As someone from port Stephan’s, people ask us all the time about the story like we were there lol.

I heard a possible theory that it could have been an albino whale shark. That of course wouldn’t account for the immense size. It’s such an interesting account and always left me puzzled.

This story always makes me think they were taking the piss out of him. Megladon (an abnormally large one) has gone from ambushing whales to chewing on stringy little lobster pots?

Megladons are long ago extinct. Get over it.

Megalodon was three feet long with one giant tooth. Huge schools of them prowled the sea floor digging up clams. They died-off from bad eyesight.

why would a giant shark take crayfish pots with only a dozen crayfish in them ? most large sharks do not eat lobsters or crabs ....wouldn't a giant shark need to eat giant food like whales?

Some sharks will eat anything. Car tyres, vehicle parts. Something that big would probably bite down on anything. It would smell those crayfish in the pots rather than count them.

Find this hard to believe size differences described. And two more reasons first being they are sailors, the second they are fishermen. Having dedicated my life to both and experience. I have long held my motto " Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." 😂😂

Like many of these things, there would have to be a breeding population. A Extreme size great white is possible…Submarine was supposed to be 30 feet. But a breeding population of an extremely large shark that follow whale migrations isn’t likely to be hidden.

The Greenland shark is rather illusive, if it wasnt for the small local population eating them for hundreds of years, theyd probably be totally ignored. When something can live for 500 years in the deep cold ocean, its not exactly on display. Id suppose it all depends on location, diet and numbers, for the existence of a large animal to remain hidden. As for Meg we have teeth and thats it. We dont know how big it actually was because we're using known shark teeth as a scale reference. It may have been far slimmer and streamlined, had less teeth, it could've been totally different to what we're portraying it to be like. For all we know the Meg could've been some kind of huge sting ray.

Did you hear of the one that got caught up in the nets of a pro fishing boat off Warrnambool, 🤔 around 1970s I think ,believe the boat weighed 7 to 10 tonnes, experienced fishermen estimated it at 30 feet plus ! Great White, it towed the boat in reverse with the engines going flat out 😂 until they had to cut off the nets !! WTF cheers from northern rivers Australia 🇦🇺 😂 ❤❤ 😊

I saw this in 1985 spearfishing off Tomaree - must have been 150 feet long.
I managed to get a spear into it and it dragged me all the way back to Shelly Beach in Manly, my preferred hunting ground.
I cut the rope off the spear, and then, still in my spring suit, got the ferry to Circular Quay and then the train back up to Newcastle to pick my car up.
A day I still vividly remember.

I've seen this monster. June 3rd 1952. I was in a 60ft boat catching food for my pet turtle. I'd just put my stickleback net in the water when I saw it, Twice the length of my boat and weighing at least 27 tonnes. I froze and jabbed it with my net. It looked at me and in an instant it was gone.

You are correct. Due to recent PC concerns, it's been changed to Average Caucasian Shark.
