    This is timely. Heading to Japan with my wife and 5 and 7yr old boys in a few months. Anxious about balancing time for family and being present but also being able to keep a creative eye open. Will definitely rewatch this video as time gets closer to prep myself mentally.

    „Survival“ oh man I hear you my friend 😅😊
    Having a 3y + 1y old daughters I’m still in this mode and barely have time to practice my street photography. I was thinking about shooting at night, but sleep skills of them are also poor, where at least the small one still wakes ups every 1 or 2 hours and I want to be at home to support my wife instead of wandering the streets. If they get older I hope i will have more opportunities for steets, but for now they need my support and that’s more then fine - although I wish could be able to shoot film / my Leica M more, since these systems require two hand 😅:).
    Great video about this topic Jack, loved your thoughts about it!

      You’re right in the thick of it right now - I would stay home too! Luckily my daughter is an OK sleeper but things can change anytime. Hope you can find time for you too!

    Have you ever tried editing on an iPad Jack? I find editing on my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil to be so relaxing.
    Pop my AirPods Max on - noise cancellation - turn on some relaxing music and plug my a7cr directly into my iPad with usb c and slowly do my edits in Lightroom.
    I find it to be a much less anxious and more casual process than being at my desk on my pc or MacBook Pro and now look forward to it as a way to sort of unwind from the stimulation of being out and about.

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like a dream Phil! I can’t get the file storage and organisation to work the way I like it. Do you upload to the cloud and sync to the PC later?

    • @phillmeredith

      @@BokehTherapy I’ve set up iCloud folders which all my devices have access to. I edit in Lightroom, export to iCloud shared folder and use this for just personal viewing and sharing with family etc.
      Lightroom cloud keeps backups of the raws with edits in case I ever want to revisit an image, iCloud keeps backup of the jpegs with edits and then I store the original unedited raw and jpeg on an external drive before wiping the sd card.

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will need to try this work flow out. Right now I edit all my raw files off an external ssd which means iPad editing is out of the question. Apparently external drives are finally going to work better on the new iPadOS. Thanks for the tips! Are you interested in the new IPadPros? The hardware is already so good I haven’t update my iPads in years

      @@BokehTherapy I’m considering getting the new iPad Pro purely for the oled display given I edit outside quite a bit but gonna wait to try it in the Apple Store on wed. File management is surprisingly good now iPads. I believe they’re going to improve it further this year.

    I learned my lesson not too long ago, I took 3 cameras 4 lenses a bunch of film with me. I ended up only using zf 24-70 and my iPhone. As a dad taking a young toddler, means I’m the full time baggage handler and part time photographer. Next year I will only bring 1 camera and 1 lens

    I don't like it when I click.your next video so quickly I forget to leave a comment here. It's true that daddy duties take over everything else. We brought our boy to Japan on his 1st birthday and though it was nice to be there, I had to carry a lot more things (diaper bag, baby food, stroller and more) I didn't enjoy capturing anything much. Our recent trip to hokkaido was much better as both kids have grown up already and can listen (most times) so they can look at me and smile at the camera. I'm thinking of one camera to Melbourne/gc/sydney this end may. Would the M9 be sufficient? Wondering if I should bring film camera too

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am impressed that you can shoot rangefinders with kids while travelling! The M9 sounds fantastic, especially if your kids hold still (mine won’t!). What film cameras do you have? I have friends who love scouting out vintage M6s on eBay and it can share the same lenses. Let me know how your next trip goes, sounds amazing!

    • @ezekielkokspeaks
      @ezekielkokspeaks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BokehTherapy just the ugly duckling m5. It's a beautiful camera that no one wants. I also have a 500cm for medium format. Beautiful negatives. They will only stay still for a few seconds, that's why I'm considering a newer body that might capture them even if they move all the time. Should I sell the m9 n get the ZF?

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mmm the Zf is a great camera. Why don’t you try it out at your local camera store first? Very different shooting experience from the M9, I love the rangefinder experience more than autofocus myself

    Thank you! This is actually a perfectly timed video for me! While I don't have kids yet, I am worried about the same topic as the main family memory keeper. Do you also take video moments with your family? I have resigned to using action cameras and 360* cameras for some video moments considering how spontaneous kids can be and the setup needed for the mirrorless cameras.

    • @wygan5736
      @wygan5736 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Take a look at the DJI Pocket 3 - it is pocketable, stabilized with gimbal, and powers up almost instantly, making it ready to shoot anytime.

    • @Alakazam2047
      @Alakazam2047 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@wygan5736 Yep! I have that and the Insta360 X4 and love the combo alongside my mirrorless cameras! It took a lot of trial and error to get the idea setup.

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use the DJI Osmo pocket 3 for video exclusively - the footage looks amazing. I try to keep family moments to photos, because editing videos takes too much time. I think a video made up of many photos of your kids as they grow up is just as powerful. Thank you so much for watching, more content to come!

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Film convert nitrate just released a color grading profile for the Osmo pocket 3. Makes film emulations for the footage very quick and easy

    • @Alakazam2047
      @Alakazam2047 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BokehTherapy Thank you. I'm glad a product like the Pocket 3 exists now. Do you consider an iPad as a potential replacement for your laptop needs on family trips? I too much prefer a full computer but for simple backups of photos to SSDs or basic photo editing I am debating whether it is viable. Plus not having to carry extra chargers with appropriate wattage is a nice bonus.

      Glad it works for your workflow! I haven’t fine tuned iPad software to work for my use case that seamlessly yet; just prefer the control of the laptop overall still. Wish I could make the tablet editing experience work for me!
