    To those saying "The chain-link fencing was useless" .... It actually did it's job. The chain-link fencing was there to prevent blast projectiles from flying off in various directions. It kept the blast material compact with minimal escape and guided the rubble safely down the hillside.

    • @rickseifert5139
      @rickseifert5139 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We use chain link heavy duty mesh underground in areas where the rock mass wants to play a game of " squash " . It does it's job for the applications .

    • @EzeePosseTV
      @EzeePosseTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you be amazed how strong chain-link mesh can be. lol

  • @bullzeyez3236
    @bullzeyez3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    The chain link is to stop pieces of rock from rifleing out from the
    blast at a high velocity. It is not there to stop anything from falling
    with gravity. Without the fence , the initial blast can send small
    pieces faster than bullets towards unwanted targets. Usually in more
    horizontal blasts , large mats made of tires are used.

    We have a rock wall along a stretch of highway, thy attach these chain blankets to direct any falling rock, works quite well. I thought they were a joke at first. There are now several nasty rocks at the bottom that would have made it to the road. Had no idea, pretty cool

    • @Don.Challenger
      @Don.Challenger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, to the left and right from the camera's point of view there are what seems just as hazardous/precarious outcroppings, it would be interesting to have had a drone survey of that general area to establish why that one was chosen when it appears from the last section - the aftermath - that a river, a trail - on our side of the water course - and fields were seemingly the only things in direct jeopardy (was it fear the entire outcrop threatened to dam the river - it seems there is a plenty big enough flood plain that would have to be blocked off - it would just flow around even that blockage). Obviously, some civil engineering rationale that isn't documented here explains it. Here men are but ants is another way to interpret it.

    • @crygo974
      @crygo974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, as you can see the fracture from which the block detached was already present, the explosion is just a 'push' to make fall the unstable block. Rocks in general have a very high shear stress resistance if there's no other fractures or eventual cracks that could allow water infiltration

      Alana 10 years ago this rock was going to fall. This crew after many years of discussion decided to blow it up. No mother nature. God created. He gave this world to man. Man is a mess until he returns to God. Believe on the Son Jesus and the blood he shed after a good look at sins you comitted to put him on the cross, your sins were forgiven there. His death was yours, as was his burial yours and his resurrectionas well.The Holy Spirit is ready to baptise you into Jesus and seal you for all eternity. Just believe there are no works of any kind.

    What was the point of going to all that effort to mitigate a rockfall when there is a large river directly below and very low to no risk of damage or injury should that rock mass have naturally collapsed.

      Look it up: 45°37'46"N 7°44'10"E
      On Google Earth the traces of the rockfall are still there.
      There is a road (SS26) between the river and the Slope. I don't know whether it was there before or was to be built back then. In any case, an unstable rock would have been a risk.

      A risk to what?!!! By that logic, spend a lifetime, blow the whole mountain up to take it all down. The whole damned mountain is a risk then.

      Look at 07:29 - You can see the road for 2-3 seconds. At 07:37 you see the road's broken guardrail.

      This is a big problem of today's society. People who knows nothing of this science, nothing of this place, nothing of the reasons, don't bother to do any research (as others did) but yet expresses technical judgements, and even complains.
      Do your research before opening your mouth. Just ask for answers!

    The Raiders of the Lost Ark theme was a nice touch. Is it possible this is simply a case of extreme mining? I'm sure it's been explained in the comments but the language barriers and the moronic comments in English aren't making it easy to get answers.

      The rock mass loomed over an important roadway that links two cities, so it had to be removed =)

    The chain link netting was a waste of time.

    • @bullzeyez3236
      @bullzeyez3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chain link is to stop pieces of rock from rifleing out from the blast at a high velocity. It is not there to stop anything from falling with gravity. Without the fence , the initial blast can send small pieces faster than bullets towards unwanted targets. Usually in more horizontal blasts , large mats made of tires are used.

      @@bullzeyez3236 I am familiar with flyrock, I just wonder why it was seen as a problem in what looks like an uninhabited area. Are there structures nearby?

    • @bullzeyez3236
      @bullzeyez3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josephastier7421 It's hard to say if there are any structures as the cameras never pan in that direction. I do see a road just below. I have have done quarry shots with an 80 foot face , we don't use mats on the vertical face and I have seen bowling ball sized rocks travel 1/4 of a mile. Perhaps they just wanted to keep the road clear. I also just noticed the river at the end of the video. It's possible they were trying to slow down the flow of the debris from filling up the flow of the river.Although some large pieces made it in.
