I gave you a thumbs up, because you are a good teacher for people who want to learn basics , but very important facts about how to handle a knife in a kitchen. May I add to it.. Always having and maintaining a Sharp knife is important for your Safety Believe it or not all these techniques would not work without one . So keep that in mind 🤔☺️
One more piece of advice from a person that sharpens blades. When you have a pile of items cut on the board and you need to slide them to the side to clear space on the board, or slide them onto a plate or bowl. Do not do this with the blade side down. Flip the blade and slide the spine across the cutting board to avoid damaging the fine cutting edge.
This is amazing & helpful. I was facing so much problem in case of cutting carrot cause it rolls over the chopper board and often i cut myself. Thank you for making such a technical video.
Nice concise guide for basic knife skills. Though I winced when you scraped the board with the blade of your knife. Maintaining, and consequently not abusing a knife, is a relevant knife skill as well.
How to determine if your knife is sharp? My technique is to hold the blade (lightly) and at a 45 degree angle on my thumb nail. If it "grabs" it's sharp, if it slides it needs either dressing on a steel or resharpening. Not sure how safe this is but certainly better than running against the skin. Any suggestions?
Try the paper test, it's much safer. Holding a piece of paper up, run your knife across the top. A sharp knife will cut through with no resistance. If it's dull, you'll struggle or the knife will just bend the paper. My knife could have been a little sharper in this video too...needed the paper test ;)
This was excellent :) Thank you for creating such a clear presentation with great visuals and advice!
