    Considering the weight of the heads, I wouldn’t rely on a cardboard box.
    No way you can say that was well packaged!!

    Those AEG613 heads had bigger exhaust valves than the 12g940 heads and were prone to cracking between the seats. 12g940 1805 heads had intakes the same size as AEG163 but smaller 29mm exhaust valves to minimise cracks.

      12G940 were much later S heads (Mk3) also on MG 1300 and 1300GT. Early S heads were just for S's.

    Great work Paul!
    Nice to see the Cooper parts.
    Did MOWOG made those heads and other parts?
    Who made the engine block?

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They sure did Francisco, they would have also been the people who cast the block

    Will there be any benefits between the rockers? Would you swap out standard guides for bronze ones? Saw Cole on his last vid , could not believe he was sending the heads across the Pond! But when when you want the best it's wot you got to do !😉

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Guy, at very high RPM the lighter rockers would show a slight improvement over the eirler rocker but for the purposes of a standard build I can’t see it making any odds

      @tonycamplin8607 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      BMC always recommend that you lightened those earlier style rockers for competition use.

    Another great one. However I disagree with you regarding the packaging, in my opinion it was atrocious. Such items should never been shipped in just a cardboard box. They should have been sent in a properly constructed wooden one.
    Now for my two pence worth. S heads were never used on MG1100's ordinary Cooper ones (12G206 or12G295) were.
    Those rocker assemblies weren't proper completion ones. BMC supplied a competition shaft, C-AEG399, this required an extra locating tapped pedestal, AEG165 with its locking plate 2A515 and corresponding locating screw 2A258. The original locating screw in the end pedestal is cutoff flush with the end of the thread to maintain the oil feed and no longer used to locate the shaft, this all provides a stronger more positively mounted assembly. Don't suppose that these parts are available now but that was what we put on all the works cars. I hope that the part numbers are all correct but it's now nearly 60 years since I was at Abingdon so my memory may well have faded. Part numbers were etched into our brains! By the way I think that that rocker no. should be AEG 425, not 6 at the end.

      Well said, my thoughts on the packaging replicated. If that's the way they package items for shipping I wouldn't have much faith in their rebuild skills?

    I know you've probably touched on this before, but whats your thoughts on stem seals? Only 4 on the inlets or fit all 8?

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me Simon I always go with 4 on the inlets as I actully like a little oil to make it down to the exhaust guides helps transmit heat and keeps things moving but on a very standard road engine 8 is fine

    • @simoncawthan9919
      @simoncawthan9919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HREIRL Cheers Paul. Its a very non-standard road engine, so I'll stay with just the 4 inlets :)

    Cylinder head packaging is a complete joke! Cardboard! come on guys. I blame shipping to some extent but whoever packed the heads! shame on you! Should have made a purpose-built safe secure box out of wood. Only in America Ay?
