    I honestly believe snakes have some sort of memory. I spent about a year rehabilitating a “problem” ball python to get her to be a good eater and friendly so I could rehome her. I thought I found the perfect home for her because the woman had three other ball pythons and was sending me update pictures for a while. A couple weeks ago I walked into a local reptile shop just because I was in the area and she was there. Turns out the woman’s husband said it was him or the snakes and she dumped them all at the pet store. I asked to hold her to make sure it was her and she immediately uncurled and snuggled up to my neck how she normally did when I had her. The workers said in all the time they had her she’s NEVER been that comfortable with anyone. I ended up working with them to lower the price as much as possible and I purchased her back. Now she’s home and as hungry as ever. Not shy at all like the workers described her. I have to believe she remembers being comfortable with me and knows she’s safe.

      @AuroraExotics 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sarahjayne1620 I'm glad you asked! Sonoran boas are native to Mexico and males get 5 ft, maybe 6 ft for a really big one. The Tarahumera locality of the Sonoran boas are the absolute smallest of the larger boa species and are usually not more than 5ft. Boas are thinner bodied than ball pythons so they are overall smaller snakes at the same length. There are a few island localities as well that stay pretty small, and most Central American boas are also considered dwarfs (Nicaragua/Costa Rica/etc). The females can still see 7 ft or more, but males stay small if fed properly. :)

    Rosie seems like such a sweetheart 🐍❤
    I was thinking, since the classroom she lived in for 20 years was always around so many people, perhaps she was desensitized to humans a little bit? I'm sure people came up to the enclosure to say hi, and having so many people always being around, she had to have noticed the humans, right? I'm assuming they didn't hurt her or anything, just threw in food every so often lol.
    Idk maybe I'm overanalyzing it, but I can see the constant flow of humans having an effect on her. Love that lil Rosie ❤
    Also don't underestimate what you've done for her!!! I'm sure the reason why she's so snuggly and nice is because she knows you helped her, you got her a nice warm enclosure, you clean it, you feed her yourself instead of tossing in meals, there's no way she hasn't noticed those things.

    I have such a soft spot for boas. I took in a neglected one with a lot of medical issues and despite everything she was so calm and so easy to handle. Makes me so happy to see someone giving them such an amazing chance. I miss my big boa and wish I could have had more time with her, but after a year I adopted a juvenile boa and man did I miss them. Didn’t mean to ramble! TLDR: so happy this noodle has a good home, I love boas.

    I got a ball python from a local reptile rescue and she has grown a foot in the 4yrs I have had her. Very docile and has taken well to live feeding.She is not keen on frozen thawed food and the reason I got her so cheap was she was a problem feeder. When hungry she nails them in seconds. Lightning fast. I love snakes and always wanted a larger snake. She is about 4-1/2 feet now.

    The average lifespan of a captive kept Boa Constrictor is 20-30 years. It's actually impressive that she lived as long and stayed as healthy as she did living in the trash conditions she was at the school. She could live another year or another decade, but it's great you've helped her this much and she's come this far. It was great meeting you at Repti-Con and I appreciate you giving my brother advice about his Savannah Monitor. He's told me that it's already showing signs of improvement. Your videos are awesome, keep up the great work!

    I rescued my lizard from outside he was starving and had an injury on his tail that was somewhat recent when I found him. I decided I’d try to take him outside and he lost his shit he did this for like a year I’d try every few months so I eventually stopped and then about a year after that I tried again and he seemed alright being outside. I think these animals for have memories of that shit cause he had like straight up ptsd when I brought him out there he was getting really puffed up and got a black beard had his mouth open ready to attack. I felt bad for him I think these animals can really remember all that shit that happened to them.

    I commend you for taking her in. She looks amazing. She's come a long way. I had a reptile rescue when I lived in Virginia. I ended up being the go to for snakes mostly from our local animal control and game wardens. Most came from apartments where people were evicted or just left. Leaving their animals behind. Some still roaming free in bedrooms, no food, no water, literally some on the verge of death. Anyway, great job, you're definitely a natural for this hobby. You have an knack like old school keepers have. Same mentality. Keep being yourself and don't conform to today's so called enthusiast. Take advice etc., in stride. You're do a great job, and again, absolutely life saving decision you made. She's going to be here when you're an old guy, lol.

    No way would I be allowed, my dad thinks 3ft is a massive snake.

    • @beapis5266
      @beapis5266 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Chaotic Phoenixx Just fyi, red tails are far harder care wise. Theyre more sensitive to care mistakes, more likely to regurge and they get larger. Bci would be better, theyre smaller and easier. Also! There are dwarf locals like tarahumara that max out about 5 feet. Crawl cay and cay caulker are other dwarf locals
      edit: Also! In case you’re in to morphs, bcc (red tails) and the bci locals dont have morphs. (Hogg islands have one but they were so mixed up that you’ll most likely never find a pure hogg morph) If it says “red tail hypo” it’s mislabled, cuz thats a bci, lol.

    • @kiroropupper3914

      @@beapis5266 BCI and BCC are now considered completely separate species. They are now boa Imperator (BI) and boa Constrictor (BC). Honestly, both can be great starter snakes if you know what to expect in the future and are prepared for their current and eventual care needs. I have a boa and she is a big sweet heart ❤️ Honestly, my ball python has been more of a challenge than she has.

      But if a BCI would be a plesant Boa to have, i dont see why i couldnt get one istead.
      Red Tails just catch my attention with how pretty they are.

    • @beapis5266
      @beapis5266 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kiroro pupper Yeah! I know haha, I’ve been switching between using the old terminology and the new, I’ve been using bcc and bci because people seem to recognize it a bit more :> thank you!

    • @kiroropupper3914
      @kiroropupper3914 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phoenixx8963 also, most boas sold as "red tail boa" are a mutt boa. People usually cross breed the boa species for easier marketing. They can also look so similar to one another that it's almost impossible to be correct by simply a visual standpoint ESPECIALLY if it's a mixed boa. My advice would be to expect a boa that reaches 8ft but to be prepared for a boa that reaches 13.
