  • Find your Mashup by pressing here: www.mashup.surf .. The Mashup is arriving at surf shops around the world throughout February.
    U.S.A. surf shops and online stores will have Mashups available on or before February 15th. In the meantime, you can pre order your Mashup at the link above.
    Most surf shops in Australia and Europe, as well as e-commerce stores in these regions already have Mashups available, with some surf shops still receiving them this week.
    The Mashup was initially conceived by both Dan Mann and Rob Machado.
    Rob asked Dan if there was a way he could sprinkle some 'shortboardisms' into his favorite Seaside, and Dan was quick to take lessons learned from the FRK, Spitfire and other designs of his, and incorporate them into the Seaside.
    Where they landed was a perfect mix of the Seaside and the Dominator II, with a little bit of Spitfire sprinkled in.
    According to Dan, much of the Mashup's performance relies on volume distribution lessons that Rob learned from the Seaside, and fin / rocker / concave relationships that Dan has learned from working with Kelly Slater, Brodi Sale, Betty Lou Sakura Johnson, Kevin Schulz and other elite surfing talents.
    After surfing the Mashup in the ocean at varied beach breaks and point breaks, both Rob and Dan decided the board was final and done one Monday at Surf Ranch when Kelly Slater didn't just invite them to surf with him for the day, he also rode the Mashup himself, as seen in this video.

    I love the difference between Rob and Dans board explanations. Dan sounds like a scientist hyper focused on every detail while Rob is more like - "I was in search of a special golden nugget that could transport me to another dimension and we landed on the mashup."

I ride a 5'8 34 liter quadfish and a 5'5 chumlee at 32 liters and love it. I'm looking for something that sits between length and design wise. Would a 5'7 or 5'8 mashup work? I'm 177cm and 67 kilos. G'day Dan
    After about 8 years away from surfing following lower back surgery, I have returned to the sport I love since starting at age 10. I've started back on HI Mid 6 boards, a 7'0'" (40 litres) and 7'6" (48 litres) to get up onto waves quicker, as I'm a bit slower to pop-up now, and getting older haha. I'm really loving the 7'6". I am 55 years of age, 5'11" tall and weigh 180-185lbs. I want to add a shorter board to my quiver. I am tossing up between the Mashup and the Dominator 2.0. Although starting over again, I would rate myself now as intermediate, but need a little extra foam to get on waves quicker. I generally surf beach breaks anywhere from knee to head high. Would you recommend the Mashup over the Dom 2? I have ruled out the Seaside as a 3rd option because I would like the option of having tri or quad set-up. Also, I am considering the Revo as an outside 4th option contender. Interested in your thoughts.
    Cheers, Marty

    @firewire surfboards Why did you move the leash plug?
    The board Dan Mann is showing has the plug in the center, but the one’s I’ve been seeing for pre-order have it either on the left or right pin tail…

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We decided to place the leash plug in the center to accommodate many traction pads that have a crescent cutout in the tail kick, allowing the tail kick to fit around the leash plug. Also, if your pad does not have a crescent cutout, it's easy to cut one with an x-acto knife, easier than cutting a section of your pad out on either side of the tail kick.

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Also, the Mashup has a wider range of functionality in powerful surf because of the way the rail thins out through the tail, and the way the foil just generally thins out in the back third of the board in alignment with the added rocker. Between a Mashup and a Seaside you're dialed in weak to powerful waves from two to six or seven foot waves.

    • @stevehills5753
      @stevehills5753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Craig Phillips I’m 5’9” 155 I went with the 5’6” mash up…. Plenty of float and still small enough to whip around.
      The dom 2 I have the 5’7”…. My opinion the dom 2 needs a good wave, faster a little bowly. It comes to life in fast punchy surf.
      The mashup covers a bit more ground it seems to be good in both types of waves, although I’ve yet to try it in overhead surf. We may get some head high+ surf this week if we do I’ll let you know how it goes

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both boards are great, but closeouts are hard to surf on any board. If the waves are fast and punchy, the Mashup is likely the best call because the rail is foiled so thin, and the tail is so thin. This helps the shape hold in the face of fast, round waves.

Because you are always concentrating on small and light guys (JJ's boards are custom made for him) you can put the wide point up front on a tiny board with very small litres. For bigger guys, you put the widest point up front and the board just bogs like the 70s, unless the waves are good. See what you are saying? You ride a 5'11" Mashup. There's actually not much similarity between the Mashup and the No Brainer. They both have swallow tails, but the wide point, rocker, concave and fin clusters are totally different. So is the volume distribution through the plan shape and the foil from nose to tail. Both are fun boards, but the Mashup is more versatile across many different conditions, and overall enables more performance and progression than the No Brainer, without sacrificing speed and paddling.
