@@lacountess well i just googled it for fun.. this might explain it: "Foxes contain a scent/musk gland that gives off a pretty potent musky odor this is called the violet glad, which is located at the base of the tail and used for intra-species signalling and scent marking. Foxes release a musk and especially unpleasant smell from this gland when startled or alarmed."
I've got a Red Fox den under my back yard shed this spring. Have a trail camera set up to watch the activity. I put out food to help Mom out a little. Food is gone every morning. Fun to watch them.
The parents did a GREAT job of supplying food. Successfully raised 10 kits. There are dead rodents and chickens littering the woods near the den. LOTS of food.
I've done my research...there are three correct terms for baby foxes...kits, pups, and cubs. You might want to do your research before commenting on what's right and what isn't.
Kit is FAR AND AWAY the common term for immature foxes. Personally I have never heard them referred to as anything else. The term fits their looks and personalities. Why all the intensity, imperiousness, and freaking EXCLAMATION POINTS!☹😫😖😆
Imagine you are a little fox with supersensitive hearing sense. Because of humans encroaching everywhere, you have to listen to this shit whole day every day. Constant rattle, thuds, rasps, scary dogs never shut up. You need to hunt, you can't hear shit, you can't find your prey. It's fucking tiresome, debilitating, frustrating, it frays your nerves. You want to sleep and you can't. Like this little cub.
This family has been successfully raising families at this location for at least 7 years. I suspect at some level, these noises become just another backround noise. Personally, I'd prefer to capture clips of them with no human-made noises, but this family has chosen to den at the boarder of a very busy area. There is more wilderness that is nearby...but I think they selected this spot due to the plentiful food source my neighbors have brought with them. Chickens and ducks, mainly. I've seen dead ducks and chickens at the den site regularly. I'm honestly surprised these foxes have not been shot by people looking to protect their chickens. :(
