      I remember watching Usagi/Serena eat some takoyaki and thinking she was was boiled potatoes with toothpicks 🐙 i believe I saw this on or the movies, the one about an astronomer and a woman from the moon. a takoyaki episode could be fun!

    I'm so glad you clarified the pork being allowed to be barely pink. I'm always paranoid about undercooked pork and even when the thermometer says it's over 140 I still think it's undercooked and like 30 extra seconds is all it takes to make it dry...makes me feel better 😂

      Yeah pork is no where as unsafe as it used to be since pigs aren't fed slop anymore but actual pig feed.

      @@yungwildnfree So pigs are not picky eaters and can be cannabalistic the people that raised them would take advantage of this by feeding the pigs what ever food leftovers they had including meat and vegetables that have gone bad this caused pork to be very unsafe unless you cooked it to a high enough temperature and caused pork to have a bad reputation. Since about the 1950's they started feeding pigs food developed specifically for them the same way you will see with cows and chickens this along with inspections of the meat has led to pork being a lot safer to eat.

    FYI the bread used for panko isn't traditionally baked, it's electrified between two electrodes, which is why it's so light and flakey

      Plenty of actual Japanese people simply use bread crumbs for panko, as "panko" quite literally translates to "bread crumbs". It is traditionally baked and shredded. You're thinking of corporate/factory/sometimes-restaurant types of panko. Please do your research before you spread false information.

    Im an ignorant nave when it comes to cooking but you simplify these dishes that even i believe i can do this and will attempt to do so to bring a different food into my family taste buds.

      You can buy panko bread crumbs. That works fine. I make this all the time. Raw cabbage isn't my favorite but it goes well together. You can use the back of your knife to tenderize the meat too if you don't have anything to bash it with. This is my favorite way to eat pork.

    I learned to make Tonkatsu after living in Japan for a few years, and it's become one of my family specialties. My only 'big' change is using garlic salt instead of regular salt when seasoning the pork cutlets, to add a bit more flavor.

    We discovered tonkatsu when we studied Japan in our homeschool world geography unit a couple years ago. I called it "Japanese Southern Food" because a deep fried pork chop is definitely something you'd find here in the South! We loved it so much when we made it for the unit study it became a regular meal in our rotation and we actually plan on having it again this weekend. :P

    I remember having a really bad day once and to make me feel better my girlfriend made me this with a porkchop over some Japanese curry she made with rice. It helped a lot and I now associate Tonkatsu with how much I love her

    This was one of the easy recipes in the game and I STILL have Cooking Mama, Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends, and the Cooking Mama Wii game. These games gave me a love for cooking as a teen!

    My dad taught me that if you cut diagonally to the meat - specifically, around 30-45° to the muscle fibers - you end with a much more tender cut.
    Works phenomenally for preparing venison and wild pork.

    Tonkatsu is my favorite meat to accompany japanese curry! Otherwise topped with tonkatsu sauce, japanese mayo and a bit of nori is an absolute classic and tonkatsu sandwich is something I've eaten a lot when in japan.

    Try chunking up the bread into bite sized pieces and nuking it in a food processor until it stops screaming. Either that or wait for it to stale before you grate it.

    Cooking mama is one of my favorite nostalgic game series! I had almost every game in the series, including the spin-offs (my favorite spin-offs were crafting mama and camping mama).
    If you wanna try more cooking mama recipes, you should try making those heart-shaped marshmallows or cooking mama cookies or rice crackers.

    Funny. I had a deep fried pork cutlet for lunch yesterday. It had been 2 years since I ate that dish. It was so big, I needed two (small)bowls of rice to finish the 2/3s of it. It cost me 9,800 won(roughly 7.50$) but it was worth it.

    Fresh Breadcrumbs... Salad Shooter or commercial grade equivalent with grater attachment. I'm pretty sure Kitchenaid makes an attachment for a stand mixer that'd make quick work of this task.

    I know this is from the game and I always appreciate making everything from scratch, but to make this recipe more approachable and easy (especially if you are intimidated with deep frying)... do yourself a favor and just buy the Panko Breadcrumbs and the Bulldog sauce, they are both very "authentic" and honestly hard to beat. It's like Heinz Ketchup... you could make your own ketchup but do you really need to?

    I think the highlighting of the use of fruit is related more to the cost of fruit there than anything, maybe a westerner version should similarly use ingredients that we consider premium and pair well with tonkatsu.
