I'd like to write an inspiration story too. About how my LEGAL son graduated at the top of his class and was two points away from a perfect MCAT score (in the 99.5 percentile of all U.S.) but didn't get afforded the luxury of going to Harvard Med or even Berkeley as an undergrad. How he worked three jobs while going to school and now has to work in medical school all to pay for getting his dream. (Where's his "dream act"?). How the "diversity" kids at his med school get big scholarships with a 28 on an MCAT, a score that wouldn't even get him entrance let alone the ZERO financial aid he is getting. I'd like to write the inspiration story of how he saw 3rd and 4th generation Mexican kids living next door to us in our neighborhood get full-ride scholarships with half the SAT score as his. How we had to pay the "scholarships" for the Mexican kids on his soccer team that had nicer houses and cars than we did. I don't take anything away from this Q guy because even though he wears his illegal citizenship or breaking of the law as a badge of courage, he still had to do some work in school after walking down the "free" path that was paved for him. The platitudes & quotes from Roosevelt, Lombardi, et.al., along with the correlation of neurosurgery to sitting in an abandoned combine tractor and imagining how that works..... (whew...) - was just a little much however. No, I know it is difficult getting through school and living out your dream, but I think it is much more of an inspirational story if you have to do it while being discriminated against by a quota system and financially - coming from a white, middle-class family. All this after working hard and beating almost everyone's score in school and on entrance exams. And having your parents sacrifice by having to pay their kid's healthcare, schooling, lunches, phones, of course taxes and yes college.

Normally you complete undergrad and then go to med school. Did he apply to Berkeley undergrad with his MCAT? that will be weird. Wouldn't he need SAT for that? was his SAT also near perfect?
+Kofi Adutwum : hmm, cool to lie. Nice response. There are several minorities getting into med school today with a 28 on the MCAT. You ask questions that proves you don't know what you're talking about and you mispell words. You might want to check your facts, but I understand - when you can't think of anything intelligent to say, you just throw out blatant accusations that shows ignorant hatred.

I think it is good that you got that impression from the video, but if you break down the content and what he spends his time talking about - it's not about the connection with the people. It would be nice if you could go back and re-listen. He spends at most 30 seconds talking about a mentor and a role model after he got into med school. Look - I'm happy for the guy and glad that he made it. Hopefully he can be a role model and help others. It is strictly my opinion that he spends too much time talking about himself "determination, dedication, discipline, never giving up, etc." like HE did it all. He goes on and on - and again, in my opinion, makes ludicrous, braggadocious analogies about fixing the roof on a camper (fixing things not working) that was the early training that prepared him to be a brain surgeon; navigating cotton fields - helping him navigate the brain. Quoting Roosevelt, Lombardi, Churchill, etc. I think it's all good stuff and am happy for him, but... to make a video and brag about yourself like you're something special - means he is a pretty shallow, insecure person. And "pride will go before a fall". There are a lot of people out there that work hard and never give up, especially minorities. You don't see their bragging video on line. Maybe this guy should spend more time helping others and less time thinking of how great he is.
