“Musicians are a lost cause, if you’re getting thousands upon thousands of eyes on your shit and your only way to make money is having people show up to your shows, you suck” the guy can’t possibly fathom that people can be motivated by something that isn’t monetary. This man is the embodiment of BryanStars 2.0.
He's not charging money for interviews, dude. The dude has a degree in marketing and has been working behind the scenes with tons of content creators, podcasts, and tons of other stuff people listen to all the time. He's built his own business doing marketing consulting and that is the fee that he charges to work with people, and businesses are willing to pay for it. People have underestimated how intelligent this dude is for years, and now they're big mad because they found out he worked the TH-cam game to make money and was successful at it. AND he told everyone about it. How about all the other TH-camrs out there that are literally doing the exact thing without being honest about it?
Hey Tank! Thanks for the info! I have watched a few videos and a few of them said he charges $1000 for zoom calls for podcasts/interviews so that is where that is coming from but if it is business related and the call is labelled as a meeting or business advice then if they are happy to pay that charge fair enough plenty of other businesses do that. I personally couldn't hide it if was making major ££££ as I am very open with my audience and I would be able to offer so much more if it was my main source of income and that would be pretty evident. If he has built his own business and is doing that now I don't get the whole "I never liked the music" "I have never listened to that band" it just seems a little childish to behave that way. Either way like you said he managed to play the game and win and fair play to him just wish he wasn't behaving the way he was currently because his audience all feel let down and that is very evident in the comments.
@@MTNReacts Because people love to take everything personal. Do people get mad at newscasters for reporting stories they're not interested in only because it's what people want to hear? Do people get mad at the bands that play their songs that they absolutely hate because they know that's what people are paying to see? Probably not. I do have a hard time believing he "never liked music" and stuff like that, and he's definitely jaded from his experience of dealing with negativity on the internet, but I'm genuinely shocked that it seems like I'm the only person in the content space that isn't bothered by any of this.
One of the reasons i subed to his channel is mostly cause of his marketing/business angle. Music tastes are highly subjective any way. That's the reason i subbed to your channel, mostly for interesting music industry insider videos. Finn approached yt content creation as business venture first and foremost. He found formula that worked and made money. Kudos to him. I get that some people feel betrayed, but if someone found value in his videos (learned something new, discovered new music etc), why does it even matter if he did it for the money or because it was his passion? Let's judge product (video) on it's own merit.
@@slaven18 Well I appreciate you being here man!! Thank you. I also believe what you say too. I did enjoy a few of his videos over the years so yeah it is just a shame the way it went.
I think he's definitely lying. He obviously loves music. I think he's just grown bitter and angry at his audience. He's said many times that he does what his audience wants, and they complain whenever he tries to change things up. I think he's just lost the passion and now he's being a butthole about everything.
I am more on the side of he is lying definitely. It’s such a strange move to just up and leave and now be coming out saying “I never liked music” nah not buying it sorry.
@@MTNReactsYou don't make a very specific channel called "PUNK ROCK MBA" and disseminate and discuss things in the way he did without having a strong interest in music. I absolutely don't buy it for a second.
@@WilDBeestMF It's such an odd vector to choose for a grift too. I mean, I've seen "do it for the money" before. A youtuber/streamer I used to watch play Elder Scrolls Online suddenly started becoming a full time Fortnite creator. That makes sense, because Fortnite is a huge market, and he's now got 10M subs from like 100K before Fortnite. I also don't believe even he hates it, but I highly doubt he loves it as much as he pretends.
That is exactly what I think. He couldn't take criticism I think. He probably got a lot of crap poured over him for a long time but everyone who 's getting big enough on thé internet is going to get detractors,is going to get harsh criticisms, anger, even hate. Everyone. Doesnt matter which platform. I think he couldn't deal with it. I wouldnt be either. But I 'm not going to start a TH-cam channel.
That is definitely the vibe I get from him. Between 2017 and 2020, he wasn't just doing Wikipedia readouts. Especially his series like "Bands that could have been bigger" and "Most hated bands" were some of the most insightful things I heard him say. I 100% think he just hates what his audience became and gave them the big "Fuck you". I vividly remember him being openly confrontational about certain stanbases and such.
He has this whole "I'm better than you" vibe even when he says things like The Lumineers sounds the same as Sonic Youth and he writes off indie music as rubbish. I feel betrayed for liking him back in 2018 before he got so snappy in recent times
I agree. He def likes/liked alternative music within both punk, rock, hardcore and metal. He mentioned so many obscure death metal bands, punk bands, he went to shows in the 90s and loved it he said. So yeah of course that's true. He's just coping for something else going on. Maybe fully depressed or something, who knows, man.
He was from a particular hardcore scene in the late 90s & early 2000s in Ohio. He had alot of Born Against flyers on his wall in the beginning. He wasn't a musician so after he became married and leaning toward doing more things associated with that business MBA he has and tired of doing bands he couldn't care less about. Someone also mentioned he was getting annoyed with his subscribers. I get it, I get it. I think that interview was a middle finger to all of his detractors. I think when he was on Fat Mike's Fat Mic podcast it really resonated with him cause Mike was on The NOFX final tour. A few things Mike said, "If you don't love what your doing anymore then it's time to do other things to make you and other ppl happy". Finn seemed to ponder on this and said, "That makes a lot of sense". Six months later and Finn is off TH-cam and concentrating on Buisness minus the music.
Hes butt hurt no one likes his wife or her views so hes lashing out trying to hurt his fans feelings like they hurt his by not liking his wife. The end
He's always been honest about why he started a TH-cam channel and while it's not exactly word for word, what he said in the interview is indeed why he started his channel in the first place. His first videos were indeed primarily focused on marketing. What he is lying about is how he's not interested in music. Sure, marketing might be his biggest passion; you won't make a video about BMTH if you aren't interested in music. You wouldn't have ever heard of the band. The fact that he made some magazines while he was in high school, went to all these hardcore gigs in the 90's, made videos calling out racism and sexism in metal and wrote for Metalsucks at some point also proves he did have a very passionate relation with music at one time. My guess is that he's just not good at handling criticism, even when he's clearly wrong. Just look at how he handled the backlash against his first black metal video. I think he really needs to work on that. Honestly, he's just not made to be in the spotlight. Fair criticism and, sadly, hate are part of the job. I know popular creators complain about the hate in private all the time because I used to watch a podcast where they did so openly. While that certainly isn't fun they do keep going on because they still love what they do. When that passion ultimately disappears they'll be honest about it as well and make a video saying they'll call it quits. Finn never did that. He openly complained about people hating on him and when he quit he didn't even announce it, the latter which someone who is more suited to creating videos and posting them for a large audience to see would never do.
You nailed it about the fair criticism and especially making music related content as it is so subjective you are never ever going to please everyone. It is all about the way that is communicated though too. I will always debate with someone if they want to have a conversation and a discussion and in some instances I have even agreed with them and then we go our separate ways hoping to share the love first time round next time. You can't put yourself out there and not expect to receive some hate or stupid comments and I have learnt to ignore the total idiots now because there is no way to ever rid the comments of them. I am definitely not buying the fact he just did it for the money and hated the music there are far too many things that don't add up to make that statement totally untrue. Thanks for watching and commenting though, appreciate you!
The dude had gone on the record many times about being burnt out doing the videos he was doing. Also, people always shit on him any time he talked about artists he was actually interested in in this age of music.
He definitely doesn't have a few million in the bank or anywhere even close to that. His numbers are big for the space he's in, but 600k subs and one or two videos hitting a million isn't retirement money.
He has other financial interests and also has had endorsement/sponsorship deals. His Twitch also made him a good few $$$ so he must have close to $1M in the bank at least. You don't throw away something good and proven financially if you don't have at least something to fall back on.
He was definitely part of the 90's diy hardcore scene. The band Spazz dedicated 6 (six!) songs to him in the late 90's, and his knowledge about hxc/powerviolence etc. from that era is very detailed and contains a lot of stuff that you can't look up on Wikipedia just like that.
He would always spout that rock music is dead. When I would tell him that there is tons of rock music coming out of goth/post-punk right now he would never respond. He had a very obvious agenda: to make money by any means necessary. If it involved lying then so be it. Personally, I think the huge reason why he quit is because of him getting with his wife while she was underage. People have been calling him out majorly for it so he decides to quit rather than face consequences for his actions. Screw him.
Finn is a lame. He's a liar about not caring about music cuz everyone loves music and he just couldn't handle us calling him out. He's full of it. Good riddance.
That is the thing that is puzzling me, apparently he has built a business and he is doing that now. The behaviour and the way he is carrying on is the strange one.
I don't know him personally, I don't know about his personal life or whatever. When I discovered him back in 2019 it was a breathe of fresh air. How the genres became big and faded, why this or that band had commercial success, dissect it and what can we learn from it, why this band was hated... You get the point. The problem is, he run out of ideas. He himself recognized that, started making "wikipedia videos" which were totally wortless, his audience knew it, he knew it, but he kept doing it because he had a son and had to bring some money to the table. I think his wife also jumped on the youtuber wagon, but I'm not sure. This is one problem that many content creators doesn't realize, they leave everything behind thinking people are gonna be forever therefore, a secure job forever. Bottom line is, his channel lost the purpose after a couple of years, for every 9 videos, just 1 of them was worthy. He stopped talking about topics he really wanted to talk about (pop, emo-trap), just because most of his audience didn't like those. The most logical thing for him to continue was to doing videos not on regular basis, but whenever he had something useful to say, but again he said he needed the money and that's why he kept doing something he despised. And doing one montly video isn't gonna bring money to the table. Again, I'm surprised when he said in the video that he "hit his finantial goals", like this was some sort of endgame, that after hitting 100, 200k or whatever he can quit. But he has a family to feed, money doesn't last forever. I guess he must have found another reliable source of money (I think he was offering coaching courses for content creators or so, but that's another risky business), have learn that he doesn't need the money from youtube/patreon to support his family, or his blatantly lying "she doesn't left me, I left her". I don't hate this guy, I've learned a lot about music and business with him. Whatever happens to him, wish him well.
Yep. There was always something off about him. Not sure I buy the whole "never was into music thing" Edit - I havent watched any of his videos in years, maybe his more recent ones were different.
I think there are a few things behind it all. Him not caring is a lot of burnout, you can only make so many apathetic videos on nu metal. Most people complaining about passion haven't didn't think about how much they hate their jobs. The grooming thing is odd, I don't really have a comment without proof and nuance. On the surface it's bad, but I have no idea. I think most people are forgetting the dude has autism. There's a good chance he got a sense of joy when he started, realized there's money in it, got disinterested, and kept doing it for the money (like most people and their jobs). He worked on his life, got a family going, became financially secure, and dipped out. That's the goals for 98% of people.
Haha yeah I won’t hear anything bad said about Sleep Token 😂😂 oh god I’ve become one of those super fans nahhh I know people don’t like them but only if they can give a genuine reason. Hating because it’s cool to is just retarded.
I'm very happy that he's out. I have a long history of "disagreements" with this individual as a viewer and commenter here. He had a huge fixation with some bands he didn't like, always spreading false information and biassed opinions (multiple times). Just to trigger big fandoms and get clicks and views. Definitely one of the few people I label as POS.
I should have noticed he was a sociopath a while ago. I had a friend with that same shitty attitude, total sociopath and so is Finn. Can’t believe I was a fan
Finn bought a house in a military/right wing town a couple years ago & the child bride likely liked the idea of being a SAHM. TH-cam seems like it was just a means to that end. He’s not as flush as some might speculate, tho. Net worth of less than a million won’t last forever. Knowing that he intends to prey on noob content creators to the tune $1000 consults grosses me tf out. What a supreme dbag.
As a fan of Finn, unfortunately I have to say that I understand why he became so despised. He has been a proud contrarian since his days as a Metalsucks editor, he had the courage to be a troll in the metal world, which sometimes is more like a cult. The problem was that it's not the same being a contrarian under an online disguise than being with your real persona, and simply he couldn't held the backlash. Sometimes the criticism against him was unfair and harsh, but in other ocassions he had this attitude of "I'm older and wiser than you, so I'm absolutely right and you're not" got the best of him. When he spoke in his "entrepreneur bro" mode it was absolutely embarrassing. Basically calling his audience lazy and he as the true embodiment of success. And while he has earned everything he had, when he told his personal story there were a couple of details where he had some luck that maybe others don't. But that's another story. Anyway Finn, thanks for the good times and I hope you're happy
What would turn me away from his stuff (specifically his vods) is he would always make gross sex jokes that aren't funny and use them as analogies to describe a band he likes/dislikes. Also he definitely is lying about never actually hearing a single song of System Of A Down, You don't express a disliking in a band this much to go as far as to create a "rise & fall of System Of A Down" video and say you never heard of any song ever, Even if you never sat down and listened to it before you still have heard of it regardless.
Finally someone said it! You simply do not make a pretty in-depth video about a band you know nothing about. It is so easy to tell when someone is just reading a wikipedia page or an article and he never ever came across that way. He always used to know when to post something about a band when there was a talking point. If you aren't into that band and don't follow them you aren't likely to even come across the news.
1. He does and has always had other income than TH-cam. 2. Of course he likes music, but as he stated multiple times and even talked about full length that he is tired of making the specific music content he doesn't care about ( 1 billion nu-metal videos and music nostalgia for Millennials and Gen X) because that is the only things that got views and the stuff he really wanted to make got ignored either by the algorithm or a lot of his fanbase.
He kept getting accused of grooming. His wife said bad things about the LGBT community. This recent interview was just a distraction. It worked because that's what everyone is talking about.
His wife said stuff about that? Weird. Finn always came off as a super hardcore lefty to me. I’ve even heard him rant about bands being racist and misogynist. Haha
Is there actual proof and findable evidence of this though? Serious allegations to be throwing around with nothing to back it up. I couldn't find anything.
@MTNReacts His wife deleted her TH-cam videos. However can prove that her videos were controversial. I can prove that she was 18 or 19 when she started talking to Finn. Finn would have been 33 -34 at the time.
Aaah! An adult talking to another adult they found attractive! Oh no and one of the adults had an opinion literally most the world has, the horror! Dorks like this is why I left the scene, a bunch of self righteous losers looking for things to cry about
@@allstopblue5717He flat out said socialism/communism was directly responsible for the most human deaths in recent history. I found it hard to continue on with him after that.
Never trust a "death metal fan" who doesn't like Dying Fetus. I don't believe him for a second that he was never interested in music. I think he's leaning into that idea to benefit his linkedin scheme.
Guys.... he's a marketing expert. Of course he doesn't like music. People in that field hate art and only care about it to the extent that it can be used to make money.... that's it...hence him going on in that interview to call musicians idiots because he "knows guys on linkedin who make way more money". No. He's not lying about his lack of interest in music. He's finally told you what a fraud he is. A thing everyone should have already figured out by now.
Something definitely happened offline. No way he faked that for so long. He's pissed because he had an easy money stream that he worked to build and now it's gone.
I think he simply wants to have a hard cut and therefore is lying to get eveybody on board with it. His audience a.k.a. " the Alternative Scene" (whatever that means) really hates so much different views and opinions that he simply wanted to quit it, at least in the internet. I am not buyjng that he never liked music. That is simply his slap into our faces so that we all can move on after he quit.
Hey fellow Merseyside dweller! Great video.. and I liked Finn's second channel quite a bit and I understood he was into making the money etc but he seemed to at least enjoy talking music whether he liked a band or not, is knowledgeable and entertaining. I think he lost interest in music and should have just said that along with a massive thankyou to his long time fans. Finn comes across terribly on that interview.
He often said that Eighteen Visions was his favorite band, which is a wild thing that no normie would say. Dude is 100% into alternative spaces. Probably not nu-metal, but no doubt he's into hardcore, punk rock, metalcore, etc...
100% he is, I think he is just saying things to get people talking now and to be fair it has worked. It is like me saying that Westlife are my favourite band and I never liked metal :D
hes kinda both, he tries to over inflate his hardcore cred, like the amount of name dropping to appeal top the 1% Uber hardcore that would flame him for not mentioning one obscure band in a list... his back wall full old band concert promo's is super contrived and always made him seem like he's going out of his way to not look like a poser (not saying he is, but i always got a sense of insecurity from him that's rooted in his past... which he has talked about). He wasn't able to make twitch a thing, and was bored with making videos about bands he didn't want to talk about... but that's by his own design and he's his own worst enemy (likely). That interview was full of dead eyes, he might be off his meds, and in a few long bitter phase. I enjoyed zxsome videos, but as someone thats knows more I could tell he went straight to the wiki... there are better pages out there... he kinda played the edge lord role but most mainstream music does kinda suck... I fairly certain he has issues taking any form of criticism... or something
@@MTNReacts He doesn't look like he's having much fun doing it: he seems so morose and low energy in the vid where he says he has no interest in music. And who doesn't like music of any form? People I don't understand, that's who.
One rule you never burn a bridge even if you don't like it. I feel like him saying what he said is a slap in the face to all that sat and watch his videos... I grew to like his channel and he could crap on Nu metal all he wants but that is the time I got into rock and will always love it I dont care what anyone says about it. But for him to say he just did it for the money, he had no interest in music is bs...you will not put that much time & energy behind anything if you hated it..and for years.. He could have said thank you for yhr support and he's moving on to consulting..I would have rather that...im i losing sleep over it no but money will get low and they quick fix of youtube will call him again...after what he pulled he's going to have a hard time getting people not to forget what he said on the way out...
Once he said he has never listened to a metallica album, as someone from the 80s id hazard to say that would be impossible considering the music he listened too. Struck me as weird
Nah I get that. Neither have I. I like them but I've never listened an album through because most of it is mid. It's the same with most people. That's why bands have set lists because they know what the fans want. So I'd believe him tbh about that.
He could have said that. Not come out pretending he didn’t like music and didn’t enjoy making content. Nobody sticks around that long if you don’t enjoy it.
@@MTNReacts how does that even contradict this? He enjoyed it at first but eventually got burnt out of hashing out the same content, when he did try to produce other types of content it didn't get as much views so he just quit to focus on things he actually enjoys like design and consulting. Get over it it's really not that deep.
I was a fan of his Twitch streams. I don't expect all content creators to have a positive relationship with their fanbase. But it's always wild to see them pretty much say f you and bounce.
Both. He loves music, but is a business man. He would mention occasionally that he would love to make videos about business and marketing, but the music videos are what gets the views. He put on a persona for the channel and used it and musical knowledge to get the views. He was vocal about being burnt out of making videos about genres and bands, after a while they all become the same story. I hope he returns to make business related videos.
Dude comes off so disingenuous and ungrateful towards his fans. Sure he had a lot of haters on Twitter and the hardcore scene, but he seems more worried about them than his 600K subscribers that still regularly tuned into and enjoyed his videos. No farewell video, waited months to go on an interview just to be like “yeah I quit because all I wanted was money and hit my financial goals. I don’t care about this music stuff”. Even in his videos, he’d always talk about the financial and marketing side of music and call people nerds for actually taking interest in the music itself.
Yeahhhhhh it is the subscribers. You never ever turn your back on the people that put you were you are. A little final farewell video or a community post at the very minimum but you don't just up and leave a fan base that like you say regularly tuned in and enjoyed his content. 600K is a lot of people to just up and leave. A lot of creators would kill for that following.
I used to watch him... He became somewhat irritating to me, so I unsubbed a long time ago. A lot of negativity in the content and a lot of judgement on people's vocabulary are just a couple of reasons I lost interest. He just seemed to go from ok to absolute dick. Wasn't even aware he left tbh. You're correct on money not being the best reason to make a channel. I remember past channels of yours (back when my user name was Nero and I was into a certain hobby). I know you're speaking the truth about that you couldn't continue doing something as I've seen you move on to different things. I haven't seen you in a while as I took a break from the platform, and it's nice to see you doing new content. This video was suggested randomly. I'm glad it was. A well thought out video. Take care, dude.
Eyyyy nice to see you again dude!! Damn that seems like so long ago now and do you know what? I don't miss it one bit. Glad to see you have found the new channel. I say new it is entering its 5th year already!! that is insane to think. Hope you are well.
I don't really miss the scene. Once Dean left TH-cam, that was definitely it for me. I'm more into dark electronic and industrial music these days. It may be another reason I've not seen your content along with my absence. I still have my ups and downs with mental health. I'm doing ok. I have some appointments to help with that. I always appreciated you and Dean being supportive of those types of issues. With nice comments. Just subbed. Nice to see you looking so well, mate. You have quite the following. Thank you for the warm reply, and thank you for all the entertainment and positivity you put over the years.
@@Hexx_Iztenze Thanks for the sub really appreciate it. Yeah I was close with Dean he was a gent. Shame it all had to end but nothing lasts forever I suppose. Yeah this was a fresh channel started nearly 5 years ago now and it really has taken off. The community over here is great and as for mental health we have a server on Discord where there is always someone to talk to. I don't tolerate people being nasty or horrible around here. The MTN community is super cool and really supportive.
I feel glad he’s gone because I used to binge his videos when I was going through something really bad😅 the way he exposed himself is hilarious. What a fraud.
I don't know him, but he seems bluntly defiant in this video, as if he is saying "I have no interest in music" as a cope in response to negative feedback. Maybe this really is his true opinion, or maybe he needs to grow up and stop trying to seem too tough for criticism. "Smooth-brained" people: this is a shitty way to refer to other humans. I get the impression he is an arsehole tbh.
Ah, folks are suggesting that people didn't react well to learning he was 34 when he started dating his wife, who was 18 at the time. And now she makes videos with shitty views on youtube? Maybe that's the cause of his current "No, don't say I was mad. Please don't tell them I'm mad" stance.
Kudos to him. I got duped by him too, the straight edge guy that got addicted to substances and whatever sad tale he had to tell about his life. It was all carefully calculated and crafted to make enough money to move on. He now will let you pay him to educate you on how to score on TH-cam
Yeah, it sounds to me like he's just burnt out and maybe hates his audience for the way they hate him. I mean, you can only go so long with being told you suck without starting to resent your fanbase. He's been saying for years he doesn't really like certain bands but makes the videos because it pays and that's what people click on, videos about nu metal. According to him when he talked about trap metal and emo rap he got tons of hate and I'm inclined to belive it. I bet he got a lot of shit in the comments because of course alot of metal fans (not all) hate rap and new stuff. The dude made a few videos with titles like "Why I make fun of metal fans." And in the video, he's pointing out that some metal heads can be narrow minded. You can see he wanted to talk about cool new music. But people kept shooting him down and I guess that probably took a toll on him. And he probably started to hate his audience for that shit. I know I would. I'm not saying it's right. But I understand that part of it. It's sad to see him go out like this. I actually liked his content mostly. He got me into tons of new music from trap metal to pop punk. I don't think he's a poser like people are saying. The dude has 2 Hatebreed tattoos and listens to Cerebral Incubation. I mean, I doubt he's a fucking poser if he knows who that is 😂
I only cared about his hardcore and punk videos. He did introduce me to Ghostemane. I liked his content but I didn't bother watch stuff abound bands I didn't care about. Fair play.
I feel like the years I spent watching him were stolen from me lol. Its a bizzare feeling. I didn't know about the grooming allegations, that would explain alot.
I found him frustrating. In the past he could certainly talk about bands he liked with enough authority to make it clear he knew what he was talking about. As time went on though, especially with his second channel, it was like he was just trolling. I think he thought he was funny, but his funny takes just had no humour in them. I remember he said of Babymetal fans (I'm not a fan of the band, and as I recall, you don't like them either) that fans of them 'must be into little girls' and seemed genuinely shocked that people thought that was a bad take. Band-Maid, he declared, were also just for people with a maid fetish, although I do think he was just going out of his way to not like Japanese music, because he didn't want to be thought of as the kind of guy who is into Asian women (because of his wife). And I think that maybe hints at a problem - I think he liked being accepted, and scenes, more than the music. He was into straight edge because of personal alcohol issues, and anger issues. He kept going on about bands he didn't like 'not being the kind of band the cool kids at school would listen to', as if that should matter. Everyone has opinions, and their take on bands/genres, but I think you have to go almost out of you way to say something is just your opinion. I like punk, for example, and as I recall your really don't, but that's just an opinion, and you can't argue with that. Finn though, always took his opinion like an objective undeniable truth, which meant that if there was a band he didn't like, he'd have to invent a reason why they must like it "...because it can't be the music". I think the reaction to him quitting shows he'd become very disliked, but in his own mind, I'm sure he has no idea why. To his credit though, despite his numbers, he would still often reply to comments, which is quite something given how many he must get.
I can't imagine how many comments he must have got, I know how many I get and already at 39K it is borderline impossible to respond to them all. I reply to 5 and there is 10 more already posted. I have been a bit slower posting content lately due to being sick and they have calmed down slightly but I already know they are going to pick back up. I always try and reply or atleast acknowledge the comment has been made. It is the least you can do to say thank you for someone taking time out of their day to leave a comment even if it is a bad one. Appreciate you saying about the opinion thing. I will never go off on someone for liking something I don't. I am not MASSIVELY into Punk but can appreciate certain tracks. I am also mature enough to know there is a massive punk scene still and good on the people for liking it. I will always champion a community that supports what is still alternative music even if it isn't to my particular tastes. Hope you are doing well!
He appears arrogant enough to believe what he’s saying regardless of lying or not. You called it correctly labelling him a C-nut but like you I unsubbed some time ago, he’s pretty much my age and some of the things he said was a little bit off I often questioned if he was entirely honest at times. He is a contrarian so this might just be that playing out. We’ll see when it all shakes out. He has often said he doesn’t like SOAD. Can’t know that without having listened to them.
He could create a whole series of videos of actually listening to the bands he said he doesn't like but having never listened to them. He might find something he likes that would be a fun series. Ah well he has dipped now!
He's has/had a career in corporate America doing advert work or something like that. Alongside other smart Financial decisions we aren't privvy to AND careful planning with a spouse that's on the same page as you financially it's not impossible. Conspiracy brain rot is a bitch lmao
I do think his best videos for me were when he highlighted the business side of music cause very few channels really delved into it and a lot of fans don't wanna act like business plays a part in it That being said I think there were times when he came off too business minded and "if it's not popular it's bad" at times which I think kinda rubbed a lot of people the wrong way
intresting thoughts. i feel the same way. no one involves themselves thta much and then say naaa i wasnt into it lol hmmm you got me thinking about my videos since i put alot of bands music in my videos. hahah will that effect my potetianl to take money? lol
@ thats what ive been told about TH-cam. i do enjoy it even though its a grind. But i have fun making my reviews and talking about this stuff. Lol. collab one day eh?
Lad was always trying to make a financially successful channel. he was honest about what he actually listened to as well. Content wise, he only fucked up in blaming his audience for the dogshit he put out
It would be lovely to get paid to be a content creator but it is far from easy. I have been going nearly 5 years on this channel now and I used to do something else before this. I don't make even 50% of my day job wage a month right now and people are surprised but that. I never ever started out to make money but to supplement the income some months and maybe have the chance to buy something new for the studio or PC is a nice little bonus. TH-cam is a grind and a half to make a living out of though.
@@tristen_grant Sure. but are they making content they stand by and working on visibility or pandering to their audience and complaining that they don't like their own videos?
@@MTNReacts I hear ya. but you're making content you're artistically invested in. Finn pivoted his content to click bait and then ended his career whinging cause the content he wished he was making gained no traction and blaming his audience
His videos definitely felt more genuine early on when he was talking about bands he actually liked. Even in the biography videos, he had his own personal opinions and experiences in those videos that resonated with viewers. It went downhill once he said fuck it and started doing videos about bands he had no interest in, complete Wikipedia copy and paste. All the Nu Metal, 2000s Butt Rock, Prog Rock, all those genres he hates.
He's a liar. He must be in my opinion! Point being, how does anyone know about bands like Meshuggah if they never listen to music or never heard of them? Wikipedia LMAO? Yeah right. Worst of all in my day we at the very least called that being a poser. So he's at least a poser I guess 😂
Tbh most of finns stuff was just clips and segments from his streams lets be hinest. He stopped putting work in a year and a half ago after his ronnie video. He cooked himself really.
I see what you're saying that it may be a smokescreen, but also lets be honest, most people work in jobs doing things they don't really care about. I work in an industry I never had any interest in whatsoever, but I like the job still because my interest in what we do is not essential, and I can easily fake being interested in it when I'm not. But I think the guy didn't necessarily 'hate' music, he just didn't care about it. I think it seems odd to us because most of us create TH-cam channels around things we love, but a lot of people also just see it as a job and nothing more.
I hear what you are saying but TH-cam can and for a lot of people is a job you don’t get paid for in most cases for many years. Anything liveable at least.
@MTNReacts yeah I have another channel I run with someone else, we've made absolutely nothing from it (largely because we like the freedom we have). But channels can be astroturfed too, get external funding to boost them in the algorithm and grow the channel. I think it's entirely possible he was just an industry plant, maybe not even a music industry plant, just someone who wanted to make a lot of extra money.
I don't buy it. I think he's trolling and this whole thing is just him making a point that people can be easily duped by content creators and the music industry. He knows way too much about music and wouldn't burn the bridge in that way.
I honestly never really cared about any of his personality glitches or potentially unethical side, I just found him annoying and thought he had shitty taste.
Very interesting video 🖤 I really love how you take the middle ground when it comes to Finn McKenty. I also love making content too, and I agree that it’s definitely a labour of love. I want to add the fact if he has invested properly and set up good plans and wants to live moderately, he may be able to just F off forever. Which I hope he does tbh 😅
Thank you! It is probably the case that he has made enough to buy and pay for a house and now he’s got enough to live on. Don’t act the way you are now though and pretend you didn’t like music. Nobody is that good of a liar. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Thank you. ❤️
It's clearly a lie. He might be trying to run away from the light because of the allegations about him being a groomer. Doing it this way might cause the Streisand effect though 😅
come on guys stop picking on finn, he is what he is, he had some decent content when it came to punk and metal, its not a big deal, the dude moved on thats all, this you tube thing aint gonna last for ever, did I like everything he did no not at all but there is alot of popular creators on here that suck balls
At the end of the day he’s basically an intelligent boomer that happened to grow up in the alternative music scene. It doesn’t help that he lives in a hyper progressive area due to his wife’s family even though they both have become far more conservative and would likely prefer to be around more like minded folks. But above all he’s done with social society and just wants to have the family now that he never got as a kid of divorce abuse and poverty
I think as someone who spent a lot of time in the metalcore and hardcore scenes, that they have some of the worst most toxic fan base. You basically have to be an NPC and have no opinions on anything ever and just follow every trend or they’ll turn on you. Especially the fans on reddit or different online groups. I can imagine that making content in those scenes can feel like being held hostage by your fan base. On top of that Finn does seem to have an elitist better than you attitude as well. So I can see how someone like him would become bitter doing this. It’s also not just his takes people attacked, but many on reddit imply he’s a fascist and sex offender for but being communist and being in an age gap relationship. I can see how having your views and beliefs constantly misrepresented and demonized would make you bitter.
the irony of the his channels name and what his only goal was for youtube? He kinda feel he wanted to become famous, or to be big to justify his self worth, but now that the ship has sailed, he's over it and just kinda trolling by being a dick aka what a fake punker with MBA would thinks punk rock... its mental illness for sure... also his whole outfit has always been giving "starter pack" vibes for Pacific NW... he also has this increasing sense of self rightness after the Fat Mike interview
He was always what I call an algorithm channel. The clickbait title. The obnoxious thumbnails. Phoned in wiki videos. Didn’t realize he was gone. His channel was all numbers. No substance. nu metal videos every 4 days 🥱
His subs feel betrayed and used
One of the reasons i subed to his channel is mostly cause of his marketing/business angle.
He really managed to be an elitist and poser at the same time XD
Pretty hard to do but somehow it was managed! Love this comment haha.
He's running away cuz we found out he's a groomer
The end
You might be a little right on that
He's always been honest about why he started a TH-cam channel and while it's not exactly word for word, what he said in the interview is indeed why he started his channel in the first place.
Finn had some of the worst opinions in the rock/metal/alternative sphere anyway, had very little time for his content
This dude has "TATTOOS" Of bands names but claims it was just for the money?.. yeah sure buddy..That makes sense. 👀
yeah, he's either lying, or he's a serious sociopath
He would always spout that rock music is dead. When I would tell him that there is tons of rock music coming out of goth/post-punk right now he would never respond. He had a very obvious agenda: to make money by any means necessary. If it involved lying then so be it. Personally, I think the huge reason why he quit is because of him getting with his wife while she was underage. People have been calling him out majorly for it so he decides to quit rather than face consequences for his actions. Screw him.
his wife was underage at that time? WOW, didn't knew that
She was apparently like 16 and he was in his 30s when they got together
@@MrWill9894 probably most of women of their age couldn't stand him
Finn is a lame. He's a liar about not caring about music cuz everyone loves music and he just couldn't handle us calling him out. He's full of it. Good riddance.
Facts
Lie or not. The excuse he used for quitting makes him look fake af and bad.
Something about Finn has always rubbed me the wrong way. All things aside.
Yep. There was always something off about him. Not sure I buy the whole "never was into music thing" Edit - I havent watched any of his videos in years, maybe his more recent ones were different.
@@imaguy123 I found his love of marketing extremely off-putting tbh.
Oh, no, the guy who thinks SOAD and Sleep Token are bad is gone, I'm so sad 😂
Haha yeah I won’t hear anything bad said about Sleep Token 😂😂 oh god I’ve become one of those super fans nahhh I know people don’t like them but only if they can give a genuine reason. Hating because it’s cool to is just retarded.
But what does Cory Taylor think about him?
Something happen to that guy, Something really weird and private, what he said in that interview sounds script.

Haha amen?!
Guys.... he's a marketing expert.
The audacity for him go and say musicians are lost cause.
Hello fellow Merseyside dweller back at you!! Yeahh that interview made him look worse than any of his really bad takes in some of his worst videos.
He often said that Eighteen Visions was his favorite band, which is a wild thing that no normie would say. Dude is 100% into alternative spaces. Probably not nu-metal, but no doubt he's into hardcore, punk rock, metalcore, etc...
Was about to say
Finn’s trolling

Once he said he has never listened to a metallica album, as someone from the 80s id hazard to say that would be impossible considering the music he listened too. Struck me as weird
Nah I get that. Neither have I. I like them but I've never listened an album through because most of it is mid. It's the same with most people. That's why bands have set lists because they know what the fans want. So I'd believe him tbh about that.
I think he’s going through something can’t quite put my finger on it
TH-cam was a side hustle for him. He made his bag and dipped. He wants to be in design and consulting.
Get over it it's really not that deep.
he said that he will one day retire on youtube many times and he talks about this topics only because people want to hear it so it's not a suprise
I never understood him, and I could never tell if his takes were for real or a joke.
awesome video, dude.
Thank you for watching!
To quote Johnny Rotten " you get the feeling you're being cheated "
I was a fan of his Twitch streams. I don't expect all content creators to have a positive relationship with their fanbase. But it's always wild to see them pretty much say f you and bounce.
his twitch stuff was entertaining. He was a pretty funny guy
A lot of creators would kill for that following.
he's not in the position to say "punk is dead" "the fall of _____" he say he doesn't love music but keeps yapping about it
I used to watch him...
Finn was and is a liar who just wants to kick the hornets nest then cry wolf when the hornets sting him.
I feel glad he’s gone because I used to binge his videos when I was going through something really bad😅 the way he exposed himself is hilarious. What a fraud.
Used to love his channel when he actually talked about punk rock.
I just find him super boring and super negative and unwatchable i tryed to watch him and just got depresed so i stoped.
A lot of his comments were really dismissive and mindless: no reasons given, just a lot of judgement and self-soothing.
Those Allegations surprised me the most. If proven true, he deserves to be punished
There's no way that fool made enough coin to retire at his age. He's full of shit.
Something isn’t right.
He's has/had a career in corporate America doing advert work or something like that. Alongside other smart Financial decisions we aren't privvy to AND careful planning with a spouse that's on the same page as you financially it's not impossible. Conspiracy brain rot is a bitch lmao
takes a psychopath to be able to go to that level of deception, if indeed that is what he was doing - being deceptive
It will all come out in the end if there are other reasons.
I do think his best videos for me were when he highlighted the business side of music cause very few channels really delved into it and a lot of fans don't wanna act like business plays a part in it
That being said I think there were times when he came off too business minded and "if it's not popular it's bad" at times which I think kinda rubbed a lot of people the wrong way
I honestly wished I stopped watching Finn years ago. I just ended up hatewatching someone who was baiting everyone.
first I've heard of him quitting, but then again didn't take much notice. But yeah it's not a easy grind and it's not a get a rich quick scheme
intresting thoughts. i feel the same way. no one involves themselves thta much and then say naaa i wasnt into it lol
hmmm you got me thinking about my videos since i put alot of bands music in my videos. hahah will that effect my potetianl to take money? lol
Just keep grinding and growing eventually you might be able to 😉
@ thats what ive been told about TH-cam. i do enjoy it even though its a grind. But i have fun making my reviews and talking about this stuff. Lol. collab one day eh?
Lad was always trying to make a financially successful channel. he was honest about what he actually listened to as well. Content wise, he only fucked up in blaming his audience for the dogshit he put out
Almost every channel is trying to make a financially successful channel.
@@gavxmas No, but my comment was about your first sentence.
Let’s get MTN to Finn Mckenty’s subscribers and level before gta 6
You absolute legend ❤️
5:33 the guy put “the work in” putting out video after video after video of just reading Wikipedia articles 😅☠️ through his own admission
Making YT into your main source of income changes motivation.
I mean there is almost no money in rock/metal coverage nowadays since rap is more popular now. I feel that this isnt a career path
I heard he left TH-cam but didn't hear the reason. I didn't like all of his stuff, but some of his docuo type videos were really good.
Yeah his docu stuff was good I’ll give you that.
Thank you. ❤️
@ yeah, idk if he was a LARPER he was a solid LARPER 🤣
It's clearly a lie.
He might be trying to run away from the light because of the allegations about him being a groomer.
Doing it this way might cause the Streisand effect though 😅
Finn s channel was strong for years. His content grew stale. His takes irritating. He got mad his viewers were bored. He took his ball and went home.
Couldn't have put that better myself to be fair! No more football for you guys!
Oooooh found a channel under 50k subs with a sultry voice talking about cool shit. Rad, cheers man.
Haha thank you!! Never been called sultry before love that!
How is your channel doing?
Something ain't right or he had us duped. If it's the latter for shame
Can i just say yes and move on?
Yes
come on guys stop picking on finn, he is what he is, he had some decent content when it came to punk and metal, its not a big deal, the dude moved on thats all, this you tube thing aint gonna last for ever, did I like everything he did no not at all but there is alot of popular creators on here that suck balls
Agreed. Was cool to watch..
I would leave too. The internet is a disgusting place.
It sure can be
Both.
I doubt he has millions
He has a fair few quid I’d say. His two channels got major views.
He explained all of this 7 months ago. th-cam.com/video/jOzn0dnVyxA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eFM-vnCq1rKM1Kkr

Hes not a boomer. Hes 46.
he always said that he wanted to be a suburban dad, and he archieved it, so good for him
@@tristen_grant Boomer in attitude and views, not in age. Apologies for not making that minor distinction clearer
@@matteissler365 No, my bad for misunderstanding.
