In this exclusive interview, Maria shares her journey from starting the Art of Four initiative in 2019 to establishing a thriving gallery that now features over 40 talented artists.
👩🏽‍🎨 About Maria M. Williams:
With over 13 years of event planning experience, Maria noticed the lack of opportunities for Black artists in San Antonio and took action. Her advocacy led to the creation of In The Eye of the Beholder in September 2021. Beyond her work at the gallery, Maria serves as San Antonio's district 2 art commissioner, continuing her commitment to uplifting the community.

Located on the east side near Fort Sam, In The Eye of the Beholder provides a unique platform for established, emerging, and aspiring artists from around the world. Each month, the gallery hosts new exhibitions, showcasing diverse mediums including visual art, digital media, dance, theatrics, literature, poetry, and fashion. Their mission is to celebrate and promote the rich expressions and experiences of Black creatives.
