    This reminds me of another sinking that happened in South Korea when a ferry carrying high school/college age students on a day trip to the island of Jeju just off the southern coast. The ship's crew were just as incompetent and the captain just as corrupt, if not more so...because the difference between the two is that only 32 passengers died on the Costa Concordia, on the ferry to Jeju, they lost just about everyone, I think. And all because the kids actually listened to the crew when they were told to stay in their rooms. They didn't try to leave. Also, they were texting their parents and loved ones back on land goodbye. It was a horrific tragedy. It's said that particular ferry was overloaded and wasn't built to handle the kind of weight that the South Korean crew were putting on it. So, it basically would have fallen apart sooner or later. The captain and what remained of the crew were put through the ringer in the press and in court. Too many kids were killed for them to get away with murder.

    It always confuses me how the engines don't have waterproof rooms or that the emergency generator doesn't have a waterproof room, and how the black box on the ship did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do.

    • @vaspeter2600
      @vaspeter2600 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I mean, I imagine the engine and generator rooms were protected but you can only do so much against massive physical force.

      @mr.kittysavestheworld695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      They ARE in waterproof rooms, the rooms are not "crashing into rocks at 16 knots" proof.

    • @YukoValis
      @YukoValis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Mr Kitty here tells it right. There is no such thing as water proof when you hit a rock. Now what you SHOULD be upset over is that they place the generator room on the same level as the engines. This only really happens on cruise ships because they want extra customer rooms. The Generator room should be a floor above so the water won't touch it.

    So small note about the helmsmen. Indonesia is massive 14th largest country over all so there are a lot of places you can disappear and Jakarta's one of the best due to just how many people there are. In sort if you don't want to be found you will be not be found that and the Italians didn't look very hard in the first place. As an aside Internet Historian did track him down, it just wasn't very relevant to the narrative so they left it out.

They probably had multiple people, equipment, or some sort of assistance to hang it up. Underwater everything is different. theres nothing keeping that bell from pulling people right down with it because its not buoyant it will sink. You and someone else cant just lift with your legs and try to lift it. Because now nothing your body can do underwater will be able to stop the weight of the bell from just sinking. You cant lift with your legs and move it the second you get away from the ship.

      OK, so the thing sinks. So two questions:
      *Do humans have legs, and
      *Is the there a solid surface when you run out of water.
      Seriously, you can just carry the thing and have it weigh you down, this isn't difficult. Get it far away enough, tie it to a block and tackle set on the surface and pull it up.

    The looting was disrespectful as hell. I don’t mind the looting from the ship itself (the money at the casino, the jewelry and whatnot) but going inside people’s cabins and stealing their stuff?? Yeah… no. Those items could have been owned by the people that died and/or their family members. There is a reason why ships that sink and people have died in it, become illegal to explore (unless its for educational purposes) and are protected by law.

    While lying to the passengers was not good, i do understand why they did it, panicked passengers wouldn't have helped the situation at all.

      The general problem is that lying to the passengers will remove the crew's credibility. When the jig is up, the passengers are less likely to listen to them once they've realized that the crew hasn't been truthful. Wee bit of short term gain, lots of long term damage.

    I haven't watched this video but the title threw me off. Is this a video about how much the shipwrecked Costa Concordia cost or is this an American historian who doesn't know that the ship was actually called the Costa Concordia and not The Cost of Concordia...??!

    I’m 5 mins into video and I was finding it hard to follow the story with the tiny screen and the nice lady interrupting all the time then I discovered you can view the entire video without interruptions on Internet historians channel!
