The province of Battambang is often overlooked by tourists, which is a shame since it is the third-largest city in Cambodia, bustling with culture and authenticity.
We decided to make a stop here and see for ourselves what the region has to offer and we were pleasantly surprised.
In this video, we want to share a little bit of the recent history of Cambodia. Unknown to many but what we believe is necessary for any traveller to know in order to understand Cambodia and its wonderful people in the present day.
We will share with you some lesser-known tourist spots that are perfect for any day trip, it is a beautiful region full of kind people and filled with a vast and interesting history.
Join us as we explore Battambang and share our firsthand experiences.
We do not want to focus on the dark part of Cambodian history since this is not Cambodia in the present day, but we all need to understand the sacrifices that Cambodians made to become the wonderful and fast-developing country it is today.
That is why we as visitors want to pay our respects to those who lost their lives in the process.
May they rest in peace and smile upon the eternal beauty of Cambodia in the present day.

Battombong is my hometown. I was 8 years old when Khmer Rough came to power. Thank you for reading out loud and showing the world how we Khmer are kind and compassionate after we went through hell and survived. We are resilient people. Thank you for your kinds words.

Battambang is my homeland. If you’re interested about the Khmer Rouge story in Battambang, my suggestion is to visit the reservoir dam water that have been build during the Khmer Rouge too, 1000 and 1000 of life have been lost there building the dam. It’s a popular place in Battambang but not that many tourists know about that place. And my suggestion is to visit the rice fields in Battambang too, it’s the biggest rice fields in Cambodia and the best number one rice in the world, it come from there.

We had the reservoir dam on our itinerary but unfortunately didn't have the time since it was already getting very late and dark. Thank you for sharing all this valuable information, we really appreciate this and feel like we still have to cover a lot in Battambang. We both loved it here and will be back to show all landmarks in more detail. 🙏🙏🇰🇭

We were very surprised by Battambang in a good way. Taking all these trips and discovering the region with a motorcycle is one of the most fun things to do. We are both very happy to hear you like all of our videos, you motivate us to keep creating more videos. Our next one will cover Phnom Penh, we hope to hear from you again! 🙏🙏😊

Those prayer halls are opened during evening meditation around 5.. 6 pm. The best time to visit a temple would be between 9-12 am when the monks and the people living the temple are active. In the afternoons, the monks are typically resting, meditating, or attending classes. If you want.. you can even ask the head monk if you can stay for the night :D

@@sheepandshepherds There is a temple called "Wat Ondaek" translated "Turtle Temple" near Battambang.. maybe an hour by motorcycle near the carved statue of Buddha on the side of the mountain there. There are about a hundred monks there including 50 apprentice monks. It's very active and a very good community. The temple has set up little cabins all over the grounds and you can ask the head monk for a meditation retreat :) The vice abbot is Savuth Vak.. super kind and gentle person and speaks some English. You can tell him his amazing student from America "Chanthorn Peou" sent you over :D They also have daily classes on Buddhism.. but not sure if you can attend those, it was mainly monks when I was there in training.
Also, there is a Cambodian youtuber called "Thyda foods". she would totally be down to collab with you guys on a video.. she cooks amazing khmer and gives you lessons on the ingredients as she does it while introducing you to her way of living there. Hit her up!

Hi there, thanks for your comment! You're totally right. We were highlighting Battambang from a tourist's perspective because we noticed it often gets skipped on itineraries. We had a fantastic time exploring the city, driving around with a motorcycle, and we think other tourists would too! :)
