- Piston rings are installed in piston grooves. Piston rings have the mainly 3 function in piston,those are
● Sealing of combustion chamber for preventing leakage of fresh charge and gases from combustion chamber to the sump.
● scrapping of excess oil from the wall of cylinder cylinder.
● transferring the heat of piston to cylinder wall.
In this video these functions will be explained in detail.
Piston rings are of two types types:
● compression ring and
● oil scraper ring
Compression rings again can be classified classified:
as per the the cross section area of piston piston of piston ring:
Rectangular Ring, taper face ring ring, barrel face ring ring, keystone ring, inside bevel ring
As per the piston ring joints :
Butt joint ring, angle joint ring ,lap or step jointing ring.
Types of oil rings :
Single piece rings,Duaflex ring,T flex ring.
Clearance in piston: piston ring end gap, piston ring side clearance.
