I started watching this channel about March of last year and you guys have inspired me to make some really massive changes in the way I feed my family. I created a Permaculture food environment in my backyard, began foraging for mushrooms and fruit from abandoned trees. This year I grew enough greens, garlic, and sweet potatoes that we haven’t had to buy any from the store, and won’t have to going forward. Thank you so much for sharing the practical sides of food production. Blessings.

I shared this video with my wife for her to watch at her leisure. I grew up in a farmhouse on the US Canada border. We had a "truck garden" which we utilized for 75% of our fresh and canned fruits and veggies. We had a dozen special apple trees that we were told by the previous owner of the house were planted by the actual man "Johnny Appleseed." We had a trout stream running north to south, I personally kept 1 shelf of our upright freezer full of trout. Deer, rabbit, squirrel, grouse, the occasional pheasant... Woodcock, dove... We were never out of food.

When I saw your pic of hooligan I recognized them as a type of smelt. Growing up on a dirt farm in Washington we made use of “free” food. That meant we would get clams, oysters and crab in season (before you had to pay for permits) as well as hunting.
Also, every February we would load the giant smelt box that was made to fit in the back of the 14 passenger van with the last seat removed and all 6 of us kids would bundle up and pile in the van at 4:30 a.m. for the long drive down to the area where everyone went to dip. The boys and dad would take turns wading out into the freezing cold river to dip. They would empty the nets into buckets which us girls had to haul up to the van to empty in the box until full. Then we would make the journey back home to transfer them to baby bathtubs or stock containers before heading back down to get another load.
When we got back home the cleaning would begin which meant our hands would stay cold all day. With such a boring long job kids will find a way to entertain themselves and eventually we would be shooting fish guts at each other which of course meant fish guts were on the walls, the floor, etc. finally mom made us clean them on the back porch which made the job more miserable. The fish would be frozen in 5 lb batches and a lot of them would be smoked.
Many things I didn’t care for doing as a child I developed an appreciation for as an adult. I am 65 and still waiting to regain appreciation for anything associated with smelt. More power to you. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

It's kind of overwhelming to see it all at once, but then I remember that you two just chip away at it all year. You go out and harvest berries and freeze them. What an absolutely fantastic hoard of food
… the joy on your face while talking about your home produce and preserves really shows how your lifestyle is perfect for the both of you
… I could never see either of you queue in a supermarket for sub-standard produce or pound the streets window shopping
… you are living my dream and I’m sure the same for the majority of your subscribers

In the middle of a squall off grid. I just remembered to turn off the well pump and got pretty drenched. Even my canine pal (hunting dog) was trying to get out of the rain! Thanks for making my day/life feel normal.

Love these videos, reminds me of how my grandmother lived. She canned slot and made almost everything from scratch in Tennessee. I miss that life style living in New York

Love it! Most people just go buy their food and tend to waste alot of it. MN here, zone 4. We have a good size garden and try to grow, can, dehydrate and freeze everything we grow. We do get meat from the store on occasion, but we also bought a hog and half a beef last year from a farmer not too far from us. The last of all that got canned recently. No hunted meat for us this year but we will be ok and still have two weeks for archery season left. I think when we grow and hunt for our food we appreciate it more and take more care in preparation and there is little to no waste. Its nice to see others doing the same as we do here! Thanks for sharing!

Love it guys!! Thank you for the awesome food tour. It’s really nice to see the follow up for all the wonderful adventures you’ve taken us on this year as well as pay off for all the incredible hard work you’ve accomplished. I love the recipes you share, the creativity and utilization of all the hard work you do. What a wonderful example of how to live a life you love and reap what you sow. Again, thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your extraordinary lives. It seems like I’m always waiting for your next video and so I’m happy when you post it because it is ALWAYS so worth the wait!! 😁

Totally mesmerizing food reviews by both Arielle and Eric. Couldn't take my eyes off this video
that 3 years ago I would not even watch. An amazing assortment of canned and preserved goods that took a lot of work and knowledge to prepare. Most of which one could not even find in the average grocery store! Kudos ! 👍👍👍

I dont mt dew but I'd miss my dr pepper lol 😋 I do occasionally enjoy crunchy cheetos or *gasp* nasty old funions and maybe banana flavored twinkled.
But I love fresh salads to the point I learned hydroponics and my kiddos bought me LED (5000 lumin) shop lights and I grow inside all winter. But we are not off grid. Hubs did the nerdy farm math and on the timers they end up costing about $3 a month to run.
I wonder how well one bank of lights would do in off grid conditions?

Love this video, great job preserving your harvests! Quick tip for using up jellies, mix them with your barbecue or tomato sauce to brush on grilled meats. Also, canned carrots work well puréed and added to bread/muffin batters.

WOW. You two eat what I would describe as gourmet constantly. You both look healthy and happy. I live in Minnesota. It sometimes is colder than where you are. I have to feed my livestock outside. It takes me sometimes 4-5 hours. I know that working in -39 degrees will absolutely strip every ounce of fat on your body. So, it is important to eat well. You both inspire me. I love you both as if you are my family. Keep it up. Bless you.

Fellow Kimchi fan here 😊 Try some of your sliced homemade bread, buttered on one side each (aka the "outside" layer) with some cheddar and Jack slices and some kimchi layered on the inside...Grill in your iron pan on medium low, buttered sides out (usually takes 10-15 minutes, flipping to each side twice and getting a toasty golden color) ...a warm, buttery, melty kimchi grilled cheese is SO yummy! (Dave's Killer Bread, Green or Red label, works amazingly for those that buy their bread.)
