In Rhode Island the water dept makes a big deal out of even plumbers touching the water meter. It's only to be removed by them. I got into a altercation one time with one of those jack asses for removing the meter to tend to the piping in the home. I needed to drain the system at the lowest point and the meter coupling was the lowest point. So, let me understand, we are supposed to just let someone's home flood until you decide to show up?
"Give the old gundy mama" Keep the videos coming Steve , Hows the new truck been ? I bet you dont miss diesel. Looking forward to cooking with Steve videos
I was walking the dog a few years back when I came upon a guy shutting off the water to an old house nobody had lived in for awhile. All I did was say "How ya doin'" to the guy when a geyser of water shot up from the ground. I apologized profusely, telling the guy it was my fault, all I had to do was get near for the valve to break. He laughed fortunately.
When I moved into my house (near Philly), I couldn't find the curb stop anywhere. I called the water co. to come find it, just in case I ever needed it. The found it buried under a ton of dirt/mulch in a bed near the mailbox and added a riser so it wouldn't be buried. Free of charge. Almost makes me not feel so bad giving them hundreds of dollars every year for water.
In 2009, my town changed out the water meters to electronic ones that could be read from outside. When the City attempted to turn my water back on, NOTHING! Valve broke. That is why Steve won't touch 'em.
yes that is how i feel .. and will not touch one unless its a crazy emergecy.. if i brake in i own it .. i always call in the water dept . for 35 or 50 dollars not worth the risk
Saying Hi From Rhode Island 😊. Great videos as usual , when she mentioned that other company , being nice hope she looks around ,it’s out of control in Rhode Island
Yes change the anode in the water heater! DIY will save you a bundle and your heater will last forever. But sure, paying a plumber to come out every time will cost you.
last time i changed my water heater i had to turn the main valve off, i have since added a valve to the cold side that feeds the heater so i can turn just the hot off if needed.
I installed an electric hot water heater and disabled the oil fired burner hot water coil, now water is always the same temperature, no hot to cold water while taking a shower
I would have walked out to the water department guy and asked him for a new meter spud and rubber washers. Hell, you are doing his job for him. Around here the water department is responsible for everything before the meter.
Hello… how I do I watch your videos and you are the best, give me a some advice. The sink in my kitchen was blocked and I tried to uncover it on the house but the part was thrown away and was inside the pipe, please help me. I don’t have much money, I would like to do it myself… I have 3 weeks with this problem. I wash the dishes in the bathroom.. I need help I appreciate it very much 🙏🙏
Until you inevitably break one trying to shut it off, then you'll be calling the water company to do it for you. The last thing you want is to be liable for a broken curb stop.
Cool. I saw your hustle! Shut off, not shut on chaaarge. Always saving the Customa, $! Supporting and defending the Customa! Three point bite interesting! I still don't get it! The handle on the concrete is 3? chow.
Depends on the town. Even if they do allow you to turn it off yourself, it's best to have the water company do it anyway. Those curb stops are highly susceptible to breaking so if it's gonna break, it's best to have someone else break it and not you so you can't be held liable.
Most places i work water departments are nice. If something breaks you just call em they show right up fix it even give you meter washers and what not. But the one city are a bunch of assholes. You gotta go to the tax office fill out an application then they send a work order to the water department then you hope they show up within a day. They give you no parts, they charge OUT THE ASS and god forbid you try to get help on their coffee break. What a joke.
If we call the city they charge $100+ to shut off main water line I have the same tool!( Done it myself)Then we have main water line shut off in the house with a pressure reducing valve (45-80psi) just after that!No water meter in our city Free water!
I had my meter replaced and was shocked that the 1950's meter shut-off valve still worked perfectly. A miracle happened that day.
Thanks Steve! Good to see you and Miss Molly!

It’s the same here in the Southwest. Touching one is offering yourself up for human sacrifice 😂

Good job. Those old valves were tough to undo, and the stress of the water man wanting to turn on the water.

Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice weekend
The customer said "I can be handy but I also can get in trouble" HA HA HA Can't we all.

I still have a gate valve on the main water shut off at my house in CT. Come take a ride Steve.
The truck still sounds good
She’s a talker mama! Nice job Steve.

The new truck handled that long hill without sweating
Plumbers in my town can't touch the street shutoff, only the town. Plus, you break it, you bought it, so they won't even go near those shutoffs.

Good job Steve, I miss the daily shows and sense of humor, but I realize the jobs aren't always there and slow down in the winter.
I love your guys accents it sounds New Yorker, I'm from New Mexico.

Another great video Steve with another satisfied customer! Keep the videos coming 🎉💥💯☝️👍🫵
Curious what they charge to come out and secure the main 🤔
Steve. How about a video showing how you produce your videos.
I do hvac. Have always thought about doing what you do on TH-cam.
last time i changed my water heater i had to turn the main valve off, i have since added a valve to the cold side that feeds the heater so i can turn just the hot off if needed.
I moved recently from a gas water heater to an electric one. Don't even notice a difference in the bills, not really an issue IMHO.
Steve gave her the ole HOW YAHH DOING MAMMA!!!
My house has a shutoff valve before and after the meter.
The one before the meter, is the service side ,one after is the house side
12:16 She's well educated! 240V! Not "220". Steve, what do you think about Hybrid (heat pump) water heaters?
I installed an electric hot water heater and disabled the oil fired burner hot water coil, now water is always the same temperature, no hot to cold water while taking a shower

I figured an old gate valve, but that one didn't look that old. Thx.
HERE WHERE I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA
THE WATER COMPANY
REPLACE THE WATER METER'S
SINCE I REMEMBER
my valve is the same as that new one, yellow handle.

I’ve said it before and say it again, it wouldn’t dare leak with Steve on job, lol.
Here in Louisville, Kentucky we just remove the meter cover and shut the water off ourselves any time. No water company employee will stop me.

Mine is a gate valve and it doesn't completely shut off the water.
Most older houses have gate valves as the main shutoff and they suck. Best to replace them with a ball valve when you can.
Cool. I saw your hustle! Shut off, not shut on chaaarge. Always saving the Customa, $! Supporting and defending the Customa! Three point bite interesting! I still don't get it!
The handle on the concrete is 3? chow.
The wrench has to be slid completely over the pipe til it hits the back of the jaws. Then when you tighten the jaws, there will be 3 points of contact
yeah give it the ole hi you doing.
Nothings more annoying that someone flapping while u are struing to get a job done in a short amount of time
That look like solder ell before valve ,weard.
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again ya’ll. 👍👍
You can’t turn the water off yourself with a curb key there?
Depends on the town. Even if they do allow you to turn it off yourself, it's best to have the water company do it anyway. Those curb stops are highly susceptible to breaking so if it's gonna break, it's best to have someone else break it and not you so you can't be held liable.

she not aleaker now, moma!
When are you going to get back in your back yard Steve.. Time to tinker again
Plumber to a plumber why you over tighten the water meter ? Rubbers in there just need a light snug.
because i dont want a call back ..tight is better then loose
Lady go away and come back when the job is done then you can 100 questions I don't mind.
