I'm hoping to visit there soon again I've always enjoyed the Rio I remember the shows in the sky they were very enjoyable I definitely hope something like that returns. I like the fact that it's off the strip and it's more my speed it's definitely a place that I really enjoy .
I sure hope the Mardi Gras Show in The Sky will be brought back! I think that show was the actual essence of the Rio resort and a very important part of it. Regarding the buffet, I think it's a mistake NOT to bring some form of it back. It doesn't have to be as big and diversified as the World Buffet was, but I think a buffet should be available in addition to the food hall and other restaurants. The Rio is a very large resort, which wouldn't really be complete without a buffet. All in all, I am glad to see all the positive changes happening at the Rio that are starting to bring visitors back. 😄
Great video and commentary. I used to go to Vegas all the time when I was a kid (with my family) and in my twenties/thirties. Haven't been there in a while, but would love visit again. I agree with you about the good old days. The show in the sky sounds really great, though. Hope they bring that back. Appreciate your feedback.
Thanks so much for your kind words :) and sharing your experience! Yeah I think we all want the show in the sky to come back, fingers crossed! Thanks for watching!
The resort is worth about $1billion...if they spend say $10 million on a tramway to the strip it would open up the stip to the Rio and the Rio to the strip - its only a short hop so if they did it they could really bring it back to life.
They used to have the shuttle service that went back and forth from the strip. Did they discontinue that free service? It's pick up spot kept changing, but it still took you there!
One of my friends who was there at the same time also requested an upgraded room. Had same issues with lack of warm/hot water. She got home and checked her account and they had billed her for both the cancelled room and the upgraded room. Apparently they didn't 'upgrade' her, they just gave her a second room. She's now fighting with them because they think she stayed in both rooms. There's a new report (I think second?) of an internal break in and theft of a room while guests were sleeping. This hotel is a complete mess...
I hope Rio will fix the issues and make it right for your friend. They definitely still have some work to do. The theft issue is the first thing they should tackle, you would think that should be easy to add a security guy to check everyone's room key. Thank for watching and sharing.
@@KeepingUpWithVegas They had a guard mid-week onwards. However it was pretty easy to get by if you really wanted. The break-ins really look like inside jobs. Someone using a master key and probably targeting guests they see on casino floor and follow back to room or look up room info. Not trying to start conspiracy theory but let's be honest, someone off the street isn't going to get into a locked room at night...
i use to work at the Rio under caesars entertainment not anymore sad to say I can only hope dreamscape will do right on this property Im not a big fan of the food court and i still think they should have tried to bring back the buffet so in a way i cant wait wait to see the new Rio
Yes we are all hopeful that Dreamscape will bring Rio back and make it great again! Sad about the loss of the buffet too....thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts :)
the best part of Rio in its heyday was the seafood buffet. as long as they refuse to bring that back, this version of Rio will never match what it once was.
@@KeepingUpWithVegas That's not the case. There are still plenty of buffets to be found in LV. The problem is that the prices have gone up significantly for most of them, especially those on the Strip!
@@noname4u2see You are probably right about people want more upscale buffets, but I think Palms lobster buffet is a good example of how to do a successful buffet that is value based but not super upscale.
I am a bit shocked, I thought they were tearing the Rio down for a baseball stadium. I haven’t visited the Rio in years because the last time I was there, it appeared to be in its last leg. I have great memories here. Never forget the first time my husband surprised me with a suite upgrade. It was amazing. The buffet, then was great, not sure what it is now. But considering I do not do many buffets, the rio came recommended. I also love the Pho restaurant across from the buffet. We would take a cab over to the Rio on our last day in Vegas just to grab lunch there. Did they upgrade the pools? Last I was there, they were filthy!
Yeah Rio was in bad shape for a long while, it's better now but still work in progress. The swimming pool is renovated and open now. Buffet is replaced by a new food hall, it's not bad. I am waiting to hear the news on the show in the sky come back. Once that's back, I will for sure be back!
I ate at Carnival World Buffet a few times before, it was all good for me. It looks like the same place has become a food court like dining area. The KJ Dim Sum across the hallway is the best dim sum in Vegas, I always return to it after I feel like trying a different dim sum.
@@KeepingUpWithVegas I hope they update it for football season. I am going in November on a Sunday but I get in early and the Seahawks game will start at 1:30. I'm hoping to find a nice spot nearby to watch the game before I can check in.
Just came back from 6 days at Rio. I was scheduled for 7 days and just couldn't take staying longer. Jack hammering week days going on in center of casino. No predictable running hot water in the rooms (I experienced this myself 5 of the 6 mornings and spoke with dozens others staying at hotel who said same). $30 up charge on the remodeled rooms and no hot water. As for the food court, meh. Philly cheesesteak was ok, nothing special. The ramen was ok, nothing special either. The root beer float at the hamburger place was good but the onion rings were so-so. I didn't try the chicken place but had one guest tell me he thought it was the best of the things he'd had there. I did get the wonton soup from the Chinese restaurant across from the food court, and promptly got sick. My guess is it was made that morning (hopefully) and possibly previous day(s). Dim sum there has always been hit and miss. Go when it's busy for best chance of fresh. I won't go back to Rio and think the hype I'm seeing in 'review' videos on TH-cam are more to post something rather than the reality we all know. Rio is old, tired, and fading away. It's far too expensive for what it offers. Why is it surprising there are reports of break ins. Two evenings I saw a security guard and another night a maid on the floor when they wouldn't usually be there. I'm not saying something was happening, it's just very very unusual.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry it didn't go so well, seems like they still have work to do to improve. Hope you at least got some comps for the issues you had. I think the food hall was ok but not special enough to draw people in, I am just glad to have some decent quick eats options there. I have heard of the break ins recently, saw a hotel room review on TH-cam mentioned Rio needs to beef up their security for their hotel guests as he saw stranger leaving pamphlet about outside bars in the hallway (I have similar experience at Luxor, which is not good). I am hoping they are aware of the issues and will fix them soon. Let's give Rio some time to make things right.
Yes, I remembered the sky show, it was great. I also remember the buffet, it was great. I hope they bring something back. They use to have live music on that floor as well. They should bring back something exciting besides the girls dancing on those small stages, good for the men but I never cared to watch them..
Why would I go there just to gamble when there are many other places there's no casinos offering something back to the players anymore, South Point has a good buffet and it's always packed
I was at Rio 2 years ago for a business trip...worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Filthy, run down, still had used soap in an unclean bathtub...and this was a suite. Disgusting.
Yeah I heard it was terrible before the new owner took over. I think we need to give more time for the new owner to renovate and I am hopeful it'll be a good property again.

Can't wait
Awesome, have a great time in Vegas!
Yes! Bring the show in the sky back! Can’t wait to see that! Thanks for all the updates. Looks like the new owner is good 👍🏻 Go Rio!
Fingers Crossed! Thanks for watching :)
Or at least once a day. Or weekends.
I was there when they had the Show In The Sky. It was such a high energy experience and I hope they bring it back. It was such fun.
Couldn't agree more! :)

I was always a fan of Rio because of the big rooms with floor to ceiling windows.
Yeah all suites! Looking forward to trying their new room :)
And their huge rooms!! I really love the suite's that face the strip, that are on the curved ends of the building!! 👍
Hope they bring back Show in the sky.
Yes! Fingers Crossed! Thanks for watching :)
Hopefully
Thanks for the indepth video. Will have to check it out next time I’m in Vegas.
Very welcome, thanks for watching :)
THEY NEED THE SHOW IN THE SKY AGAIN..
Agreed!

Thank you so much for your great review. Will be in Vegas 5/1 & this info is very helpful. The Rio looks like it's come back to life. ❤
Thank you and so glad you found it helpful :) Yeah Rio is slowly coming back. Have a great time in Vegas!
We need more themed casinos so maybe Rio will start the old new trend.
Yes! That'd be awesome :)
I remember when the mini golf was the seafood buffet and Smashburger was a Burger King.

Give more and you will recieve more. Good comps.
Not a big fan of food courts but love the idea of a Duck Donuts at the Rio shop area. Was very pretty.
Buffet was better :( Duck Donuts would fit right in! :) Thanks for watching!

yes, that buffet was insanely good. but vegas now is about "upscale" and buffets , no matter how good, don't fit.

Bring the SHOW IN THE SKY back ASAP!
Does anyone know if the pool is heated? Customer service did not know 😢
They have 2 heated pools based on info from 2022, I think that would remain the same in 2024. :)
Those screens in the sports book look dated. Will they upgrade to one of those new stadium screens?
Haven't heard about the update on Sports Book, will find out and report back!
