He was never afraid to be at the FRONT of the soldiers he commanded. Never once did he hang back when the vast majority of the soldiers risked their lives. You can say his plans killed many others, but he was always RIGHT there with him. You can’t hate him for that. I model my own leadership in the military after his example.

I used to be upset that Levi chose Armin over Erwin. Clearly, Erwin would've been the better choice (Sorry Armin but Erwin just dominates over you in many aspects). But after seeing this AMV, I realized that if Erwin was chosen, and he DID get to see his dream fulfilled, he would've been truly the devil. Standing on the graves of many soldiers that he commanded to lead him to his goal would've haunted his soul until he grew old. But by dying now, and never having his wish fulfilled, he remained a hero. Even in his final moments, he sacrificied his own goals. He remained a true leader, a true commander. He had done more than enough. He was a hero.
BUT IT STILL DAMN HURTS. RIP man

couldn't have said it better. If he lived while all the recruits and squads wiped out, he would've truly become the devil. But dying like that...he died a hero. A legend who the people now remember as their greatest commander. He selflessly sacrificed a lot, sent hundreds to their deaths but somewhere in his heart, a childish selfish dream was there. But the fact that he abandoned it made him a matyr.
I just wanted to see his reaction when they found the truth 😭😭😭

Back when aot just came out I rarely seen ppl who’s fav character was Erwin and he was so underrated but now he ranked as the number one most popular character in aot and I’m so proud of my commander 🥺

Trust me, I watched all seasons and I am reading the Manga, I can confirm to you that Armin was chosen just bc he is one of the 3 main characters, through all events that occured since Erwin's death, there is not even a single one that shows how Armin was the better choice, I mean ya Armine is smart, young and everything but he can't make orders on those decesive moments they fkin needed a leader that can make decisions and have experience in all those cruel crazy battles the survey corps took. Hopefully the Mangaka proves me I am wrong in the upcomming chapters :)

Erwin is my favorite character in the series I would say. Never could guess what the man was thinking until the end. And they way he led his soldiers was admirable. Because of him the scouts could keep moving forward. He was a good leader. I really liked how his character was written. He was selfish but his dreams were what kept him pushing forward till the end. Very well fleshed out character I would say.

Easily one of my favorite characters of all time. I almost never cry in real life but the ending of his story had me in tears, I rewatch it every now and then and it still hits me every time. I hate the fact he was not there for the rest of the story, it would've been so interesting to see what he would've done. But that being said, they handled his story arc absolutely perfectly and it shouldn't have ended in any other way. Damn man.. 2nd half of season 3 was some of the most epic shit ever.. Those episodes with Erwin coming to terms with himself and the situation, his speech, the charge, Levi going all out, Armin's sacrifice etc etc.. pffff I will never forget watching that for the first time.

Erwin is absolutely the core character of this anime, without him they fucked up the 4th season. We desperately looked for Erwin at the 4th season. We really miss you great commander, rest in peace. And we were really really disappointed no to see Arvin filled your place. Your team faces many struggling problems after your death but Arvin couldn't show any of his intelligent strategy. It was too sad. I really miss you Erwin. 🌹🌹🌹

Oh man. There's no shortage of amazing AoT/Erwin Smith AMVs, but this really stood out for me. Amazing, amazing work!!
This is Erwin's life flashing before his eye, as he dies. I LOVE the cinema reel at the beginning. His final question, and the slow fade to black, is heartbreaking, yet one of the few moments of peace in a life fraught with guilt/accusations.
Erwin is one of my favorite characters ever, and he has many inspiring qualities. But he's definitely not the flawless, altruistic commander than many casual viewers like to remember him as. And that's why he's so fascinating. You captured the core of his character so well.
Other things I loved:
1:24: Parallel hand symbolism. Erwin reaches out for his selfish dream, while Levi/the dying soldier reach out for humanity's progress.
1:40: the contrast in Erwin's stated intentions. For humanity's future, or for his own dream?
2:25 made me realize that the government's words might've sparked Erwin's post-coup guilty conscience.
