I agree with you Max . . . the guy is a total prat. It isn't everyday you get to see huge loads like that being moved around the country. An amazing thing to organize and carry out. Absolutely brilliant . . .
Takes a Scammell (unipower) to do the job. Me dad came from Wynn's to Watford. And I got known as a Watford taffy. Makes you proud to see the Trojan a work.
At least a year in advance. Most of the work involves highly detailed engineering and legal surveying, detailed engineering design for custom load handling jigs and certification of every road, bridge and what ever else lays in the possible paths of this move. It's a crazy amount of paper work, and legal beagle work between the movers engineering department and all local authorities. In extreme cases, entire new roads or bypass roads may have to be built months in advance. These moves cost millions of dollars to complete.
How do you get to 600tons gtw? The trailer and load are on 12 axles so a maximum of 12x16.5=198 tons. Trojan circa 48 tons, MAN circa 38 tons so about 290 tons maximum.
Hi I would love to have work on this casting at 600 tons melted steel to make true foundry 👨 man that’s what Sheffield is-all about thanks 🙏 Forgemasters
Worlds largest hydraulic press, there were 4 of these guiding sleeves for the guide columns, these castings were 330TE finished weight, in addition two 'T pieces' at 220 TE and a middle casting sandwiched between the two which I can't remember the weight of around 160 TE I think. All bolted together to create part of the the base section www.otto-fuchs.com/en/divisions/aerospace/asg-group-60k.html. We finish machined the T pieces and roughed out one of these guiding sleeves at DavyMarkham just up the road, unfortunately Davys went bust in 2018, we used to do sub contract machining for Forgemasters fairly regularly at one time. I might be wrong but I heard that one of the big reasons forgemasters got the job for these was because there was nowhere in Europe/Germany (where SMS are from who designed these) capable of casting to this weight
A GREAT VIDEO THOSE UNIPOWER UNITS ARE DEFINATELY UP TO THE JOB YOU DONT SEEM STRUGGLEING THAT MAN UNIT AT THE BACK THAT WAS A NICE LOOKING UNIT AND WHY IS JAY CHADBURN BEING NASTY IN HIS COMMENT NO ONE FORCED HIM TO WATCH IT ANYWAY I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT VIDEO KEEP ME POSTED WITH MORE OF EM
Fabtastic camera work, Tom! If you're employed by ALE, you're their best advert, If not, your talents are wasted-Maybe you should show them this a sa showreel! Works for me! (Alternatively, there's always freelance transport videos that you could sell to, oh, I dunno, the BBC etc? - just a thouight!)
Looking at the spec sheet for the Trojan 8870 it lists the standard weight as 48,000KG, with a design weight at 72,000KG. I can only assume that means the ballast is the 24,000KG difference. Which is a heck of a lot!

Without decent road and bridge building standards this would not be possible. Our Civil Engineers are the unsung heroes of these (excellent) videos.

Its amazing to watch these huge loads being moved safely around the country.
Takes a Scammell (unipower) to do the job. Me dad came from Wynn's to Watford. And I got known as a Watford taffy. Makes you proud to see the Trojan a work.
It would be good to see them load it onto the ship!
Yah, with one of their super giant modular cranes. ALE Mammoet can move anything.
Just curious to know how much planning does it take to move from point A to point B?
lots!!!

How many yards to the gallon do they manage??
What sort of thing would they keep in the container at the front?
Impressive stuff, but what is the casting meant to be?
It's a Thingymajig!!

Great vid, don’t know if you work for Ale or have any contacts there, but a vid on the unipower units would be interesting
Bread coverage, thanks
A 600-tonne casting of what? It sure looks nice all blue and pretty.

I am guessing a fulcrum bearing for a bascule bridge. Just an educated guess on what this massive 600 ton part is.

What is the weight in the ballast boxes on the tractors?

What is the casting Part of..?
