Many of the greatest protestant converts to Catholicism have spoken about this kind of "fear," if you will, the closer they get to conversion, from G.K. Chesterton to Scott Hahn and others. I've always found it fascinating, though as a revert, I kind of relate a bit. Still, having been raised in the faith, it's largely foreign to me. Thank God for podcasts like these! This is an interesting look as someone joining the Catholic Church fully( been going since I was a kid but never was serious and never told how to join the fell away). I kinda look at it from my navy background. The upper chain of command is always a bit disconnected, but we stick together and get the job done. Just we stick together for Jesus's sake no matter what rocks the boat.
Been a fan of Dr. Chapp for awhile now. He kind of echoes my own views on a lot of things (even our shared opinion on Pope Francis). I particularly agree with one of the earlier points, Christ first, Christus Primus, that should be our guiding principle always.
This was a brilliant conversation, although honestly, it was a bit depressing. I didn't come into the Catholic Church for any other reason other than I felt strongly the pull of the Holy Spirit to go to a mass and then to keep going. I knew nothing of Catholicism, nor any Catholics. Once in RCIA I loved learning everything I could. Becoming Catholic is a license for a lifetime of learning. But understand that regardless of why you come to the church, it's on you to make the most of your time. It's not up to the liturgy, or the priest, the magisterium or any other person, doctrine or thing. Live your faith with the Eucharist as the source and summit and the rest of the foolishness melts away.
I like the simplicity of the novus order, though a lot of catholics don’t seem to like singing, compared with my exp in protestant worship, so that’s a bummer for me. I’ve worshipped with a reformed presbyterian church that is exclusively psalm signing, no instruments, just human voices joining together, very lovely, prayerful, and theological.
Well I will say something about singing. I attend a Catholic Parish using the 1970 Missal, well 2 parishes that attend. Both have priests ordained say in last 12 years and celebrate the Mass very reverently. I find that classical Catholic Liturgical Hymns almost instinctively get people to sing. When there is a cantor that uses 1970's and 1980's hymns like Marty Haugen Gather us in, etc, I just don't sing it. Now, not that those hymns are unorthodox, they are not, just bad Liturgical Songs.

I went to my son’s church and it was like a pep talk with a concert. Not my kinda church. It was a shock to the system. I grew up in the Latin Mass, then the English Mass, then no Mass, I just got married, sidetracked and didn’t go back for years. I do not sing, I can’t hold a tune so singing is thing I am after. I’d rather hear more of the gospel.
I love your channel, and this guest makes many good points. My sorrow is how he disparages the Pope and Bishops speaking on climate change as talking about "garbage." How is caring about the environment, or any aspect of "Catholic social teaching," not part of the "cornucopia" he praises at the end? Not part of the "moral theology" he says they should be speaking about? Not part of the Church's care for "truth, beauty, and goodness"? I recently re-read "Laudato Si," and was struck by how often Pope Francis quotes both John Paul II and Benedict. In particular he preaches against the very consumption-centered culture Dr. Chapp criticizes at the end. How is this "garbage"? Of course lay people should be out there making it all happen. Too few parish priests (almost none, in my experience) encourage them to do so. But how can you separate liturgy and social justice in a Church that holds the Bible to be the word of God?
Majority of us Catholics in Asia do not have any problem with Pope Francis, in fact, we love him. But there seems to be something in him that grates on his critics esp those who've been influenced by western socmed. Just bc he's not so clear (as English is not his mother tongue), they tend to put malice in everything the Pope says.😢 Sorry, but it's how I see it from his critics, Catholics or not.😌 This is also why we really need to pray, not just for the Pope, the priests and the clergy, but all, Catholics or non Catholics.🙏🏻💖😇
It makes so much sense, Jesus saying I am the vine and you are the branches, abide in ME and I in you, God the father will prune the branches that will not bear fruit.
TLM is not suppressed as much as one might think-. FSSP and ICCK have been given the full blessing by our holy father and continue to expand. Talk to your local Bishop about inviting them to work out of your diocese… that’s a great way to have either of these two groups operate locally. Need to get a bunch of people together and work with your diocese. Our diocese has only increased in TLM times and attendance.. we went from a three Masses a week (Tues, Friday, and Sun) to every day of the week. We had one TLM Priest to two. This is in St Martinville La. And this is at the diocese level- so in our case, TLM is definitely not suppressed
@dsonyay Definitely depends on the Bishop... But, if more than 3 people ask for it to be more accessible in the diocese the request actually gets bumped up above your Bishop.

I was in Rome during Easter and it was amazing but it was basically just 1 church the Trinita dei Pellegrini and the Celso e Giuliano of the Institute which is a smaller church. Could not find any diocesan TLM though, these were apparently suppressed after TC.
Yep, the TLM is available in my diocese as well. However, the novus ordo liturgy at my parish is breathtaking. Our priest recently installed a kneeler for those wanting to receive on the tongue. I would estimate 80% of the laity are receiving kneeling, on the tongue. We use only the organ, very occasionally the piano. There are bells and there is extensive use of Gregorian chant. We have professional cantors and a beautiful choir that works their tails off to be a blessing. We end each mass with a Marian anthem. One of the parishioners who retired wealthy, just built a new priest house in the back of the parish property at no cost to the diocese. The parish just paid cash for a new administration and classroom building. Our ministries are thriving, retreats are full, and it all turned around with the arrival of a priest who emphasized liturgy and the beauty of the mass.
Oh yeah your guest couldn’t have said it truer about Catholics during the time of Vatican 2 were going to church but didn’t know or understand the true spiritual teachings of the traditional Catholic Church teachings from ages of the past,for I my self have seen it happen even though I’m a cradle Catholic born into the Catholic Church as an infant in the fifties.For countless Catholics couldn’t understand the new way’s of teachings and worshiping God with the new implementations of the teachings and way of celebrating the Holy Mass,plus with all of the explosions of inventions I’ve seen with my own eyes the loss of faith and understanding or believing in God in a higher spiritual way which countless Catholics were swept away by inventions.Thanks for your splendid honest guest and your video it’s most enlightening yeah Amen 🙏

Good interview. Thank you. I think Pope Francis’ pathway challenges all of us to growth. We need to reflect more deeply on developing pastoral skills … we need to soften our approach to evangelization in the sense of the ‘how to’ admit, respond and be more proactive to ‘complex sin’ cases. Should a priest refuse or withhold blessings in a generic sense? No. We know the grace from any blessing belongs to Jesus who is in our midst and administers this grace. Jesus knows the persons involved and how to manage the intended graces. We need to acknowledge the presence of Jesus. It is or ought to be self-evident that sin is never blessed. I disagree, however, on the discussion on complaints against Pope Francis on liturgy. Pope Francis, it is clear, has nothing against the Latin Mass. The issue is disciplinary action against an aggressive loud minority who attempt to suggest that the Novus Ordo has no place in the celebration of the Eucharist … this, of course is not true. As there are different choirs of angel so there are different expressions of prayer and devotion along the ‘narrow path’. We should be celebrating this diversity within the Church.
I have never seen a clown Mass or anything on that line. I do like my English and the singing at my church. I don't really want the Latin back, though I do take communion on my tongue and cover my head out of respect for the Lord. I wish they would just allow both and see them as expressions of love of God and a unified church.
The SSPX is not in schism. They are in “irregular union” which is the vaguest term you could use. Archbishop Lefebvre strictly writes against becoming a sedevacantist, and urges everyone to submit to the pope. It’s a bit disingenuous to group them together as if they’re the same
Jesus was meek, kind and inviting, but he never diluted or compromised his message, he was direct and very specific and did not waiver with soft feelings, he was firm. Truth, love, conviction , REPENTANCE was key with his absolution or cure, then a firm command… too sin no more! The authentic Traditional Catholic Church is not easily followed, because it is of Jesus Christ. Merely reading the Bible will not save you. Merely thinking about the Commandments, the 7deadly sins and listing your own sins does not absolve you of your sins. Thinking about the Mass does not get you inside the church to receive the Eucharist. You must follow Jesus the way he told us he wished us to follow him. Then act, do, work, walk the walk, in his direction. By the Sacraments not just reading the Word. The Bible did not tell the lay person everything… the Apostles were told so much more in private…read Mark 4:34 + John14:26, Hebrews 10:9 + 12:9, Matt.5:16 + 16:27.
Pope Francis is always talking about being more pastoral to his priests, bishops and cardinals now than being theocratic. Just like Jesus talking with tax collectors, dining with sinners , the pharisees despised Jesus for doing that. Now, we see Pope Francis smiling and talking to the gay priest, smiling at him like condoning his behavior. We truly do not know what is in Pope Francis' mind/ heart, only God knows. Thanks God, it is part of our Eucharistic celebrations to pray for our pope and leaders of the church. I came to realize that I truly do not know our pope, I do not know his mind/heart only God knows however I trust in our LORD JESUS words that the netherworld will never over run the Catholic church. Pope Francis might be a saint in the making, who knows, only God knows. As long as I receive the 7 sacraments that leads me to Christ and to heaven, I will not think so much of the hierarchy of the church. God said, shine where you are that is your most important role in life.
I wish the bishops were willing to correct. The words of PF have attacked the very deepest, central meaning, mission, and purpose of the Body of Christ. This CANNOT be a simple non magisterial version to be ignored. His words must be confronted.
What does it matter what language the Mass is in? There should be outrage about how children were treated historically and how women are still disrespected.

Never thought i would hear such honesty. On most channels everything is perfect in Rome, (except the pope LoL) One thing Larry didn't mention about the pre-V2 Mass was that us alter boys and not the congregation would give the Latin responses and prayers, but not the Greek Kyrie. We said the confidior and the Creed all in Latin. Although I think everyone said the "Our Father" . But with the change, there was nothing to learn anymore as to prayers. It was as though we lost half our purpose. But now as an Evangelical, the important thing for me is one's view of scripture. That is what holds us together. Is the scripture authoritative? Is it the word of God or does it contain the word of God? Is the whole of it the inspired or exhaled word of God? This separates true believers from those who are subject to every wind of doctrine. I knew priests who believed in reincarnation for example. Few actually had this high view of scripture which I believe is related to the fear of God.

According to scripture, if you assemble together in Jesus name, and for the purpose of exhortation, that is a church. O, the bliss of ignorance! Today, Sept. 14, 2024, Bergoglio has officially said all religions are equally good. Do we still think Bergoglio is not a heretic? Ok, so JPII and Benedict 16 were acceptable, even though I always preferred Archbishop Lefebvre’s way of doing things. But after Vatican II the next 2 popes at least were much loved. But Bergoglio is unbearable. Totally unbearable. And after what he said today, we know he’s a heretic and now we must take steps.

I like NO Mass too.. BUT what really messes up most all Mass’ is the folksy guitar type music. A Novus Ordo Mass with chant would mean so much more.

Now, we see Pope Francis smiling and talking to the gay priest, smiling at him like condoning his behavior. We truly do not know what is in Pope Francis' mind/ heart, only God knows. Thanks God, it is part of our Eucharistic celebrations to pray for our pope and leaders of the church. I came to realize that I truly do not know our pope, I do not know his mind/heart only God knows however I trust in our LORD JESUS words that the netherworld will never over run the Catholic church. Pope Francis might be a saint in the making, who knows, only God knows. As long as I receive the 7 sacraments that leads me to Christ and to heaven, I will not think so much of the hierarchy of the church. God said, shine where you are that is your most important role in life.

One thing Larry didn't mention about the pre-V2 Mass was that us alter boys and not the congregation would give the Latin responses and prayers, but not the Greek Kyrie. We said the confidior and the Creed all in Latin. Although I think everyone said the "Our Father" . But with the change, there was nothing to learn anymore as to prayers. It was as though we lost half our purpose.
But now as an Evangelical, the important thing for me is one's view of scripture. That is what holds us together. Is the scripture authoritative? Is it the word of God or does it contain the word of God? Is the whole of it the inspired or exhaled word of God?
This separates true believers from those who are subject to every wind of doctrine. I knew priests who believed in reincarnation for example. Few actually had this high view of scripture which I believe is related to the fear of God.
