"If you're searching the lines for a point, then you've probably missed it. There was never anything there in the first place". The most savage fourth-wall break I've ever heard in a song.
Well, I don't really think it's meant to be that way. The song seems to have a pretty clear line of logic, and it seems to be (especially in the context of the scene) about a relationship that won't work, having an overly optimistic output on it. Line 1 "A sight for sore eyes to the blind would be awful majestic, it would be the most beautiful thing that they ever had seen" refers to the beginning of the relationship. They haven't been in a better one, so when they see this person they think that they're perfect and exactly what they are looking for. Line 2, "It would cause such surprise it would make all of their minds electric, how could anyone tell them that some things are not what they seem?" is talking about when they're actually together. Of course, those with an outside perspective KNOW that what they're in, the relationship, is a bad one, but the can see that for the moment, they're so filled with joy at the start that they can't tell them that it's going to end poorly. Line 3 "In such disbelief I thought that I was asleep when I met you, my heart liquified and I sighed oh this must be a dream" refers to, again, when they meet, the whole thing seems dreamy and perfect and ideal but then Line 4 "If I forget to set the alarm and sleep on through the dawn don't remind me, I'd rather be dreaming of someone than living alone" comes and says that they'd rather stay in this "ignorance is bliss" early state of the relationship than confront the reality that the whole thing is just being idealized and isn't as good as it seems in the beginning. The 5th and final line, "if you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it, there was never anything there in the first place" refers to the fact that, in the end, as much as they may have searched for a way to justify the relationship and show that it is loving and IS good, in the end, true love was just never really there. It's really genius in the way it uses the metaphor of a blind person seeing something ugly as the first thing they see and thinking it's beautiful before coming to the true realization that it is not, but trying to justify that it was good, before accepting it. It's almost like the 5 stages of grief, in a way. Denial (line 1), Anger (line 2), bargaining (lines 3 and 4), depression (first half of line 5), acceptance (end of line 5). So it could be about more than just the relationship, and while it feels like that's what it's referring to metaphorically, the whole metaphor could extend to many different aspects of life.
This is seriously one of the best American Dad episodes ever. It shows Jeff as more than a stoner moron and for the first time as someone who is willing to do anything for true love. It was also cool to see Roger’s species and why he ended up on Earth.

all jokes aside this was a really well written episode more specifically really well written scene, Wax Fang's "Majestic" encapsulated exactly what jeff must've been feeling, the powerful and emotional guitar solo was filled with pain and sadness which went perfectly with the footage jeff was seeing and seeing jeff cry made the scene stand out. jeff saw how horribly he treated Hayley pairing that with the music made this better, the next time he did the test showing the positive side of his relationship was also great because that time they had wax fang's "the astronaut part 2" playing which had a more upbeat and inspiring tone again paring nicely to the positive footage. all around a great episode.
They should've kept Jeff in space for at least a season or two, with one or two episodes per season about his exploits in space. Sort of like the James Bond episodes they do with Stan.
Funny enough it was an episode between Steve and Snot that introduced me to Joe Satriani, specifically "Summer Song", a tune that gets used from time to time for radio ads in my area.

Ghastly Dragon 10 ya I saw this ep yesterday and since I’ve been listening to the song practically on repeat. It is like a spiritual leech that has locked me into this vibe. I love the vibe, I understand it, I completely resonate with it, I get. But it is almost hard to think at times for the lyrics and whistling keep popping into my head. Other songs have become less appealing. I’ve been hooked hard by a song this hard before and it’s almost a shame. Eventually I end up listening to it so much that I just burn out on it and never listen to it again.
I can't imagine whose idea it was to use this song here, or if maybe they wanted to use the song and built the scene around it, but either way.... GOD DAMN did they pick a good song. That is a fantastic voice.
It wasn't part of this episode specifically, but one really cool moment from the multiple-episode 'Jeff In Space' storyline, was in the sequence where Jeff + Sinbad 'first' get back to Earth [using the wormhole], when it's flicking through them as all the different images, if you pause it as JUST the right moment using either a DVR, Netflix, etc, for one split second they are actually the live-action Sinbad, and the real Jeff Fisher, Seth Mcfarlane's friend who looks like, dresses like, and supposedly acts just like the Jeff on the show, apart from voicing him
This is such a powerful episode. If we were told before it that Jeff would lead an episode in space and the story would take on a cinematic feeling many would think "Here comes the shark" this scene is the biggest highlight. A masterpiece of a song that tells the hard truth of what happens to many relationships once the early magic has faded. The song helps us feel Jeff's pain even more so but I don't think it's mentioned enough how it helps us relate to the emperor too. He is practically giddy at these lyrics because his heartbreak made him wage a war on love and majestic reflects his feelings perfectly. Not in any way hating on Family Guy here, but they did a whole show based on never getting an Emmy. American Dad should have gotten one for this and I can think of many times American Dad should have gotten an Emmy when Family Guy would have still missed out.
“In such disbelief I thought I was asleep when I met you My heart liquefied and I sighed Oh this must be a dream If I forget to set the alarm And sleep on through the dawn Don’t remind me I’d rather be dreaming of someone Than living alone” This part hits harder after experiencing and losing love
I love this whole scene bc it just hits so hard. but the end part of where his hat gets kicked off his head and falls down idk y but I love that like it's the end of Jeff or something

It wasn't part of this episode specifically, but one really cool moment from the multiple-episode 'Jeff In Space' storyline, was in the sequence where Jeff + Sinbad 'first' get back to Earth [using the wormhole], when it's flicking through them as all the different images, if you pause it as JUST the right moment using either a DVR, Netflix, etc, for one split second they are actually the live-action Sinbad, and the real Jeff Fisher, Seth Mcfarlane's friend who looks like, dresses like, and supposedly acts just like the Jeff on the show, apart from voicing him
Wax Fang is an amazing band! I was blown away and went straight to find out who this band was immediately after this episode.
"It would cause a surprise, it would make all of their minds electric."
- I love that line... Idk why AM I WEIRD??!
SpiderLover97 no u r weird for loving spiders
Reni yes
Well, you are! But in a good way
Incredible how well this nice song was included into the episode of American dad
One of my favorite episodes. The song absolutely rocks!
I swear usually when in a TV series they start singing, I change the channel, only on American Dad, I stay and listen willingly
Yes, this is *Majestic*
They should of had more Jeff in space episodes
These were the best episodes to watch week to week on tv
Best song from American Dad!
I thought it was an American Dad original when the episode aired then found out about Wax Fang.
Probably the best American Dad episode ever.
Damn remeber this song from when i was in a depression... its not a song its a feeling.
This is probably the best music video from the whole show
The song is an absolute banger and the animation really captures the vibe of the song
“In such disbelief
I thought I was asleep when I met you
My heart liquefied and I sighed
Oh this must be a dream
If I forget to set the alarm
And sleep on through the dawn
Don’t remind me
I’d rather be dreaming of someone
Than living alone”
This part hits harder after experiencing and losing love
These episodes were some of the best of seth MacFarlane writing wise. And this episode and scene was unforgetable and just hits so hard 😢
A very underrated banger
Man this song is awesome
Omg how have I never seen this episode or heard this song until now!.....
One of the best moments in the series.
The song is so enchanted to me.
Best episode of the series.
It's thanks to this one fucking episode that I am now addicted to Fax Fang.
Cannot get enough of this song :p
At the beggining, it looks like the smoke puffs out of the summoner's hover chair are syncing with the piano keys.
I saw this when I was a little kid, it made me cry and literally inspired my love for music lmao
The full episode is season 8 episode 18 btw
After all these years i still listen to wax fangs. Thank you Mr. Macfarlane
I love this song
Wax Fang is the fucking best!
Not really. Nobody who liked your comment even knew who they were....
Fun fact, this guy is the BBEG in my dnd campaign
An evil bard who is so desperate to be heard he falls into the powerthirsty trap of a lich
There was never anything there in the first place... real asf man
Best episode in the series imo
Can’t wait to show this to my kids one day
Guess you could say this is Majestic XD
I love this whole scene bc it just hits so hard. but the end part of where his hat gets kicked off his head and falls down idk y but I love that like it's the end of Jeff or something
I've watched this clip like 20 times and just noticed the summoner had legs.🤣🤣
