I bought the iPad Pro 10.5 and it work magically. I appreciate the 120hertz refresh rate , p3 colour gamut and 600nits brightness. The speakers are amazing and it’s fast with the a10x. In fact, I’m watching this on my pro.
I just bought the Air 2019 and it is perfect for my needs. I started a business for web development and iOS apps. I don't need to edit video or play games. I need it for the iWork apps, Coda, PDF Pen, and GoodNotes with some Affinity Photo and Designer. What sold me on it is the A12 chip and Bluetooth 5. I was more interested in future-proofing. Once I get more business, I'll get the latest Pro at the time and give this one to my fiancée or stepdaughter and let it last until Apple won't update iOS for it anymore.
Michel Bruns Idk what you do to notice the difference between the A10x and the A12. It’s like comparing the Snapdragon 835 with the 855; I as an average user can’t notice. But, however, the nice refresh rate on the Pro and the extra set of speakers are definitely noticeable. Raw power doesn’t mean much unless it’s really substantial, like upgrading from an A7.
I decided to upgrade from my mini 4 and grabbed a Pro 10.5. Got a renewed (literally like brand new), 256 GB space gray WiFi model for $435 on Amazon. I love, love, absolutely love it. The quad speakers are amazing and the screen refresh is blazingly fast. Gonna hold on to this baby for a good while. ❤️👏🏽
Well at the time they dc it, like cost $680 for the 64gb. But I had to replace it bc of a dead pixel. The tech guy at Apple said I could’ve sent it back to meijer. It was about $100 dollars off but I decided not to.
I just got my new ipad pro 10.5 today and today is it 3rd anniversary... Got the new one with 1 year apple waranty... I love it so much... Old but Gold... 😀😀😀

Bought iPad Pro 10.5 at an insane price can’t even say because I work at Bestbuy but also one other difference is the metal around the bezel of pro is a shiny metal versus matte which makes it feel more premium imo. Great review
Brian Ruhl 120hz refresh rate and earphone jack is what convinced me. Bought it used on OfferUp for 550 with pencil and keyboard. Its the cellular version too. Condition is almost new. A steal!!!!
Both have the white spot issues.. *sigh* Bought the new iPad Air in August and a few months later the screen started getting a few white spots. On the iPad Air, you only get tiny white spots as both the iPad Air and iPad Pro 10.5 both share the same body. Therefore, that’s why the issues are happening with the white spots. Sensitive screen on both. Though, whilst on my old iPad Pro 10.5 the white spots were quite noticeable and large. Don’t let that ruin what you pick though, you can get them both replaced if you encounter the issues in your 1 year warranty or if you have Apple Care. But, just be aware as the white spots are *VERY* annoying
I bought my Ipad Pro 10.5 last week. The quad speakers just makes watching videos/playing games much better than from my Air 2. Loving it so far. Even got a good deal on my 256gb from ebay as well.
Just got the iPad air 256gb and I'm loving it. I had bought a iPad pro 10.5 about a month ago but had the white spot issue on the screen above the home button straight out of the box. I returned it the same day and I'm glad I got this instead. The screen issue seems to be a common defect for the iPad pro 10.5.
@Ralle0990 white spot issue on the air 3 isn't as common as the pro 10.5. And the internals of the air 3 have been upgraded by Apple with a newer type of insulation to correct the issue.
@zollotech I’ve been waiting for a reputable person to do this comparison. Thank you! I already have the 2017 12.9 Pro and I’m happy. But my wife was upgrading from the 9.7 iPad Pro and we contemplated her upgrade path. We ended up going with the new Air because I’m thinking the new A12 with Neural engine will have a little more longevity and she she uses her AirPods most of the time and rarely uses the onboard speakers. She uses the Apple Pencil for taking notes instead of drawing. This 10.5 Pro may be a valid upgrade for me to replace my aging iPad Air 2 dev/media consumption. It seems this form factor is definitely the sweet spot in Apple’s features/value proposition. Thanks for the thorough review, and great music. As a developer/tester who wants to be informed when to install a beta, I’m a long time subscriber and your production just keeps getting better and better. Have a blessed day!
Same situation here, I'm about to buy iPad Air but now I'ma buy iPad Pro 10.5 but I'm still worried about this white spot issue and some say it is hard to remove it.
Mr. Ditkovich I picked 10.5 iPad Pro after all since I don’t think I’m that lucky, however the one I got ACTUALLY did have white spots exactly at the place I was worried about. So I returned and chose the iPad Air 10.5(though I still love the four speakers, I just can’t ignore the defects)
In my opinion Apple should’ve just had the new air replace the $329 iPad 6th gen, retaining it’s price. They’d also have one less model to produce and could still sell an iPad around $499, (10.5 Pro).
XHARDCOREGAMINGX couldn't do that because of the iPad mini They didn't want to lower the price because it would be hard to sell if you had an iPad air like for 329

I love my 10.5 pro.. my partner just bought himself a 10.5 air today! This video is very interesting for us. Waiting for the new 12.9 pro with the ultra wide camera doohickey to come out next year then that baby is mine ❤️
Had. a pro 9.7 and it started acting up and t-mobile sent me the 10.5 as a replacement and I love it. For those talking about software updates, Apple tends to keep updated on products for years. I had the new iPadOS beta on my 9.7 and now have it on my 10.5. My 2010 MacBook Pro just got cut off on updates for this year’s MacOS. That was almost 10 years worth of updates. If you get the pro you’ll will probably be ready to upgrade before it becomes outdated to software
I was looking to buy an iPad recently and was undecided between the iPad Air and Pro 2017. Found a really good deal on a brand new Pro, with more storage and LTE. Your video has helped me make a decision and went with the Pro, due to being better for multimedia overall.
Thanks for the comparison, just what I needed. I currently own the iPad Pro and was thinking of upgrading and gifting my pro to the wife. After watching your video/comparison, I agree ☝️ with your assessment and I’m just going to purchase another iPad Pro. What is most confusing to me is what was Apple’s thinking 💭 when they developed the iPad Air. In my view they added the latest processor 👍 and degraded the rest of the product.
I just bought the Pro from Apple and I’m really happy since I think it’s a great machine, I upgraded from the Pro 9.7 so I’m used to the features that model has to offer and it would be a downgrade not to get the Pro model again.
Miljan Stanojević same I’m actually going to buy a used pro for $300 64g it’s in good condition I met the person and the iPad looks good and he’s selling a used Smart Keyboard fo $50 sounds like a good deal to me
NOT A NOOB7869 without a doubt that’s a great deal. My only question to you is HOW USED? I am not talking appearances, but specifically battery performance. My iPad Pro 10.5 is coming up on 2 years, and lately I’ve been noticing battery strength attrition. I ran the Geekbench 4 test on it, and its lost over 30% of its capacity. My Applecare Plus coverage expires in a month, so I’m going to take it to get it replaced. If I did it AFTER my warranty expired it would cost $99, so make sure you factor all this in.
Lawrence Cirillo just got mine apple certified refurbished. Cellular 64gb for $636 with tax. Their refurbished iPads are good as new, couldn’t tell any difference. They have a rigorous quality control process. New battery and aluminum casing with the 1 year warranty. Eligible for AppleCare too. I didn’t want a private seller iPad because there isn’t much guarantee. Way more confidence buying straight from apple.
I got an iPad Pro 10.5 rose gold with the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard all for only $300 on offerup and omg I LOVE IT 😍 I mostly use it for TH-cam and procreate at the moment until I go back to school then I will use for note taking!
I would take the pro because you get the 120htz screen 4 speakers instead of 2 and the same features as the air. only difference is price and chip but realistically a10x is still good enough.
The thing that people don't mention a lot is the iPad pro 10.5 has a pretty bad response time and has ghosting. So the 120hz refresh doesn't look all that great because the icons have ghosting when you're switching between home screens.
Hey Aaron, much appreciate your reviews on anything Apple! They provide a wealth of useful information and helped me with some seemingly hard decisions - including the one i just made about keeping the Pro vs. selling it & buying an Air . Thanks & keep it coming!
@@SanzSplitStream i heard new ipad pro is coming in a few months.. still not sure will it be bending or not. But price might be higher than the 2018 ipad pro that the price will go downhill
Ryoko Hirosue If a new pro is on its way then I’ll wait a little longer, however if the new iPad is not worth the money I’ll probably get last years pro.
Your video really helped me made the decision of getting the iPad Pro 10.5 refurbished one straight from Apple. Really love your work, sincerely appreciated. Thank you
Which do you recommend Ipad Pro 2017 or Ipad Air 3? As far as watching a video or a movie, does the pro motion display on the Pro make a noticeable difference compared to the Air?
It's seriously something you don't think about after a while. iPad pro 10.5 has poor response time with ghosting (trails behind moving icons) even though it has the 120hz refresh.
Tech guy, I’m not sure what you mean by ghosting trails, but I’ve never noticed anything resembling that. I bought an iPad Air 2019 two weeks ago for $479 from Amazon, but then found a sealed iPad Pro 10.5 on eBay for $469. I opened it up and compared them, and I guarantee you’ll notice the difference with ProMotion vs. not. Amazon has a great return policy and I sent the iPad Air back.
12345a You're wrong. Response time is what removes ghosting and according to Notebook check's review iPad pro 10.5 has a poor display response time. Grey to grey is 39ms ... black to White is 17ms both of which are quite poor. www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-iPad-Pro-10-5-Tablet-Review.228714.0.html
The new Air is pretty much the perfect device for hobbyist/amateur digital artists who are on a budget as it pretty much has all of the essential features that even a professional artist would need like P3 colour gamut for example! The new IPad would also receive software support for longer than the old pro plus it would also have better performance with the CPU and image processing due to how it has the neural engine but it’s still slightly under the pro when it comes to GPU performance but you would get around the same GPU performance with both devices in most applications due to how similar they are in performance! :)
Ralle0990 Well I ended up getting the air last year as we had to get it in store due to us not really trusting buying stuff used/refurbished online anymore due to us getting scammed multiple times before by legitimate looking sellers that have just suddenly decided to scam their buyers. Though I do do quite a lot of image upscaling on my IPad and it’s also an app that takes advantage of the neural engine and possibly even requires it to function! :)
Ralle0990 I was needing exactly that info. im wondering if iPad Air 2019 would have issues when using lots of layers, I have and iPad 2018 and when I use autodesk sketchbook it crashes as soon as I open a new layer. I’m about to sell my iPad 2018 to get one with more powerful gpu and wasn’t sure if the iPad Air would be. I de died to buy the pro 10.5 2017 but The only thing that worries me about it is that there are bugs now affecting old iPads pro when updating to the latest OS version 13.5 (I guess that will be fixed anyways) and also worries me that, If its 3 years old, I will get obsolete soon.
I had the 10.5 pro for six months then develop the white spot problem it’s on TH-cam research it .....so I bought the 11 inch pro and love it ....to me the perfect size iPad
brigntness ist said to be: air: 500 nits pro: 600 nits when i measure both the air has slightly more lux and that also my feeling on this issue how come? more nits, more brightness i thought
I get terrible eye strain from the iPad Pro 10.5. I never got it from the iPad 2 or the iPad Air. Researching it shows there are others who experience the same eye strain issue. I’m going to buy the iPad Air 3 and hopefully get rid of the eye strain.
ipad pro 10.5 have 12gpu while ipad air 3 have 4 gpu. u can test the gpu benchmark to see the different. thus, ipad air 3 have latest cpu but less graphic compare to ipad pro.
The only reason I don't pick the pro over the Air, is because of the reported issue with the display, having a light spot above the fingerprint sensor on the display is a really big turn off for me. I don't see many people mentioning that in these comparisons, but it is an unacceptable issue to me. It appears later down the line for apparently, many users.
Exunary thanks I hope it doesn’t too. Do beer in mind though that it is caused by the display ribbon cables pressing on the display where they connect to the motherboard, and in the Air 3, they are in the same place as the pro, so it’s possible we could see it happen to that model too. It’s a bit early to tell.
Very interesting comparison. I wonderif the +1GB RAM makes a big difference at exporting times. I would also really like to see an iPhone XS vs. iPad Pro 2 test, where they both have 4GB RAM. Also if we look at Metal scores on Geekbench they indicate that the A10X’s GPU is faster than even the A13’s GPU, but Antutu says the A13’s GPU is a lot faster. Maybe it’s an efficiency thing? The A10X is 10nm vs. 7nm for the A13 so it might do a lot better at sustained workloads producing less heat even though it technically is slightly slower... I don’t know. I really would like to see: iPad Pro 2 vs. iPhone Xs Max iPad Pro 2 vs. iPhone 11 Pro Max iPad Air 3 vs. iPhone Xs Max comparisons. Not necessarily from you tho, Aaron :) Appreciate your content, you’re doing great!
I prefer to buy the iPad Air 3 and support Dolby Vision with P3 color gamut with more then 68 billion colors on Dolby Vision compared to 1 billion color (HDR)
I’m just gonna get the Air if I can. Never had ProMotion, I don’t think I’ll miss it. Brightness is never all the way up for me. I want 4K but don’t really need it. Speakers I’m ok with just on the right. Most importantly I need power, so I’ll probably get the Air
I'm not really big on "refurbished," and as someone who is new to Apple, I just got my first Apple iphone this year, but as an artist and a content creator I need to update things (I'm old school, lol! and have been a PC user) and I want to start creating digital art. Is it really worth is to get the Refurbished iPad Pro instead of the new iPad Air? I'm not into 4K videos right now, I have an Art/Craft/Journal channel. I'm not a gamer. I eventually want to get an iMac to go along with the whole converting to Apple since most of my stuff is writing and art. So as a new Apple user who wants to get used to Apple and learn which would you suggest?
gimmedaloot754 I don’t think he gloss’s over it. His analysis led him to the conclusion that the iPad Pro 10.5 was a better value. But, you ARE correct. It’s Geekbench Metal score (which measures the productivity of the GPU) is 33% better than the iPad Air 2019. Just keep in mind though that it’s A12 chip will allow it to pay at a higher setting per frame rate (High vs Medium at say 60fps), BUT with not as silky smooth an experience.
finally someone compared these two. Everyone just talking about iPad 6 vs air.
air2 sucks, its oldest crap ever, 6s cpu inside

Lawrence Cirillo battery is 87% very happy with it got it yesterday
Lawrence Cirillo just got mine apple certified refurbished. Cellular 64gb for $636 with tax. Their refurbished iPads are good as new, couldn’t tell any difference. They have a rigorous quality control process. New battery and aluminum casing with the 1 year warranty. Eligible for AppleCare too. I didn’t want a private seller iPad because there isn’t much guarantee. Way more confidence buying straight from apple.
What about the dead pixels or white spot above the home screen
Watched a few of your videos on these comparisons and decided to go with the Pro. Nice job on all!
Thank you
Perfect choice!
Updated my ipad pro 10.5 2017 to ipad OS 17 the other day, Who would believe that this device would continue to have iOS support after 6 years
Me too, thing is still a beast
I bought pro yesterday
Thank you for explaining this in such a clear and detailed manner. Your videos are very easy to understand.
Both of these are very rare to find in 2022. Im locking for either one that is the best.
I got an iPad Pro 10.5 rose gold with the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard all for only $300 on offerup and omg I LOVE IT 😍 I mostly use it for TH-cam and procreate at the moment until I go back to school then I will use for note taking!
Wow, you've made an incredible deal...
I picked the Pro 10.5 as well. Am watching this video on it. Got a refurbished one from Amazon for $345. Excellent condition. Great deal!
Can you share a link please
Can you share the link please
I would take the pro because you get the 120htz screen 4 speakers instead of 2 and the same features as the air. only difference is price and chip but realistically a10x is still good enough.
The thing that people don't mention a lot is the iPad pro 10.5 has a pretty bad response time and has ghosting. So the 120hz refresh doesn't look all that great because the icons have ghosting when you're switching between home screens.
The response times are better than the standard iPads. Mine has some ghosting, but it’s still much nicer than any 60hz screen.
iPad pro 10.5 sells for 1000$ in India whereas the iPad air 3 is sold for 700 $ this makes the iPad air the better option
same as indonesia
wow the pro is 360 dollars on amazon air is 300 lul
In my country iPad Pro 2017 is at 650 dollars when iPad Air 3 is at 550$
Hey Aaron, much appreciate your reviews on anything Apple! They provide a wealth of useful information and helped me with some seemingly hard decisions - including the one i just made about keeping the Pro vs. selling it & buying an Air . Thanks & keep it coming!
Appreciate this video a lot. Now I have already bought an ipod pro 10.5 :)
If the a10x chip would have supported multi processor use of both the fast and slower cores, I would recommend that instead of the a12.
This is the video I was looking for. Everybody just talks about iPad Pro Vs iPad 6th Gen
You mean air 3 vs iPad 6th gen
Sure
Promotion is not the only difference between the displays. The pro also gos up to 600 nits of brightness and the air up to 500.
And don't forget the Pro supports HDR and Dolby Vision. The Air does not.
I bought an new old stock pro. The stereo speakers alone are worth it in my opinion. I can’t stand sound firing on one side only.
I’m watching this on my iPad 2018, hoping to get the new iPad Pro 12.9 around Black Friday sales.
what a waste of money
Have u bought? Lots people say pro prone to bending
Ryoko Hirosue No I haven’t, I’m waiting for a sale before spending 1k on a device that could bend...
“Once you’ve had pro motion, it’s hard not to have pro motion”
True.
Your video really helped me made the decision of getting the iPad Pro 10.5 refurbished one straight from Apple. Really love your work, sincerely appreciated. Thank you
Great Video! Watched on my 2018 11 inch iPad Pro. Promotion is definitely a game changer and I can’t go back to older iPads with the 60hz screen lol.
I love my 10.5 Pro. It is a great little machine and it doesn’t bend like a piece of cheese like the 11 does.
Average Joe and headphone jack ! I hate using adapters on my iphone !
I got an awesome Amazon Best Buy price match deal on a 2019 regular iPad 128 gb. I barely use it lol.
Keeping this one for several years.
Not having a laminated screen and pro motion bugs the crap out of me now that I've had it.
Great video! This shines some light on apples under-appreciated iPads.
Which do you recommend Ipad Pro 2017 or Ipad Air 3? As far as watching a video or a movie, does the pro motion display on the Pro make a noticeable difference compared to the Air?
Do you think speaker difference too noticable? Because I will also listen music and watch something.
Moreover, 120Hz screen a bit better.
Which one is best for gaming suggest me as early as possible... Thank u 🙏💕
Ipad pro you can run c ops on 120 fps
IF ONLY iPad Air had ProMotion (with the same price)
I wouldve bought it in a heartbeat
@@Toyeboy89 120Hz IS what removes what you call "ghosting". 120Hz >> 60Hz.
Everything feels smoother
12345a You're wrong. Response time is what removes ghosting and according to Notebook check's review iPad pro 10.5 has a poor display response time. Grey to grey is 39ms ... black to White is 17ms both of which are quite poor.

May you recommend an apple pencil alternative for iPad pro 10.5 with palm rejection?
The new Air is pretty much the perfect device for hobbyist/amateur digital artists who are on a budget as it pretty much has all of the essential features that even a professional artist would need like P3 colour gamut for example! The new IPad would also receive software support for longer than the old pro plus it would also have better performance with the CPU and image processing due to how it has the neural engine but it’s still slightly under the pro when it comes to GPU performance but you would get around the same GPU performance with both devices in most applications due to how similar they are in performance! :)
Ralle0990
Well I ended up getting the air last year as we had to get it in store due to us not really trusting buying stuff used/refurbished online anymore due to us getting scammed multiple times before by legitimate looking sellers that have just suddenly decided to scam their buyers.
Watching this on pro 10.5 inch!
Me too.
Me too.
Me too.
Do you guys have the bright spot issue?
@@Flawlless nope. my display is fine as hell
Nice. You helped me make my mind up, thanks!
I just bought ipad 12.9 2017 version cause i dont like design of 2018-2019 vesrion
Souris. exe same
In still getting the 2020 version
I had the 10.5 pro for six months then develop the white spot problem it’s on TH-cam research it .....so I bought the 11 inch pro and love it ....to me the perfect size iPad
The air 3 would be mind blowing if :
Launched with the iphone 11
Had an A13 Bionic
90 hz display
Usb type c
brigntness ist said to be:
air: 500 nits
pro: 600 nits
when i measure both the air has slightly more lux and that also my feeling on this issue
how come?
more nits, more brightness i thought
I'm. Actually choosing between them now what do you recommend in 2020
@Ralle0990 refurb?
IPad Pro all10.5 all day so glad I watched this vid helped me choose
Great and informative video as always.
I always dream to have an ipad :(
The air is being held back by its use of the iPhone XR internals, while the pro is being held back by its older processor.
Thanks, this video is exactly what I needed. Much thanks.
I get terrible eye strain from the iPad Pro 10.5. I never got it from the iPad 2 or the iPad Air. Researching it shows there are others who experience the same eye strain issue. I’m going to buy the iPad Air 3 and hopefully get rid of the eye strain.
I just got my iPad Pro 10.5 in black did I do the right choice by getting the black instead of the white and is 256gb enough
Great video. I’m thinking of upgrading my 6th gen iPad to 2017 iPad Pro 10.5. By the way, which casing will you recommend using for the iPad Pro ?
I use the apple Smart Cover and leather case
Pro definitely better experience when using. 👌🏻👌🏻
ipad pro 10.5 have 12gpu while ipad air 3 have 4 gpu. u can test the gpu benchmark to see the different. thus, ipad air 3 have latest cpu but less graphic compare to ipad pro.
The only reason I was hesitant on getting the air 3 or mini 5 was because of the pro 10.5 being better in almost every single aspect
I don’t have that issue personally and have never seen one although obviously some do.
@@zollotech I've had two units both had white spots. I'm on my third unit already.
Exunary it’s happened me. And I think it will happen to my replacement too, by which time I’ll be out of warranty. Yay.
@@scottbrady6795 Best of luck that it wont happen again to you, if else then I hope you can still be happy with it.
I really would like to see:
iPad Pro 2 vs. iPhone Xs Max
iPad Pro 2 vs. iPhone 11 Pro Max
iPad Air 3 vs. iPhone Xs Max comparisons. Not necessarily from you tho, Aaron :) Appreciate your content, you’re doing great!
Hi Aaron Gosh thank you for these comparisons, so happens my friend asked me about it and I will share your video with him.
I prefer to buy the iPad Air 3 and support Dolby Vision with P3 color gamut with more then 68 billion colors on Dolby Vision compared to 1 billion color (HDR)
What about ipad pro 10.5
I’m just happy I found a pro with a headphone jack
Great vid!!! Would you recommend the refurbished iPad Pro 10.5 or the new iPad Air 3 2019?
iPad Pro
After watching the video I immediately went and search for a new Pro 10.5
Did you find one?
@@notsogood9449 Yep, Pro 10.5 256gb at 540€ vs Air3 64gb at 499€. It was a no brainer.
I’m just gonna get the Air if I can. Never had ProMotion, I don’t think I’ll miss it. Brightness is never all the way up for me. I want 4K but don’t really need it. Speakers I’m ok with just on the right. Most importantly I need power, so I’ll probably get the Air
Finally the video I wanted to see.
Great vid, thanks for that I’m on iPad Pro team
Single core and multi core scores are shown. Why not metal score? Pro has a 12 core GPU which outshines the Air but you just glossed over this why?
gimmedaloot754 I don’t think he gloss’s over it.
Watching in my iPad Air :)) HES SO GOOD
I had the iPad mini 3 and the first air comparing all models besides the new pro, my iPad 10.5 Is actually better then the rest...
Which is good for gaming
