Japanese Torii Kit Card 3D Print

Ever since I learned about kit cards I wanted to make one of my own. I tried to fuse my love of traditional Japanese woodwork and joinery with the art of 3D printing and create a relatively flat kit that allows you to build and snap together your own Torii gateway in a way very similar to how they are constructed in real life, replete with through mortise and wedge fasteners.
This took about sixteen hours over the course of five days total to design and test, it was pretty tricky nailing down all the tolerances so that it would be easy to assemble while staying solid and sturdily together by friction alone. This is what took the most time in the design process.
I also created a video showing step by step how to put it together. At the end of the process I used a rubber mallet to hammer down all the parts that were not perfectly joined and it worked like a charm. I was actually amazed by how much force it could endure. I'd guess at least 20 pounds on top of each support column and the arch. So don't be afraid to really whack it.

Cool runner style support, this looks awesome! Definitely going to try this out, might sand the pieces a bit so the joints aren't so stiff then glue if necessary.

not everyone is a triple threat I suppose. at least there's plenty of other Adderall and crystal meth fueled TH-camrs for you to enjoy. that 'useless inventions' guy might be more your speed.
