Yep Though Tarantino is really a fan of Brian de Palma. He once said in an interview years ago that he was "a fan of Philippine cinema". He cited filipino filmmakers like Gerardo de Leon, Cirio Santiago and Eddie Romero as his influences.

The OPMs during the 80's were actually good as they look up to english singers. The lyrics are rich and stylish. My best guess is that they probably were trying to target other foreign countries with their songs.
