I have both ipad mini 6 and kindle paperwhite 10th Gen. Tried reading on ipad mini since I left my kindle when travelling for a week. I can't read for longer hours, besides that it hurts my eyes, I get easily distracted. The kindle is lighter than the ipad mini, it's easier to read lying down than holding the ipad mini. Also take note on the battery. My kindle last me weeks even month of reading. While in ipad you need to charge everyday (depends on your use). I used my ipad mini for 2 hrs of reading (100% to 70%)

I wouldn’t do it once I’m into a book, but like, it’s rlly hard to get past the initial barker of ‘let’s see what’s going on on discord, or I’ve not read the news since lunch time’ and get side traced for hours

I’ve been playing around with both tablets and e-readers for years. A smaller iPad is the best choice for me because it’s more versatile. My favorite is the 11 inch iPad Pro from 2018. I managed to get a 1TB device brand new at a major discount. It’s my go-to device, but I also have a Kindle Oasis. The Oasis is a bit overkill for my needs, but it’s great as a pure e-reader.

This is my friend's second Kindle. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.

Try reading in the sun with an iPad. E-ink displays are just a different technology that can't be compared to LCD or OLED. They reflect ambient light like paper and only use energy to change the screen. If you already have the tablet and never read outside, keep the tablet, otherwise get an e-reader.

    • @garydomaz1849

A simple matte screen protector solves this. Regardless, all screens reflect light unless it’s an actual book.

@@garydomaz1849 You have never used an e-ink display. The reflected light makes it easier to see, rather than harder, just like on real paper. A matte coating on an LCD-screen only blurs the reflection, but it's still impossible to use if the surroundings are too bright.

I'm a fan of the ipad mini as an e-reader. It's funny to that we focus so much on reading the ipad in the sun. I've read hundreds of books over many years on the ipad and this is never an issue for me. Because you do what humans do, and you angle the ipad or your body position until you can read easily. The ipad really is a no-brainer because it, and other tablets, offer so much more than e-readers.

The video was nicely done. I’ve read books on a Kindle Paperwhite for a few years since 2018. It’s screen is perfect for me and no distractions. When I go to a lake near my house to sit on the beach, look at the water, and lose myself in a book, it’s Kindle all the way. I don’t have to worry about sun glare on the screen, getting it wet or damaged by tossing it it in my beach bag. Yes I do have a case on it which helps. My first point is that for reading it’s best to use a device whose sole purpose is to read.
Faiz made my last point. For anything else I need it’s smartphone all the way. I have tried to read on my older iPad Pro but the device is too big and bright to me for just text. Comics and other reading formats it’s fine.
    Thanks Faiz!

I can't believe how big a fan I've become of the iPad, a bit of hardware I thought I'd never own or need. It's not quite the future I envisioned as a kid, but the fact that I can (and do ) carry a copy of a fourth of the books I own with me at all times, and can access books I want in a minute is amazing. I may get a dedicated reader for just that, but the fact that some books, particularly books for educational purposes have audio files makes iPad the winner for me.

  • @1anre
    @1anre ปีที่แล้ว +5

Currently stuck at this point too.
Monetarily iPad mini 6 I’m considering is x3 the price of the paperwhite 5 but it’s just that versatility it brings that draws me to it.
Have an iPhone already, still trying to see any other core justification to get the kindle as I started getting into audiobooks a lot of late that I buy from the apple book store but I’m not sure how I’d be able to log into my account & listen to it on the kindle.

Great video, although I totally disagree. My choice is either Kindle ereader or Amazon Fire tablet. Why? Because in my opinion, the iPad is way too expensive. I paid $80 for a Fire HD 8 and it does everything I need. And, when I want to listen to a story, I can have Alexa read to me, or turn on Speech Recognition and have the Fire read to me. Plus, I listen to audiobooks on it. I also play games, watch movies, look at email, oh, and watch TH-cam videos. Just my thoughts!

Just wanted to point out that Alexa is available for the iPad and so you can also have her read the books on the iPad. I have had the fire tablets in the past and they worked really well for me. But there are multiple reasons why I now prefer my iPad nine. First of all I really wanted a large screen for reading books. I’ve gotten tired of constantly turning pages. Plus I wanted a tablet that I can do my daily word, processing and spreadsheet work and the fire tablets just are not powerful enough for that.

I love your video, Faiz. I’ve been using kindles for many years, last being the Oasis. I am buying a couple of ipads pro (changing to Apple ecosystem) and will see how I read on it. Surprisingly, the XDR screen of the Mac pro is extremely gentle with my eyes (reading kindle books). For that reason I will try the 12.9 ipad: I prioritize screen amenability over portability. Crazy, huh?
In any case I already use a kindle and will try the ipad world. When the mini has XDR or AMOLED display in the future… then the kindle may be dead to me… or maybe after a few months the nostalgia of the e-ink will point its true value against other displays… but we have more options every year!
I commend you for your videos and as a fellow reader I appreciate how you are helping anyone right now on the verge of a purchasing decision to choose better. Personal experience at the end is the last test, but your informed opinions should be always welcomed.

Great review, I disagree on the durability side. Having both in many trips, the screen of an e-reader is its weakest point; a small stone can make the screen unusable if it is hit in the right place. The Ipad screen is much more resilient.

Your video was most helpful and saved me about $300 since I won't be buying a Kindle but instead using my Ipad. Congrats for your video! Sad thing is when you are buying an Ipad, the Apple people don't inform you about all its features. Reading on e-ink is really different. I don't hate reading on an OLEd phone with white text on black.... Not overly bright, with a high refresh rate. Some people are so sensitive to screens.... That even that isn't a totally pleasant experience for long periods.

I am a mathematician and data scientist. Technical books often won’t load into an e-reader. Books with color graphics come out in shades of gray on an e-reader (if they load into the device). Magazines frequently look lousy on a e-reader. Pdf’s won’t load into an e-reader. So, for these reasons, an e-reader doesn’t cut it.
An iPad is extremely versatile and the above issues are solved.
Text-only books (with no equations) look great on an e-reader, and this is how I use one.

iPad mini is great for reading magazines, news articles, and browsing the web. But I definitely gravitate to my Kindle for that hour or two of a good book. The iPad mini is great for occasional book reading in the Kindle app (whispersync is amazing) but I wouldn’t want to read for anymore than 30 minutes on the iPads display. The best thing to read a book is: A BOOK itself... Secondly, You could choose an Ink ebook reader. Ipad is not good to read at all sorry about. If you want a device not designed to read, go and buy a MacBook Air/pro. The screen light is much comfortable than Ipad or any other tablet available...

Are the books all yours? Did you actually read them? If so, you're quite the reader because they're different genres

326 pixel density of the ipad mini kicks the rest of the ipads, kindle, and amazon fire hd10 out of the water. He's wrong about numerous things. He claimed an e-reader (such as kindle) can't read pdf's. LOL. PDF's can be imported into one's kindle. Also, he said reading an ipad at night can be difficult on the eyes, being too bright. Not if one chooses inverted mode and adjust the then white text against a nicely dark background. It's concerning that reviewers like him didn't do their homework fully, and therefore misinform viewers.
