    Congratulations you two! Been watching the channel for a year and it's so cool to see your plane flying! And doing it as a father and son is an unforgettable experience for you both.

      Thanks, I've been flying the rans a little over 20 hours by myself. I just get a cross country endorsement from my instructor and go! Hoping to get my checkride this month! I went up with my instructor this week and passed all the maneuvers on 1st try!

    Congratulations gentlemen!!! Such a great accomplishment. It’s a pleasure watching your progress. I’ve taken several of your thoughts and tips to heart on my build as well, thank you. Your paint job looks fantastic as well!

    Congratulations on the first flight. I also put paint protection film on the leading edge of my 21’s wings, horizontal and vertical, stab, wing struts, gear, legs, and front cowl. I also ceramic coated the plane. The PPF is great, but it’s kind of a double edged sword. I protects the paint from impact and abrasion but it’s softer and the bugs actually stick to it and are harder to remove then on the painted surface.

      Thank you! I've been wiping it down after every flight and the bugs just come right off. I haven't noticed any sticking to the expel.

      Awesome, thank you! Now we work on getting oil temps down and fine tuning the autopilot. Everyone has these problems so we will be documenting what we are doing to fix it!

    Congratulations on the first flight! I've been eyeing the S21 to build for a while now thanks for sharing the build!! Did you consider the taildragger vs tricycle gear, I can't decide on which way to go. Your build looks great I hope yall get tons of enjoyment out of it!!

    • @DadandChad
      @DadandChad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The s21 is convertible so you can change it from tail to trike in a few hours if you want.

      I reread your comment and noticed I didn't answer you question. We considered both and Dad has tw endorsement. I guess it depends on your mission and personal preference. The tw won for us. But again, the builder can change back and fourth with a minimal cost and time.

    Did you need special authorization to have a second pilot on the initial flight? I had heard this could be done now, but wasn’t sure if anything special had to be done to make that legal.

      Please reference Advisory Circular 90-116.

    • @cubman2711
      @cubman2711 ปีที่แล้ว

      The APP specifies the qualifications necessary for the additional pilot. Having the additional pilot onboard during Phase I must be specified in the Operating Limitations.

      @@cubman2711 I was thinking there was some paperwork required to do this. I just read AC 90-116 and see that section 15 addresses this. The operating limitations are set by the DER during the airworthiness inspection, correct?

    I’m looking at the keys and wondering how smooth the flight actually was.

    • @DadandChad
      @DadandChad  ปีที่แล้ว

      The flight was smooth. The outside air vent is what is making the keys dance. 😊
