The best Suburban generation made. I was ignorant to how great Suburbans were for decades. Grew up with square body pick ups, my late father always kept one. He got an astro van for a family hauler, but now im thinking, he would have been much happier with a Suburban. I now own an 2005 Suburban Z71 4x4 and adore it. Will completely rebuild it and keep it forever. My 5.3L is approaching 400k miles still going strong.

When I got my Suburban I found out about the 06 Suburban LTZ. It's basically a unicorn. They are pretty rare. They basically came with Z71 trim, but all the plastics were black instead of gray. The roof rack and step bars also look exactly like the Z71 versions, except they are chrome instead of black. Then the grill is somewhat special as well, it's a color matched grill just like a Z71 grill, but then just the center bar is chrome like the 99-02 Silverado grill. Then GM also decided to throw in the Escalade door handles and the same exact 20" chrome wheels that came on the Silverado SS. And don't forget the drivetrain, it had an AWD 6.0 just like the Escalade and Denali.
It's like GM took all the best parts off the GMT800's and put them all on one SUV for the final year of the body style.
I remember when I bought my black Suburban LTZ front air dam. I searched high and low and I couldn't find one, all I kept coming up with was the gray Z71 air dam. I ended up getting a VIN from a 06 LTZ and then using that to get an actual part number from the dealer. Once I had the CORRECT part number for the actual black air dam, I tracked one down that a Chevy dealership was selling on eBay. Now you can find aftermarket black Z71/LTZ style air dams all over, even at Rockauto

Great to see one that's still in great condition. I bought a black one in 2018 in similar condition as you have now. Super clean, always garaged. I wasn't a huge fan of the chrome, but it's grown on me. I've built mine out to be an outdoor adventure vehicle, so it has a lot more wear from off roading. It came with dual chrome exhausts that came out at a 45deg angle (dealer modified courtesy vehicle). I absolutely loved the look of them as they really matched the rest of the vehicle, but it does have a very loud drone at highway speeds. Aftermarket headlights and taillights really improve night time driving and give the truck an updated look. Most people thought the car was 10 years newer.
It was in an accident a few months ago and deemed a total loss by insurance. I bought it back and am trying to rebuild it. The LTZ trim pieces are hard to find and are very expensive compared to regular ones. She still runs strong though. I've only seen one other white one on the road.

Well sir I can tell you that at least 3 of them exist ! me and my dad both have one, mine is white my dads is black, I too would like to know if they were a limited production rig. I can tell you this, I also have an 06 Yukon Denali XL and aside from the Chevy vs GMC livery they are exactly the same in every way. They are on the same chassis, same mag ride suspension, same lq4 engine/trans/t-case differential setup, literally identical. Even the interior is all basically taken from the denali with the exception of a few minor things. If you look at a Denali it has the same graphite trim interior package, center console, bose audio all of it. My Dad and I always joke that GM just had a bunch of leftover parts for 2006 to move so they slapped these together and shoved them out the door to make way for the 07+ yours is a nice clean example though. My dad has just over 55,000 miles on his I've got just over 100k on mine. The gmt 800 will always be my favorite!

I do think these were built to burn off parts! Ironic they came up with a few special items unique to them though. On the 96 GM B bodies, a lot of the late production was fully loaded white Caprices, Roadmasters etc, so they could install any color interior in them!

Some more oddities with the LTZ- I believe the roof rack rails are from the Escalade adapted to the Z71 rack, as people on the truck forums used to mod those onto the Z71s, those rails just fit tight to the Escalade roof. The LTZ used a lot of the Z71 Suburban lower cladding in black instead of gray, but a few parts were unique to these, like the cladding behind the rear wheels. The carbon fiber looking applique was unique to these, on the dash bezel and door switch panels. Chevys typically had a black steering wheel and column trim, but these had a Denali steering wheel in tan for instance here, with a color matched airbag cover. I copied this on my Tahoe with a tan Denali wheel and a tan Chevy Trailblazer airbag with the bowtie in it, the color was a bit off but close

I have the "carbon fiber" LTZ dash bezel in my Tahoe. Years ago I found the part number for it by using a VIN from an 06 LTZ and plugging that into one of the GM parts sites. They were very pricey but in stock. When they became "discontinued" I found a few at a site called Vintage Parts where GM sent most of their old warehouse stock. They were still 3 or 400 bucks then. Once the price dropped I saw 2 were left, so I bit the bullet and bought one for about 150 bucks? I've shown it to people and they rarely guess what it's from.

My father and I acquired one of these as a parts truck, it came from new york and is the most rotted truck I've ever seen with only 130k miles. Such a shame
