molle attachment webbing, a carrying handle on top, and has very durable fabric and YKK zippers.

I carry the Stanly cook cup w/lid, two Ozark stainless cup with folding handles, Stanly 21oz stainless water bottle, coffee filters, three cotton bandanas, and a spoon and fork in a pathfinder bottle bag. They stack up nice. Then you have a pouch for spices, fire kit, and bo bo kit. I also carry a grail in another pack with food and shelter, cordage, small axe. knife on the belt. about 15 lbs total. Great for a day hike ready for overnight if needed.

I don’t have the water filter, yet, but have been running a similar system. A GSI SS (or $5 WM knockoff) cup will fit on the bottom of the Stanley. I place the handle vertical with the hooks underneath. I actually have the tapered 32 oz SS Nalgene bottle that fits the Stanley. All in cordura water bottle carrier. I will be contacting Randy for filter and carrier for my second ‘canteen’ as I live in a similar climate. Keep the vids coming. Great viewing during self-isolation.

Blackie .. you can also add the 25 oz pathfinder cup and lid to the bottom of the Stanley cup .. orca makes a great water carrier with a little xtra capacity , that set up with the canteen cook set makes for one heck of a do all set .. I gotta get myself a grayl on order... we have the same summers here as you do .. my best guessing were somewhere around 125 miles. Apart .. people that has never experienced a Deep South summer just doesn’t really know .. 100 degrees and high humidity.. will drop a man to the ground in a short time . The orca carrier is insulated and will help keep the water cool longer .. but it isn’t cool like a leather carrier is

Gday Blackie from down under, I own a Grayl its an awesome product. I recently purchased a Pathfinder 32 oz ss bottle cook set and found that the Grayl fits well into the Pathfinder nesting cup/ wood burner set up and in turn into the 2nd gen Pathfinder pouch with a little room to spare. I'm not sure if that is the same type of pouch you're talking about or not, that's how I've set mine up and the ss bottle goes into one of the front pockets of my med alice pack.

  • @itywhat6499

I haven't read all the comments so if someone else suggests this just disregard it. O have the Stanley cup and use it all the time. But I don't always use the lid. I just store it in the bottom of my carrier. So to keep the handle out of the way when I store it I took it off and put it back on upside down so the handle folds down and out of the way. It also fits in my carrier attached so I don't lose it. Try it that way and see if it works for you.

I also modified my Stanley cooker by drilling 2 holes perpendicular to the flip out bail so that it accept an overhead hanging system. I use a copper colored metal clothes hanger cut to length for this. It comes right off and slide down beside the cup. I too also replaced the plastic lid handle, I used a small carabiner for my replacement as I already had one on hand.

A great idea that you have there Blackie but I do have to bring up one concern. If you are using the outer part of the Grayl to scoop up dirty water and then put that bottle back into the Stanley cup you'd be cross contaminating the Stanley with whatever may be in the dirty water. Of course this isn't an issue if you'll be bringing whatever you're cooking to a boiling temp of 212°F but not everyone does. Sometimes, they're just warming something up and that could contaminate their food and the next thing you know, you got a WHOLE lotta' running to do!
Just a thought brother. Maybe there is some sort of barrier that could be placed between the two surfaces?

I did a video about a week ago discussing different water filters and how they reduce heavy metals and truly remove chemicals in the water you're filtering. A very often overlooked requirement. Great video and new sub! I do this stuff with limited mobility from spinal cord injury. I will only use Survivor brand filters and I'm looking at purchasing a Grayl. Sawyer's don't remove the chemicals and heavy metals.

I like the idea of a grayl water filter but it’s to expensive for what you get. What is it 24 Oz with a life span of 40 or 50 gallons? I think a Sawyer squeeze is the better buy.

I hang my Sawyer bag with a hose so it gravity fills a container there's a you tube video about it.

@Predbeau101 ya but I don't travel out of the country and use my filters for backpacking the mountains here where we don't have viruses and heavy metals just nice clear water to filter. Grayl is needed if you are going to be in areas that can be contaminated. Good point.

why do you have to wait two hours to drink the hot water...just put it in the canteen once you have purified the water and put it in the cold lake, river of stream it will cool off much quicker. Just make sure you have tied the canteen to a good strong chord you know like the paracords.

we did but since the summer temps are around 100 the lakes are not cold they are in the 80's in the shallows so it took quite a while before the water seems cool

Anyone tried to nest a GSI bottle cup with their Grayl? The Stanley cook set dimension are spec at 4.3x4x5.8 and the GSI 24oz is spec at 4.1x4.1x4.4.

I bought the pathfinder stainless steel bottle cook set w bag a while back and my grayl geopress replaces the bottle and fits in the cup with the wood stove thingy in bag with enough room for a trangia alcohol stove to fit on top too.

Sorry, it's too small an amount of water for the size. You can use full size normal water containers and attach a very small filter to them. That way, you have "old school" plus the addition of a small, inexpensive filter that will last basically forever to go along with it. Think about it in terms of the total amount of water you can carry at a time. Yes you can filter quickly with the Grayl, but you can only carry about one and a half canteen-fulls instead of two and it takes up as much space as two full canteens.

where i live you can rarely walk 30 minutes without crossing a water source..i carried 2 full often cause one was on cool down while the other was used with this system i have both at the ready in less than 5 min..a pretty big improvement for my kit
