Well we had anyways. Now there's just chavs and that's nothing to be proud of. Personally, I feel the death of the last real, home grown British subculture was probably the Madchester scene which for the most part had fizzled out over thirty years ago. And if we're being honest, even it was nothing compared to the groups we had from the 50s to the 70s. Now we just live in a huge, one single, global culture and to honest I think it sucks. Sure, we have gained some things, for one there's a wealth of knowledge out there now, you can find anything you want to know or buy online.. you didn't have to go 150 miles by train to get the clothes or boots you want, you can order them and have them here in the post the next day.. but on the other hand we have lost so much. Love to see the old school generation still dressing up and keeping the style alive. Fashion just for fashion means nothing, but some movements comes with certain fashions that we abandon when we grow to fit in. I love ska but I'm more into metal and try to do my part to keep my community's fashion alive. Things like this are not aprecciated until time passes.

SKA FASHION, MUSIC & DANCE [10:09] The energetic, stylish boy wearing yellow braces and bleached denim dances a modified dub-step shuffle that is hypnotic, entrancing and rhythmic. Ska is fast dance music that became known to the world in the late ‘50s. It’s known for combining Jamaican mento rhythms with American rhythm and blues. And, it uses jazzy instruments like trumpets, trombones, and saxophones to give the mento vibes. The guitar is also one of the main instruments of ska. The songs of this genre have frequent jumpy rhythms, and the lyrics are more often than not talking about local issues.
Reminds me of the late 70's eary 80's at the youth disco's. At my high school there was a group of about 20 skins and the same mods and punks that walked round the school with their gear on, skins with the drainpipe turn up jeans, braces, punks with the coloured hair, there was 18 hole DM's and piercings in every part of the head and mods with the parkers with the targets on the back. Sometimes they'd have a row and as a first year at high school it was a real eye opener, that said most of the time everyone got on, there were fights everyday but I loved my school days and it was a great era for music, better than today's load a shite
Absolutely love your comment mate you described my school days down to a tee the best days of my life great music and styles so much better than today’s shite ....I’d buy you a pint 👍🏻
Of course the checkerboard, associated with ska, came about in the late 70's early 80's with Jerry Dammers, of The Specials, and the Two Tone era. It's strange how nobody is bringing up The Specials

Always remember the skinheads being the last to get changed after PE, lacing up the doc Martins took time. Especially as an arms race broke out over the number of lace holes you had on your DMs.
When I was 16 in the early 70s I had my waist length hair cut off, dyed and finished off with a razor...my mom and dad went berserk, and grounded me for a month, they also stopped talking to me at work cos I lowered the tone of the office, they wouldn't get away with that today....we all laughed about it years later...Such memories...
😆😆. That brought back memories for me 🙌🏻... First skinhead I had I told my mum the barber miss heard me and cut it too short 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Didn't believe me 🤣got Kept in for a few weeks and the silent treatment too... 🤣🤣. Try looney tunes.... If you've not heard of them 👍🏻
I love it! The 80's guys in the back, getting chubby and a little slow, the younger guys in the middle, going strong, but that little guy in the front had them all beat! 😅

I can remember in my younger days executing various dance steps such as the skank , the mosh pit , the stage dive , the slam dance , and also being very adept at various moves such as head bopping and just getting into a worked up state complete with all kinds of horseplay , let me just include that in my day I was always known as one of the more rowdy and just generally unruly type characters at the majority of the concerts , bars , clubs , house parties and also just when music was being played in any medium up to and including just whistling and snapping my fingers ... of course my consumption of alcoholic beverages was at an all time high and I could afford the premiums . And also I was really good at just what many call or speak of as carousing ..
This looks like a great night and big up all the people on the stage, but no one is doing the moonstomp I remember from the early eighties. Do people still do it ? Holding your braces and sort of stepping two to the left and two to the right.
I'm nearly 67 and one of the original era of skinheads from the late 60s still love the music.
