  • Let me introduce you to the $100,000 dollar crew in the fifth installment of our New York City Tour! Driver Noel and helper Tony were featured earlier this year in a CNN Money article (link below) spotlighting how much someone could make in the sanitation industry and they were gracious enough to let me tag along for the night.
Crown Container is owned by brothers Jerry and David Antonacci whose family has been in business since 1959. Located in Queen's, their 17 trucks service more than 5000 customers throughout the five boroughs. Crown Container also operates a transfer station which receives recycling and C&D.
Noel and Tony have a dedicated route in Flushing, NY and pull 40 tons nightly on their wet route which mostly consist of heavy restaurant's who sometimes require two collections a night. They drive Crown's newest addition to the fleet, a 2016 Mack Granite Loadmaster Excel rear loader complete with New York City compliant side guards.
My thanks to Noel and Tony for letting me come along and see how trash is really done in New York, you guys are true professionals and a blast to hang out with!

That was an awesome shot from the back of the truck! I can't tell you how many times someone has jumped in my face while filming. Are you taking video? lol...

Thanks man. I was wondering if anyone was going to spot the band. They were a indie band 15 years ago that I doubted anyone would ever recognize them! I miss them too. ;-(

Refuse Truck Media Yeah, I remember when they came to Indy on the Solid State tour with Haste The Day, Underoath, Norma Jean, etc. I miss those days alot. I drive automated and will def get lost in nostalgia on some of the playlists I've made on my Spotify lol. Def enjoy the videos man, never thought I would love a job as much as I do driving these trucks.

If there's one place manual collection will never die, that'd have to by NYC! Love all the piles of bags around the place, even so waste presentation looks overall tidy. He had a good rhythm going from 1:00, but he had to miss one of them haha 4:24 was a ripper, that was some thickness squeezing out the blade - gotta love the spray/exploding danger on these wet waste runs! That looks like a nice modern cab to ride, love the lit up gauges - I heard Bob Seger rocking as well, should've been Night Moves on the radio to suit ;) Love the view of the truck at the very end, looks like a real machine that Mack, beautiful unit. What's the purpose of those side guards exactly, just stops people getting trapped underneath for whatever reason?

Manual collection is dying this Fall for residences that are 1-9 units.

It seems so weird to see carts being collected in NYC... those bag piles and the 3/4 yd bins are what seem to be the most common from the pics and vids i've seen.
