Paul Heyman is not just a good mic worker but an amazing actor as well. He cried for real when the Bloodline imploded and he's done some great character work as they built and carried the faction. In fact, there is no Bloodline without Heyman.
My wife says Paul deserves a TV Emmy for Best Supporting Actor.

since people used to get the tickets to get entertained and feel the charisma around but now when the business is gone world-wide and in this social media world where every roast line/promo battle starts trending on twitter

that's another reason why the boxing and UFC organizes a press conference to promote fight
The Rock..I think it's his overall popularity carrying over to the mic work that does the job, not his mic skill itself
Verbal jousts goes to Austin and Rock, Cena and Punk did lame 4th wall stuff most of the time. Austin and Rock would have made both look like jabronis on the mic.
Lets also not forget Steiner and wrestlers like that would have eaten Cena or Punk on the mic.
The whole idea that Rock without the PG rules is better on the mic than Cena or CM Punk is crazy anyway. Imagine what Punk or Cena would have done under the same guidelines as Rock back in the day.

As soon as I seen Paul Heyman, I knew it was over. He's been brilliant on the mic for decades.
I think Punk and Cena are neck-to-neck, both at #1 for active wrestlers. Cena was amazing at working the crowd and roasting his opponent, but so was Punk. Cena is slightly better at crowd work, Punk however is more versatile, amazing as heel or as face. Hard to pick between the two so I just say it's a tie.
And when they did their promos together, they were equals. They did magic together.
And punk roasted cena in their promo battle

@@pleaseshutup7053it depends on the circumstances. In 2011 Punk was given more freedom, in 2012 it was Cena. That's why they roasted each other. If this was 2006 Punk, many people would be able to defeat him on the mic, because he did not have such a gimmick. At the same time, the 2003-2004 Cena face constantly mocked Paul Heyman in promo battles, but this does not mean that Paul Heyman is worse

@@devpurohit2565 Agreed it's a short list. Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Ricochet, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, The Rock, RVD. Possibly Triple H just due to his ability to not get tired. Forgot Bret, used to be amazing like 99' Bret. Otherwise, not many compare. Kane was freakishly agile in his OG days. So was Booker T. But I don't see them winning anything. I guess Mark Henry or Scott Steiner if we're talking strength but we're not.

CM Punk No 1. Nobody beats punk in a promo battle
Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan are some of the most iconic promos ever with some of the most iconic catchphrases ever. I 'm a huge LA knight fan, but he's not macho man on the mic. Sami Zayn does tell a good story but he's nowhere near early 92 wwf Ric Flair on the mic in my opinion. Also my opinion I don't think Matt Hardy is close to Hulk Hogan.
Gable is the next guy that the fans push to the top! Might take a few more years hit but he’s got a Daniel Bryan type run in him he’s just too good in every aspect

The fact that you have chosen CM Punk over The Rock says a lot about your wrestling knowledge. I think you need to go back to TH-cam and watch Rock's work from 98-03. Let me help you with a few of his iconic mic works:
1) His promo against Billy Gunn
2) His promo against Booker T
3) His Canada promo
4) His segments with Goldust and Booker T
5) His feud against Hurricane and backstage promos
6) Him imitating Triple H
7) His iconic promo where he roasted Rikishi, Kurt, Undertaker, and SCSA
8) Him standing on top of the turnbuckle and roasting Undertaker and Kane
9) Him creating a new word, SmackDown which is not part of the dictionary
10) Him speaking Chinese
11) All of his backstage segments and interviews with Kevin Kelly, Coach, and Michael Cole.
I guess you have the idea now. The funny thing is that even HHH owned Punk in that legendary promo. My wild guess is that you have not grown up watching Attitude Era, and you are a ruthless aggression era kid. There is nothing wrong with being Ruthless Aggression kid. It had some really great segments. But you have to understand that the 2011 version of Rock was a washed-down version of him because he had a big PR team who could not afford to offend any big production house. Had it been the old Rock, he would have eaten Punk and Cena for breakfast and lunch.

There is a different types of microphone worker. John Cena is really good at dissing his opponent and that's why wrestler go against Cena and you get buried alive and never recover; however, I find Rock mic work more funnier and entertaining and more enjoyable but he does not diss his opponent like John Cena does. It is what you like. I like to have a smile on my face and that's why I pick the Rock.

SCSA is heavily carried by his feud with Vince. Almost every time he went up against someone like Kurt or Rock, they beat him on the mic and he had to resort to a stunner because of how badly he was getting owned.
Cena can cut good promos against mediocre talent like Enzo Amore, Baron Corbin, Elias, etc. SCSA can only cut good promos when there's someone else like Vince going against him.
And for good measure, remove "And that's the bottom line because SC said so", "Give me a hell yeah" "If you wanna see me whip this SOB's ass". Minus those three catchphrases, and then remove Cena's. Cena smokes him because SCSA is carried by that and more superior mic workers.
