you took a 5 hour process and made it 5 minutes for this video! if only it was that quick 😂 i worked on a Samoyad that had not been groomed in a year... matted undercoat on every inch of his body, did have to resort to shaving behind just the ears. 6 hours of work yesterday, he got so tired he couldnt go any longer and now for round 2 today! final deshed and trim up
Omg, that is a lot of work! And how smart to break it up into two sessions, for the dog and for you! 💕 Bela, the Samoyed in the video, sees me every 2 months, so her complete session is 1.5-2 hours max. The owner says the breeder made her sign a grooming contract b4 selling them the puppy, which I am v grateful for! Let's hope the owner of your Samoyed realizes the proper schedule from now on. @GinasGrooming thats awesome! i wish that grooming contracts were required for all breeders! Yes- from now on Snow will get monthly grooms so he wont have to go through hours of brushing and his coat will be healthy. Your video helped me graciously with the process of blow dry and brush at the same time.. the first Samoyad i have done. many groomers turn down Samoyads or will only shave the dog! 😵💫 although the process is hours when undercoat gets built up, it still can be done without shaving the entire coat... thats hoping the Samoyad tolerates haha! thanks for sharing your skill!
Wow that was impressive! We have a 5mo old sammy and she HATES the dryer. This girl looks so chill! Any tips there?
Hi @infinitychamber, thanks 4 joining! Congrats on the new puppy! 💕 Yup, puppies are often scared of the dryer, you are not alone! But in the case of a Samoyed, a force dryer is one of your best deshedding tools, so you do want to get there with her eventually. If u have a stand dryer that u can use from a distance while brushing and then reward (or have a buddy hold a dryer farther away), that's usually step 1, with the next step introducing gentle air with a hose in parts where she seems better (usually rear end)... and then reward, gradually increasing power. Have hope, most doggos, esp big breeds, don't even blink an eye once they get used to the dryer (in fact they like it!) You'll do great, may just take a little time. Good luck and thanks! 🙏😊

For those who don’t know Samoyeds, when she is relaxed she has the smile and when a bit worried closes her mouth. If she was extremely unhappy the mouth would be set more firmly.

I dont use shampoos anymore. I find it strips all the natural oils from the coats. I use a kiddie pool and use plain water from a hose as playtime. Unless they get into some nastiness, water alone will remove all dirt.
Hi T C, it sounds like you've been using the wrong shampoo! I've treated countless skin and coat issues with the right quality shampoo and solutions. And keeping a coat clean also repels parasites, not to mention generally promotes more pleasant cohabitation in our homes! I say give shampoo another try, but make sure it's of a premium quality! Thanks!
Same. We only bathe with shampoo 3-4 times a year. I'm sure it also varies by breed/coat type
I have a japanese spitz and have been told to avoid washing. Dirt just falls off when he’s dry. :)
@@mirawenya same...dirt falls right off. His thick double coat protects his skin and keeps him clean. He doesn't ever stink until close to 4 months without a bath or he finds deer poop 💩 That's why we only wash about 3 times a year. long-haired thick double coated dogs don't do well with frequent washing.

Yes they do have a "teflon" coat and dirt does just fall off once dry but when you are bathing them it's not JUST the fur you are washing/cleaning but the skin and you are removing as much of the undercoat as possible, especially around spring/summer time
Who ever told you that information is incorrect
The other thing you should be addressing is fleas, so your shampoo should kill them also
I've heard you should never use a furminator on a samoyed. Not sure how true that is
Hi @Rollipollipotamus! I can certainly see why people would say that since it shouldn't be used for any longer parts of the coat, for sure! I find it helpful in the shorter spots, like the shoulder, top of head, etc. And I'm sure show Samoyed coats are handled with many more rules than for our pets; masters who specialize in a breed can get incredibly deep, while us general-breed groomers have to be proficient with over a hundred breeds. I will say that I have not seen any damage from the furminator, considering it is used in the right spots. Hope that helps, and thanks for contributing! 😊
Furminator has a grooming rake with rotating pins that is much better, because this other one can cut the guard hairs, which you don't want to do.
