I used my iPad mini to take all my senior year college notes (Comp Sci, hand written notes on PDFs, Notability), and I also use it as a sketchbook with Procreate. I found that being able to one-hand the iPad Mini with the Apple case folded up into a grip made it incredibly easy to take notes either at a desk or standing up while doing group meetings.
When doing drawings in Procreate I do find myself zooming in to do details, but that jives with my workflow. There's a couple other people who use iPad Pros in my figure drawing sessions, but they find it unwieldy without a surface - though with a surface I think they prefer the larger format.

ipad air or just ditch it and get the mini which one should I get? And do i really need wifi + cellular? I really only need a ipad for watching anime lmao as well as college, travelling, and using it for notes. I really like the mini kinda leaning towards it. But i need an opinion.
I also wanna ask if the screen was ever a downside and what issues have you had with the mini?

To my great astonishment it is GREAT. And no- no one should „avoid it at all cost“.
It is just perfect to use on the fly or on the couch.
    Highly recommended!

I am a digital nomad and the Mini 6 became my main driver. I take notes, draw professionally on it, use it for media. It’s the best device. When I need a larger screen I plug it with an HDMI cable to the hotel’s TV, and coupled with a bluetooth keyboard, it’s perfect.

  • @Jc50gt

My opinion, it’s great on the go for all the cons you mentioned. Reason is, i believe it needs to be looked at as a small notepad. Can you take notes and draw on a notepad? Yes. It’s to get ideas down while still being able to do what the big ones can do. Basically as a second ipad. If you’re just going to use it at home to watch videos, i say get the Air. Bigger screen is nicer. The mini is too close in size to the iPhone to justify using the mini for watching videos only. My opinion.

  • @sloppynyuszi
    @sloppynyuszi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

As someone who draws I disagree with the iPad mini being a bad idea for drawing. If you a professional or someone that draws at home a lot, then yes it’s not the ideal primary device. I have a Cintiq and an iPad Pro, and the mini is what I take with me. I do my TikTok’s on it, and brainstorm all my ideas. I do my final polish on another device because you need to double check if things turned out right, but as a digital sketchbook it’s perfect.

Hey there! During the war that is going on in Ukraine now I found that mini is actually a great tablet. I have 64/LTE edition. Here are my pros:
    * if there is power outage, mini lasts a long time. Like - really long, compared to Phone.
    * it is actually a perfect portable wifi AP for People around you, since its antennas are way better than iPhone.
    * type c connector lets me quickly review photos out in the wild, which can sometimes mean life and death.
    * Touch id is actually great, since you don't need to point your face to the ipad for unlocking.
    * weird hint: type c to lighning cable actually charges whatever you plug into lightning port. Oh, and fast charging is great here.
    * piloting drones or planning route is great on bigger screen, as mini still fits in smallest purses (if you need it).
    * cheap chinese knockoff pencils (like a baseus active stylus) are great for taking notes. They still attach magnetically.
    * speakers are pretty good and loud, through a bit Hard to hear whwn helicopter hovers somewhere close :)

I have the IPad mini 6 and love it. Luckily, I was able to catch it on sale at best buy for $100.00 off. I carry a small purse and it fits in it perfectly. I am able to do all the cons you mentioned with ease no matter where I am. I literally journal, plan, and take notes on it everyday. I have not had a problem writing on it. I carry a small keyboard to do work on it, it has freed me from having to carry a laptop or a bigger iPad around. It is so convenient. I think that is what makes it so great.

The iPad Mini 6 is finally the Goldilocks of iPad sizes. Now please give me a mini LED Pro model.
It is absolutely Apple's dark horse. I've had it since launch and you're right in that it's a phenomenal consumption device. It's become a constant companion so I can read the news, watch TV on the treadmill at the gym, even game with it more than my Switch. Plus it's PERFECT for XBox cloud gaming.
It's the swiss army knife of iPads, not a perfect tool for everything but handy in a pinch.

  • @SpencerChong
    @SpencerChong 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

you are absolutely correct that the iPad mini 6 is "complicated". I find that most people who regret their purchase or complain about it expect it to be the same experience as using an Air/Pro when the use case is obviously different. If the user needs tasks like heavy workflows/processes, lots of time on on excel sheets, writing long documents/emails, running complicated project management tools, drawing even, sketching huge mindmaps then I highly doubt the mini is for such a person.
The screen size is meant to be used as a companion device. I got it specifically because I've got 3 huge screens around me already (desktop, MacBook, TV) and the mini is really good as a sidekick, to search for something, to read a review/accompanying article/opinion piece while watching a movie, etc.

It's a device that you can really use professionally. I use it at a venue where I need to control video projectors over a network or mixing tables with the respective Yamaha App for the Q1 and the CL5.

You are spot on with the memory - this is standard for Apple - the entry level has too little memory - the upgrade has too much and costs too much.

Hard disagree on the note taking. I completely agree with the other points, particularly that for editing and other resource intense tasks, a different device would work better. But for note taking, it's by far the best tablet I've ever used, at least in a medical setting. It fits comfortably in my white coat or scrub jacket and allows me to quickly and easily take patient notes. It really does the job perfectly and also works really well as a general note taking too, in my experience.

  • @hhoebeke1
    @hhoebeke1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It all depends… fully agree on the storage, should have been 128 (same for the air), it should also have a smart connector and 1st party keyboard case. I have mine (256, not cellular) since day 1 and I love it. The best tablet/device for each task is the one you can have with you and I take the mini everywhere, which was not always possible with the larger sizes. I think it is perfect for reading and annotating and have been able - without much compromise to use it as my sole device for a 2-week work trip… a stand, good keyboard and mouse made it perfectly useable to write and do all the note taking etc I needed, without having to take a larger, heavier device. The only difficulty was having to carry three extra items (stand, keyboard and mouse). Please give gen 2 a magic keyboard! @home or going to the library for intensive work, I do rely on the iPad Pro 12.9 or a MacBook Air (both M1), and although I need the Mac for a few things and I like it a lot (best traditional computer I’ve had), I increasingly prefer the iPad - that keyboard is the best ever. I also like the more focused multi-tasking on the iPad. iPad os however needs to make a few further steps, some quirks remain.. but even when I am on either the MacBook or the larger iPad, the Mini is always there… so easy to grab and do a quick search, read,…

    Great video! Thanks a lot!
However, kinda fed up hearing TH-camrs giving bad ratings to the iPad mini by expecting it to be used like a bigger iPad. iPad mini is an ultra portable tablet, so it shouldn’t be rated on the same base than bigger iPads!
You can’t buy the mini, expect to use it like a big/regular iPad, and then say oh the mini isn’t a good tablet.
The mini is a great consumption device, it’s ultra portable and it’s for people who just enjoy/need portability over anything else.
If you intend to use it as a laptop replacement - heck even an iPad Pro replacement - then OF COURSE you’re gonna be disappointed.
You need a device to comfortably type on, work long hours on productivity tasks, do heavy lifting jobs like video/photo editing or professional drawing ? Get a laptop or an iPad Pro.
You want the cutest little tablet ever, to be able to take it anywhere with you, to watch content, play, take a few notes here and there, browse some web or read books ? Get an iPad mini.
    It’s as simple as that.
Don’t rate the mini based on what it’s not.
I personally own an 11inch M1 iPad Pro and the mini has been in my basket for months now because I think its just plain cuteness and I just love being able to carry it everywhere. But the Touch ID (not Face ID), the refresh rate and the fact that the screen real estate is not utilized at its full (ie app icons and widgets are bigger on the iPhone 13 pro max than on the iPad mini 🤯) prevents me from buying it. I want the best screen experience on all my iPads and the iPad mini- despite its great built and performance- is in my opinion not quite there yet. If Apple fixes these 3 things on iPad mini 7 I’ll get one for sure.
Only sharing my opinion here though, I really did still like this video and again - thanks for offering us great content 👍

The mini is the only true iPad - a full handheld iPad experience everywhere. For some productivity I connect an external display, keyboard and mouse. I don't have the new iPad mini, but I drew WAY more on my iPad mini 5 then I did my iPad pro 11. Bigger screen size is great, but also less portable and much more cumbersome
With all the modern features of digital drawing, like pinch to zoom, there's no reason you can't make the mini work very well as a drawing tablet

I agree with all you said...except the face ID. I don't know why so many TH-camrs rave about faceID. I FAR prefer fingerprint ID. It's way more secure, and just means when reaching out to pick up your phone or Tablet, just rest your finger on the sensor and bam, phone is open. I hate faceID and wish all devices came out with fingerprintID on the rear or top of the device - I don't like in screen fingerprint ID, it needs a conscious effort to place your finger on the screen. I far prefer the sensor to be on the side or back of the phone where your finger naturally rests when holding the phone

Good to see different perspectives; of course 1 device doesn't suit all. Agree that 64gb is stupidly small and these days 128gb is a minimum. For myself, have been looking at the mini 6, air 5, M1 pro 11"... Disagree about mini 6 being too small for notes, drawing, or video editing.
I have the ipad mini 4 and the ipad 6th gen, both with 128gb, both loaded with pdf books and manuals plus tons of apps and with 100gb free space. My writing is teeny tiny small naturally and prefer drawing on 3x5 or better yet 4x6 cards (bcs they fit in a pocket), so for me the smaller writing surface is normal.
Just loaded Lumafusion on both ipad mini 4 and ipad 6th gen, today did my first ever video editing of a 1.5sec drawing animation (adding video and text to make ~6sec animated drawing)...did it on the ipad mini 4(where the video was stored)...and that is a smaller screen than the mini 6 screen!!
    SO...here's my take...
    1. Both mini and full size are good for web browsing and watching videos.
    2. Full size is nicer for photo and video editing, but both sizes work well.
    3. Mini is easier for reading and traveling, but both sizes work.
    4. Drawing size is very personal...some like smaller formats and others like larger formats...so it just depends.
For people buying today, I would recommend they get any tablet with the usb-c connector. Avoid 64gb... smallest to get is 128gb... if you want to edit photos or video or draw, then go for 256gb.
    But that's just my take.

I just re-purchased the iPad mini six because of its portability but after having it I realized I enjoy my iPad Pro from 2018 in the Magic Keyboard case more. I still like the iPad mini but it’s just not for me. Having two iPads doesn’t make sense for me also. I will say I wish they scaled iPadOS on the mini six a lot better and I understand the bezels to hold but I still wish they were smaller. I would even take a whole punch camera to have a bigger screen and less bezels. So I will be returning the mini 6 for a second time. I just hope they give the 2022 iPad Pro 11 inch miniLED

I’m sorry, I have to disagree with you in many of your conclusions…
In fact, iPadmini’s competitors are actually not other iPad lines but iPhone, due to its perfect balance between portability and performance. Which means, it’s not only the smallest iPad but the biggest iPhone as well!
If you dislike something, how about rethinking your perspective?
Anyway, noting is perfect, the art of life is compromising.

I got the mini 6th Gen, with cellular, to accompany my 12.9” M1 Pro. That thing is too big for me to carry around daily. However, I got my hands on a 7th gen regular iPad and the size is better. Seeing as I’ve paid the money, I’m keeping the mini, but I’m trying too find more ways to use it. The screen doesn’t brighten enough for me. It seems the regular iPad is brighter. I’m used to watching videos on the 12.9”, so the mini is a bit to use for watching videos normally. I’ll carry it when I go into the office, as it’s so portable and may use it for entertainment during the workday. Or if I’m watching TV/movies on my Pro, I may pick up the mini to play games or check the web. If I could go back, I’d stick with the Pro and a regular iPad. I do like that I can switch the 2nd gen Apple Pencil to use on either the Pro or the mini. And I appreciate the USB-C. But I agree that it’s too small to want to use a keyboard and mouse. I suppose if I’m in a bind, I can use a USB-C hub and connect to a larger monitor. It’s a great size for reading books, but once I put a case on it, it feels too bulky. My next purchase will be a sticker skin, so I can appreciate the smaller form factor.

Terren, appreciate the hustle to make all these videos! I got the iPad Mini 6 last week and absolutely in love with it. The cons you mentions don’t per say apply to me though I agree with them from a certain POV. I mainly got it to consume content and have a larger screen than my iPhone but smaller/more portable than my M1 MacBook Air. Your cellular connectivity video convinced me to get the 5G model and I have zero regrets with that as well! Have connectivity everywhere has been a blessing esp when I’m a social media manager who needs to be connected everywhere. Hotspotting isn’t ideal bc it killed my iPhone’s battery. Thanks again for all you do!

I think there is a type of artist/student and type of content creator that would still enjoy this ipad for those things. For artists and students, those with small hands, or those with a preference for small notebooks and sketchbooks such as a5 ones. As for content creators, those who make tiktok content who edit everything on their phones might benefit from the larger screen and the video editing apps on the ipad compared to using their phone.
I also believe instagram content creators who just want a bigger screen to edit their photos might enjoy this ipad versus a bigger one, and these types of creators would not necessarily want or need to spend that much more money on a macbook... Also, any of these types of people who want to get things done on the go wouldn't have to worry about portability with a bigger ipad, and students who only have access to very, very small desks might not want anything bigger than this for in-person note taking

I’m so glad someone saying that. I thing the same about the size. Handwritten notes 📝 are just fine but not really usable for annotating text. I do prefer the 11“ iPads.

Getting the iPad 9th gen in a week with an apple pencil 1st gen and a trifold case. The jelly scroll effect & poor battery life (in comparison to iPad 9th gen) with x 1.5 times price hike is not worth it for me. Also since the 9th gen will be supported till 2026/27 it checks every box there is.

Watching from an 8th Gen iPad. I'm recently playing PUBG Mobile game heavily after having a stable Wi-Fi connection on my house. But the game had crashed two times on this iPad.. The A12 Bionic feels a bit laggy for a heavy game like PuBg though it's acceptable that the chipset is alomst four years older as of now. Should I get the A15 Bionic on the Mini 6 for gaming?

I find that men tend not too like IPad mini’s but women love them. I used An IPad mini 3 for 8 years it was my primary device that I used for school, watching tv and writing papers I loved that thing until it stopped working.🥲 I wanted to get a new mini 6 but my store had sold out of all of them and had to get an IPad Air 4. I still want a mini to take with me to fit into my little bag. I had to buy a special bag just for this thing. I have really small hands so the mini is perfect for me. When I finally get a mini my air with only be for home use as my primary computer. I think minis are great for kids because they have really small hands. They will be able to edit their video, take notes and draw on that little IPad with ease. I want to get one for my niece she loves drawing and I want to get her into digital art young.
