    Here's the nerdy bit:
The transition from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system is often linked to the breath and can be explained by understanding the body's autonomic nervous system.
The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the "fight or flight" response, which prepares the body for action by increasing heart rate, dilating pupils, and releasing stress hormones like adrenaline.
On the other hand, the parasympathetic nervous system triggers the "rest and digest" response, promoting relaxation, slowing down the heart rate, and enhancing digestion.
The connection between breathing and this transition lies in the vagus nerve, a key component of the parasympathetic nervous system.
When you take slow, deep breaths, particularly focusing on extending the exhale phase, you stimulate the vagus nerve.
This triggers a relaxation response and signals to the body that it's safe to shift out of the fight-or-flight mode.
Deep breathing also slows down the heart rate and helps regulate blood pressure.
Essentially, the act of conscious, controlled breathing taps into the body's innate ability to regulate its autonomic nervous system, allowing you to move from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic state, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
Also getting out into nature massively helps this.
Give it a go and feel the instant relief ☺️
Your friendly neighborhood quadriplegic Ben 🤟
