In my last novel, the hero loses his entire family when they are accidentally transported across space and time. The rest of the story is an John Carter-esque adventure, but it's really about him rebuilding his life from nothing. Learning to live without his world and his family. I hope that came across as I intended it.

#8 - Twilight series vampires really needed to be hit with the nerf-bat. Way too OP. I know there is a lot wrong with the series, but this was the one thing I just couldn't overlook.

I am struggling to find a good genre to write. I'm someone whose indecisive, and honestly don't know how to stick to a particular idea. I need some advice, because I don't want to keep giving up.
For many, what you just described could be considered a weakness. I consider it a strength. Not pinning yourself to a single genre is a career choice for some writers, and there’s no shame in it. Don’t let anyone else (or a blog or a podcast) tell you any differently. Just keep writing, keep exploring and learn how to listen to your intuition-that’s the most important thing. It might take you longer to do. Just don’t let your indecisiveness stop you from finishing. Make yourself finish your stories no matter what. Then your options get more interesting.

I'm editing my crime novel just because that's the story that won't go away. I've also started a fantasy series. I prefer horror, fantasy and science fiction so hopefully I can stick to those genres after this first novel is finished. So write what won't go away, whatever the genre, is my advice

I've been working specifically on the surrounding cast and what they bring to the story recently, and it's been really interesting.
OPs aren't actually all that bad - as long as it's just their powers, really. Like, they can be overpowered when it comes to using magic, but magic doesn't solve everything. That sort of thing. So I think it's okay for them to be OP, just not OP in everything, especially if the fatal flaw is really significant, it can counter-balance it well.
Your usual advise of "do what everyone else is doing" kinds of rubs me the wrong way, but I try being open minded about it.
"Look at what the bestsellers are doing, and do that." I may not have written a novel, but I admire innovation too much to let this pass; why should I follow the footsteps of the bestsellers? I write to be original, not to shadow professionals in their field. Yes, I will need advice and tremendous amounts of information to get there, but I may be misunderstood, could you be clearer? Thank you.
Make a story that you enjoy writing about.
My current MC is seven years old. His love life sucks. :(

@@AuthorLevelUp Whew! My little brain was ping-ponging in my skull trying to figure out how to give a seven-year old a love life.
I mean little kids do get crushes of a sort. Itd be odd if a younger character had no thoughts about the opposite gender, like cooties or girls are gross etc

Similar situation here although I have had a few relationships but none long-term
I have a character who is a complete normie, but he gets thrust into dangerous situations. I'm not sure how to give him a distinct personality.
Think of how these situations would change him
