Hi Sarah... I am 66 and loving your sewing videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I haven't sewn in many years due to health issues and decided I needed to relearn a few techniques. Your videos are easy to learn from, and I sure APPRECIATE that you're a Momma doing these videos with a baby in your midst. I think it is very sweet to see your little one and to hear your interaction with your child as well. I am watching your videos on my new and first notebook?... lol! it's like a laptop computer but smaller. I am also still trying to figure out electronics as well, and I have got vision issues on screens, lol, so this is a bit of a learning curve for me, lol! I just want you to know that all your videos are very helpful and easy to follow! thank you for taking the time I know it takes to teach and make the videos. I am making a dress for my little 4 yr. Grand-D and I did come here seeking a video on how to connect a kind of stretchy T-shirt top that I cut to length for an upper bodice and then to attach that to a pre-smocked piece of fabric for one of my 7 grands. I am finding so much help here in relearning a lot of techniques, but I sure never expected to find the joy of you teaching smocking as well! I am very impressed!! blessing to you and your family! Linda Knelsen, British Columbia Canada July 2024 now, I have more learning to do ! lol! ❤
I agree with others, thank you for a straightforward, simple, clear, concise explanation and example of how to do pintucks, and for showing something no one else mentions - what the different needle sizes mean!
This is the first time I've watched your video, and I have to say, I loved it. You get right to the point, no hemhawing around. Give great understandable instructions. Keep up the good work. Your baby is precious. 💖
I've sewn double needle tucks on about 5 garments but I never knew about putting the threads on either side of the tension plate! Thank you so much!! This is so helpful
First, I subbed because you said, anywho ... you make this look so simple. I have a brother sewing machine, which I love, but it has a twin foot and all this other stuff. I don't know if I can divide the thread only on one side. This was a fabulous video, and your baby is adorable and your husband proud because he helped you. I'm currently watching past seasons of the great british sewing bee getting ready for their new 2023 season at the end of April, and somebody did pin tucks, Thanks for uploading.
I have double needles. I have tried everything so far without success, to make pintucks, but even if this fails too, it was worth watching just to hear that delightful accent. Will give this a try tomorrow.
Great video! I love your easy manner! I consider myself an advanced resist, but after taking g quite a break with sewing, I'm knocking myself back down a bit. But with your video's I'll be sewing with ease & skill soon again! Luck & Blessings to all!
Sarah,I love your tutorials. I am trying to put pintucks on my bodice of a Christening Gown. I have a 2.0. When I start to do my pintucks it is a mess. Do have any suggestions. I have threaded it correctly. Donna in Maryville TN
hey there, saw your other comment, but putting my two cents here too just in case it helps someone else :-) hmm sorry to hear that... and no, at least I haven't heard of people using stabilizer or anything. You can use cording/gimp to make them extra full, but they should perk up on their own. Make sure you are using the same thread all around (tops and bobbin), increase the tension on your top threads until they pop up.. swiss batiste should work just fine. what is the problem with them? laying flat? twisted?
Thanks so much for this straight to the point tutorial! I just can’t catch what you’re saying in the crucial bit about the bobbin thread tension/zig-zag..? Could you please explain in writing?
honest, no right or wrong answer here. If you want your thread to blend into your fabric, I'd try to match your fabric's fiber. I generally use dmc 50 wt thread (which yes, is the same thread that I sew my heirloom garments with). But a fun alternative would be a contrasting color/texture.
Sarah, you used a regular zigzag foot rather than a pintuck foot with your twin needle, correct? I don't have a pintuck foot so hoping that is a zigzag foot I saw!🤓👀😊💖
Sarah Classic Sewing Thank you very much for your quick response to my question. You are so busy, so I really appreciate you taking the time, and happy knowing that I can begin to make my pintucks now and don't have to wait to get a special presser foot. ❤️😊
Thanks so much. Just a regular straight stitch... length depends on your fabric/preference, but I would play around 2.0... you may like 1.8 better or 2.2.
Hello Sarah. I have a bernina 590 and using the #31 , 4 groove foot. I’m still trying to figure out the height of the pintuck. My tension is set to 5.0 . Do you think that is right?
Hey there, I'm not an expert of sewing machines, but just keep increasing the tension until your pintucks get some height to them. I want to say I use around an 8 for tension. And be careful that each thread is on one side of that tension release plate. Imperial batiste is fine to work on with these (but don't try hemstitching or anything like that). Hope that helps.
Lovely look. Can the pintucks be made larger with a 3 groove Pintuck foot and be pressed in one direction to make it look like folded pintucks? It seems the larger space between the needles also means larger needles which would be too large for Swiss batiste cotton and French sewing. My theory is that it if the tucks are larger, spaced further apart, and the bottom tension is increased, it may produce a tuck that can be pressed to one side. I am purchasing the 3 groove Pintuck foot to try. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. What I really would like is the spacing to be 4.0 with a needle size no larger than 80 but this doesn't seem to be available. Your thoughts? My purpose for all of this is for making adult luxury French sewn night gowns.
I use to do this a lot, but I got out of sewing for a while & now I'm starting up again & wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly! The only thing I'm not understanding here is why your not using the Pin Tuck pressure foot? It saves me from making a lot of markings on my fabric! I have newer machines & very old machines that I use & ive never done the Tucks with out the special foot! Otherwise my Pin Tucks come out completely flat, unless I'm using stretch fabric.
oh, you can definitely use one if you want, but it's not necessary... like you said, it helps with alignment, but you can get pintucks to stand up without them. I don't own that pressure foot, which is why I didn't use it.
#familyyoutubesewingvideos! I died! Lol. Absolutely love how sweet she is! I've never done these. I place aside my twin needle and just leave it there. To nervous to try it- but now I may! What boys garment do you think pintucks would look ok on? The York of a Johnny and add in smocking with baby blue floss design? Fabric probably light blue or white baby cord? Building ideas in the comment selection! Anywho- wonderful work as always!!
Pintucks are perfect for boy's garments. You could do them in a criss-cross pattern... or a straight series. They would look so handsome on yokes for bubbles or johnny. And yes, you could do some blue cording or even use blue thread. So many options :-) Thanks Maison. Hope you're feeling well -- excited for you :-D
1) Make sure you have one thread on each side of that plate like I mentioned in the video. If that's correct then, 2) Your tension is off... and tightening varies on your machine. Look in your manual for bobbin thread tension. Let me know if that helps. :-)
Sarah Classic Sewing thanks for the tips...i looked through my manual and can't find anything about adjusting the bobbin thread, only the upper thread, which I have tried and I still have the same problem.
I think it's normally a little screw on the side of the bobbin case. The idea is that if you tighten the screw down that holds this little metal piece over the thread, that metal piece will put more pressure on the thread, therefore increasing the tension as it comes out the bobbin case. I gotta imagine that's the issue since the bobbin thread needs more tension than the top thread in this case to sorta "cinch" the stitches together, which forces the tuck upward. I'm trying to think of another issue that you could be having, but I can't think of one... although I am no expert, just trying to share my limited knowledge :-) Maybe you have a local sewing store that you could take your machine to? Or better yet, they probably have a similar model that they could show you a demo. Hope that helps :-)

Thank you for a simple, straight to the point good video. Very helpful.
Your joyful ease gives me confidence to try new skills!

Of course, glad it was helpful :-) Thank you.
I am so glad I’ve found you! I’ve only seen this done with cording inside and that didn’t seem right.

Awesome video! Thank you from Australia. Love the help from Audrey xx
What’s a good sewing machine to start with

+Jeanne Marie just like riding a bike, right? Happy sewing 😙
Exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you so much! 🪡
Thank you!! You've simplified a process that used to be a PITA.
What tension should this be done at please?
Sarah,I love your tutorials. I am trying to put pintucks on my bodice of a Christening Gown. I have a 2.0. When I start to do my pintucks it is a mess. Do have any suggestions. I have threaded it correctly. Donna in Maryville TN

I have used stabilizer when doing pin tucks. Tear away does best but wash away is easiest.
Wait!!! What happened? Just the stitch created the tuck??? Zig zag? What was the stitch length? No pinning???
When doing hem pintucks, do you pintuck first and then sew side seams or vice versa?
hey there, I would do all your side seams and then do the tucks so they are continuous.
Thankyou. How to keep the pintuck straight when the cloth is wide and ling pintucks i use the foot too
Thanks so much for this straight to the point tutorial! I just can’t catch what you’re saying in the crucial bit about the bobbin thread tension/zig-zag..? Could you please explain in writing?
I did this today! So easy. Thank you.
i absolutely adore your videos. thanks for sharing such a wealth of information.
Thank you, thank you. I appreciate your kind feedback :-)
stunning thank you. How did you do the collar?
Thanks Amy. The collar is a row of entredeux and then lace. This garment is my next full-tutorial to be released.. hopefully this weekend. :-)
I learnt a lot from your video. Thank you.
Fantastic explanation!!!!! Subscribed and bell'd
awesome always wondered how to do these im just saving up to get a better machine
you can still get a twin needle & pintuck foot and play around with your current machine
What thread do you use for pintucks? The same you use for sewing the garment together? Thanks!

You make it sound so easy. Thanks now I want to try.
You should try, it's super easy :-) Thanks Carmen.
What a fabulous tutorial! Thank you so much x
Hi, new to sewing: when you sew the pintucks are you doing that on the right side of the fabric?
Welcome, and yes, on the right side of the fabric.
Lovely tutorial. Thank you
Sarah, you used a regular zigzag foot rather than a pintuck foot with your twin needle, correct? I don't have a pintuck foot so hoping that is a zigzag foot I saw!🤓👀😊💖
yeah a pintuck foot is on my list to get, but you can use a regular foot without issues :-)

Lovely baby! Very helpful video Thank you! Please can you tell me what stitch you select and what length? Thanks so much and have a lovely day!
Thanks so much. Just a regular straight stitch... length depends on your fabric/preference, but I would play around 2.0... you may like 1.8 better or 2.2.
Obrigada !!!não falo inglês mas só de assistir seu vídeo. Entendi como fazer .OBRIGADA!!!!👏
Gostaria muito de entender inglês!💕
I can't believe how many subs you have now!

I recognize that song in the begining. Whats the name?
hmm good question, something my brother played on the piano. sorry :-/
Brilliant thank you
when I tried this, I just ended up with 2 lines of parallel stitching instead of a tuck. any idea what I should do differently?
1) Make sure you have one thread on each side of that plate like I mentioned in the video. If that's correct then, 2) Your tension is off... and tightening varies on your machine. Look in your manual for bobbin thread tension. Let me know if that helps. :-)

Thank you Yahaya :-)
Thank you for that
