    The main problem this season, as mentioned, has been injuries and bad fixtures. Missing Llorente, Struijk, Kock, Ayling and Bamford all at the same time is fatal with such a small squad. Leeds will be fine this season as long as Llorente, Phillips and Raphinha stay fit

    • @AdityaT03
      @AdityaT03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the plan has always been that we see out this season because inevitably clubs are going to come knocking for Raphinha, Philips, and who knows maybe even James. Obviously we would like to keep all of them but realistically we should think of the clubs future. We can sell these big player for big money. Like Rapha and Philips alone could fetch us upwards of 150 mil. If we make smart investments we could even attempt to pick up van de Beek for Philips if he does leave, we can attempt to get underrated yet quality wingers in for Rapha. I think the plan is see out this seaosn and then spending splurge next seaosn on the back of big sales.
      Just my thoughts.

    Two big differences between this and last season. Last seasons 50/60 goal difference, is close enough to 50/50. This season it's 7/14. In fairness, 8 of the 14 were against expensive teams. So we are still at 6/6 for the other games. The two differences are the personnel. I'm all for man to man marking, but there has to be communication. M to M does not mean get dragged all over the park. You can hand-off your player and maintain the shape. But this requires very good communication. The second problem I see, is tiredness. There seems to be a general lethargy in the team. Last year, you knew someone would make a recovery run. Not so much this year.

      @@lewisgilfillan8679 You'll stay up comfortably if heads don't drop and the players keep faith in Bielsa and their way of playing. Youse had tough fixtures and injuries to key players. A club like Leeds (as it stands now) just isn't going to have a quality replacement that can do what Phillips can just sitting on the bench, but your build-up just isn't that good without him. And there's more examples of the same effect, granted at smaller magnitude. The only thing I'd worry about is the team doesn't look as full of energy as they did last season. Not sure what the reason for that is as I don't watch Leeds for the full 90 each week. Could be the alleged Bielsa burn-out, second season syndrome, or managerial instruction (sort of like Klopp went from helter skelter pressing to a more restrained mid-block in his second season). Still, there's deffo 3 teams worse than Leeds and, frankly, Leeds are always going to get enough wins when they go hard at teams.

    Interesting thing is Firpo made his name as a left wingback, but Barcelona bought him as a left back and now Leeds have fallen into the same trap, he needs to go to a team that will play him as a left wingback. Bielsa system just drains the players, Klopp used to be the same way but seems to have learned his lesson, he is a lot more laid back now, chooses his spots in games when it comes to high press, or chooses games like city where really goes for it, he has evolved his teams to be more possession based so he can cut back on pressing too. Players know that playing in those kinds of high intensity teams for a long time will lead to their bodies breaking down faster, so they bail on the first chance they get. It's never been said or even implied but I think that did contribute to Lewandowski leaving Dortmund, he saw players struggling with injuries after couple years with the team, especially older ones.

    Leeds can't buy success like Man City, Liverpool, Scum and Chelsea, and Bielsa doesn't want to manage those types of club anyway, he'd rather earn it. They had 16 years of mismanagement that decimated the clubs infrastructure, so it's going to be a few years of careful planning to restore the club to its former glory. They have very good owners who know how to run a football club and a manager who likes to entertain. They'll be fine.

  • @DonHolborne22
    @DonHolborne22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest problem is that Leeds don’t have a nr 9 who is playable in the box. Playmaker often don’t find the 9 to pass to. Bamford is thin and easily neutralised, not a good header, seldom first to meet crosses. Bielsa tactic deserves a bit more aggressive player in the box, don’t have to be Kane or Ronaldo, a Chriss Wood( Burnley) type would do.
    Bielsa dose not need big stars, he needs players who understand his philosophy after that he’ll make them big stars.

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dunno, he strikes me as a manager that's perfect for you in the Prem, but his playing style doesn't deliver consistent enough results to get promoted safely. I agree you'll stay up and the issue is essentially that you've played some tough opposition and are/were missing players who are absolutely key to how you play and you couldn't hope to have a quality like for like replacement for sitting on the bench given where you are as a club at this point. Having one Phillips is already a bonus, no chance you can find, sign and pay a second one. It's actually more widespread a problem - some Leeds players may not be top quality according to people, but they're fantastic for the system and are complete outliers wrt particular things the play style requires; not easy to replace them either for this reason.

We have yet to put out the same side in two consecutive league games this season. Unless you've chosen to play Pep roulette you will suffer as well. The sides that go on runs have the luxury of fielding the same side week after week. If we can get our first team and bench fit then we will begin to climb the table.

      I mean the manager has one mode of playing. It's like he's done his tactics on FM and then just smashes the space bar for the whole season. He needs to have a plan B, it's ridiculous he came back to old Trafford and made the exact same mistakes and the result was unsurprisingly the same.

    Simple, it's because Leeds wanna play expansive football but they only have bang average players.
    Reminds me of Swansea, they play great possession football with average players when they were in EPL but couldn't sustain and eventually got relegated.

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Swansea were boring a lot of that time. Bielsa's Leeds aren't getting relegated, they'll always put together enough wins with that style and they'll entertain their fans and the neutrals along the way (once they get their first 11 back, it's silly to expect an average team quality-wise not to collapse losing several key players).

    I always see Bielsa get herald as some genius in football, but honestly, has he won something significant in recent memory? Sure he got Leeds promoted again, and has them playing great football, but what has he won? He's been a manager since the 90s and has really had a trophy ridden career. He's a decent manager, but defo not the genius people make him out to be.
