They used to lower, with ropes, boxes of beer bottles and whole watermelons in baskets into the Bardawni - the best natural fridge in the world. The watermelons would crack under the gelid waters. And what a great mezze! A paradise!
I just told my daughter today the same thing. It was amazing, I wonder if they still do that now
I’m not shure it would be a good idea in our “modern” times.
The quality of the water and the lack of control with today’s levels of pollution might be a contraindication to bring it in direct contact with food…
@@telekhal Correct! In the old days, I wouldn’t have hesitated to fix my Arak drink with some pristine, icy water from the Bardawni. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s now polluted, like many water streams around the world.

I really miss Lebanon. I am in Los Angeles, originally from Iraq, and I lived long time ago in Lebanon for more than 7 years. I really miss Lebanon and all the lovely people of Lebanon.
I remember best two places for ice cream were Zahle and another one in the way to Al Koura but unfortunately I don't recall the name of that one.
