    Just a suggestion for whenever you are working on or near the water, rig up some sort of pouch harness thing so you can put tools or parts inside and not have to worry about loosing them in the water.
    Once you take a part off, immediately put it into the pouch. The pouch set up can either hang off the barge railing well within reach or it can be a harness set up that you wear

      Now that is a really great idea! Common sense thinking can save so much unnecessary 'clean up' after the fact. Thank you for your great comment! 💡

    Well don't feel bad about dropping the drive sleeve. Those use to be press fit in the props and jo one knows why Merc didn't fix those in. You aren't the first to drop one. You should invest in a prop wrench. They really make changing props easier. You can get them at Canadian tire.

      I just use a trusty old "several 16ths" (crescent) wrench for the job. Works well for me. Even so, we frequent Canadian Tire so I'll take a look the next time I'm there. Thanks for the tip! -Ryan

      @@mywildholm Aah the good old Newfie Tum wrench. The nice thing about the prop wrenches is they float.

    A couple of things. First, for a greenhouse, you might want to consider galvanized cattle panels. They come in 4' x 16' size and be structurally superior to the wood greenhouse. My store in the states sells them for $35 US. Then build the ends with wood. For drinking water utilize reverse osmosis system. Also, with all those trees you have, buying a swamill and creating your lumber. Just a couple of ideas.

    Always have a spare aluminum prop due to the rocks in lake, never use a stainless prop in a rock bottom lake

    Sounds like the soil is seriously depleted of nutrients. You should take some
    soil samples from several locations and get them tested to see what's missing,
    so that you don't lose anymore of the Saskatoons or berries and so that you
    can grow your future garden & fruit trees.
    Chickens provide not only eggs, but great soil building nutrients from their poop.
    You can always give the eggs to your neighbour's if you don't eat them. Just let them
    know when to pick them up. You don't have to deliver them. At least the chickens
    poop will re-fertilize the land for you and with the eggs, you'll be building a stronger
    bond with your community.
    Oh, and if you intend on getting bees to harvest honey, the chick poop will help new
    flowering plants grow. It's a win win all the way around.
    Best to get started on feeding the soil very soon so that it'll be ready for the spring growth.

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good sound advice. We are really looking forward to having chickens and maybe even a couple of goats at some point. It's interesting because we have the whole spectrum on the island... Peat, sand, clay, dirt, compost (leaves etc) spread across various locations. It will be important to get that all sorted out for sure 🌱

      Thank you so much 😃 Ryan feels that we need to have our actual cabin with an inside kitchen in order to be sustainable for year round living. We don't have inside running water either yet, we are getting there though. We've already accomplished alot this season 🙌 We cannot wait!

    Looking forward to the solar video, Ryan! My solar panels & inverter and stuff have been sitting in storage because we just haven't had the time to deal with it yet - as you say, cabin comes first. I have figured out most of what I am going to need, but curious to see a fellow Canadian off grid builder's experience, and if I have made any mistakes in my calculations.
    Anyway, it's going to have to wait till spring. It's going to be rainy and cloudy for next five months here in North Vancouver Island... might as well hibernate with the bears. 😴

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thanks for watching! I have installed the solar system at the cabin and it works great. Its a gamenchanger really. Powers all our needs, including our induction stove top, oven and incinerator toilet! It is so nice to not hear the generator... I still need to edit the video(s) to tell the story though. I will be breaking the video up into a series so people can more easily obtain the precise scope of information they are looking for. The series will include all the components required - what they do and why you need them, sizing your system, calculating loads, resources to find the solar insolstion for your area, optimal tilt angles per season, fixed tilt vs adjustable tilt vs tracking systems, wire sizing, grounding considerations, maintenance, days of autonomy, practical advice and so forth. I am hoping to create an authoritative one-stop resource for DIY solar enthusiasts. If there is anyhing in particular you want me to include in the videos, just let me know amd I'll gladly add it in. Take care!

    Curious, but why take the truck? If it had rained or snowed. The truck would've stayed there like the jeep. Just saying.

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      😆 We really need the truck over there and to be honest it just feels safer to have it right with us instead of parked on the shore with no protection. Last year our big trailer was vandalized by someone - anyone could come down that logging road to go fishing although it's a long ways to go. It just feels better to have it with. We do it all the time now.
