- Focusing on the themes of productivity, people management, and leadership; I discuss my key takeaways from the five books I read in August 2024. My goal is to read sixty books this year.
The books covered in today’s episode:
🤫Quiet Leadership by David Rock
Drive workplace performance by changing how we and our colleagues think. Coaching techniques to help others change their own thinking as opposed to telling them what to do.
🧻✒️Back of the Napkin by Dan Roam
How to think through problems visually and then use those same techniques for storytelling. A more humanistic take on Storytelling with Data.
💪Power to the Middle by Bill Schaninger, Bryan Hancock, Emily Field
From a cog in the machine to a critical enabler of success, the role of the middle manager has drastically changed in the modern world of knowledge work. During the pandemic expectations and opportunities for middle managers soared. How do we harness this power without burning out managers.
💥🧠The Breakthrough Years by Ellen Galinsky
How can we take a positive view of the adolescent years? What is happening in the brain? How can we be more supportive parents and a more supportive society for adolescents?
♀️💰We should all be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers
Change your thinking about money. Overthrow the patriarchy and systemic oppression by becoming a rich boss lady.
About Me:
Peter Dempsey has over two decades of experience working in Information Technology. He spent the first part of his career doing “real work” as an individual contributor. Peter moved into people management to solve business problems and to grow his career. He never imagined how this change would impact his own life and the lives of others. Peter began writing about leadership topics on LinkedIn and was amazed at how he was able to connect with a larger audience and how his thoughts on work and life resonated with a broader audience. He never thought a career in IT would touch individual lives, but that is exactly what he found through people management.
