Good review Zdenka. Note the high pass filter is frequency not decibels. The frequency content outside the cutoff point attenuates smoothly in a downward direction. Thus, the high pass filter lets the highs pass while blocking the lows. The 3 benefits of an HPF for microphones: To rid the signal of noise and low-end rumble To lessen the proximity effect To reduce "plosives"
Thank you for your explanation.... You are absolutely right. I make more easier reviews for general people I don’t get into technical details that much. I speak to them the way they see things are written on a paper
Having just looked at the Sam Holland review of this mic, he too in several places and in text refers to low frequency cuts as 75dB and 150dB. Anyone with a basic audio knowledge knows it's Hertz. If you're an audio equipment reviewer, this is pretty shonky!
Thank you for your detailed explanation and step wise fashion in your presentations, it helps me a lot in deciding what will work best. I truly am happy you include our smartphone in your reviews because that’s my choice in filmmaking 👍
I recently bought a VM30 Lite and it really doesn't cut it at all, hardly any better than the camera's internal mic, I think internal power in the mic is a must and this looks like a great mic for the price. Thanks for the video, great help!
The 75 and 150 filters cuts off the low frequencies 1. Directional mics have a proximity effect where the bass increases a lot when you speak close, 6" or less. At 1" it could be 10db or more.. 2. It cuts off the pops when speaking too close. 3. 150 is used when wind noise becomes a problem
Hmmm, good mic and good spec - just a little bit bright for my liking, would have preferred a better bass response. Currently using the RODE NTG2 which is about right for me. Horses for courses, not all mics are suitable for all voices, best to try before you buy if you can. Love Zdenka's videos, always informative and well researched. Thank you Zdenka.
Zdenka, thank you for such awesome content. We have been watching you since last August - and have learned SO MUCH. We started our channel less than 3 weeks ago and will qualify for monetization tomorrow. I am hoping you will be able to give us some insight: I need to be able to record audio of both my wife and I simultaneously in a noisy outdoor environment. The mic needs to block the noise as much as possible so I'm thinking this Comica will do the trick - If we were to have the mic about 1-2 feet away and pointed in-between us would that work? Multiple lavaliers are just not working - they don't block anything - and noise reduction software makes us sound like we're in a fishbowl. Thanks in advance :)
You are very welcome…. Outdoors use lav mic and have it closed on you otherwise you will always get wind sound… here is the one I use th-cam.com/video/GF3AC6vcYGE/w-d-xo.html
@@avg18 Hello thanks for your comment regarding using your smartphone. Can you share what type of smartphone are you using? I have an Iphone XR and looking at this model and also the Comica VM10 just not sure which one. Thanks again
„Here in this case you need only this cable“ … in which case? :D I would need a TRS-TRRS Cable for my Fuji X-T3. I love this, thanks Comica :D. Other Reviewers tell me, there are 2 cables in the package. The Amazon description say TRRS-TRRS, the image on Amazon say TRS-TRRS and a comment on Amazon say TRS-TRRS AND TRRS-TRRS … wtf.
Great review Zdenka! I'm in need of a decent mic for my "new" venture into vlogging, and home recordings to use for my vlogs. I might ask Santa for one! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay happy, and have a great weekend!
It would have been interesting to see how close you actually were to the traffic. I am a mobile creator and passing cars have ruined so many shots. I thought the mic sounded really good. It may be time for me to invest in better audio 👍😁
I wasn’t standing right next to them... About 40metres.... To be honest I haven’t really ever heard mic which would really work to be right beside traffic. If you’re right beside of traffic then you must know that this is gonna happen
@Age of Rogerio I am just editing a video that shows you how different types of mikes sound if you stand in the middle of the road filming yourself (vlogging style). Spolier alert: in noisy environments a dynamic hand-held microphone is so quiet you cannot even hear the traffic. You actually need to add some ambience from a second mike just to make it sound realistic, Lav mikes come second, especially if the traffic is behind and your body is shading the noise. Shotguns pick up sound from the front, if traffic is behind you, it is likely to pick up a lot of that noise. If you can set up an overhead boompole and point the mike downwards, and very close to your mouth , just out of the picture, that's good, but then you need to carry another tripod or have a microphone person to hold the mike above your head, it is not for lone vloggers :)
My Huawei p20 pro is very difficult with external mics. After doing a lot of research on TH-cam, i found one Comica that plugs directly into the uSB-C and that is the Comica VS09TC. I ordered one from Ebay and its taking a while because of the virus but it'll be worth it.
Thank you for an excellent review. In my opinion; while the COMICA offered better volume, the camera mic actually appeared to cancel the background noise better. I would have to say that I am not impressed with this mic. Especially for $129.00. Thanks again!
The filters are in hz not db, 2 different kinds of measurements. This mic does not sound bad at all just wish someone would make 1 that has these features but with a much more portable size.
Thanks for the detailed review - it really helps. Just curious, what mic were you using at the first of your video, prior to testing that Comica? And do you like that one, or the Comica better?
I don't know if you answer old questions, but if you do, have you been using it at all for your vids? Could you tell me if it turns itself off when the camera is turned off like the Deitys do?
I really don't understand that if you have a wireless transmitter cheaper from the same brand smaller and easier sorry not from the brand but from rode for a view buks more
I think it sounds good but I want to do short demos where I can be between 6 ft to maybe 15 feet away. how would it do for that distance, or should I look into a wireless mic?

It sounds better on the phone than on the camera though.
Yeah I liked it better with the smartphone.
Thanks for sharing... that’s why I said you be judge on your own... We all have different ears and expectations
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I had to really crank up the sound from the smart phone though in order to be heard.... I added about 15dB in post

Sound really good with phone also
Thank you for sharing
I really liked how crisp the sound was. Did you use a comica microphone for the review part? The one in the studio I mean
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. No the first microphone was Mirfak
With all the good quality very portable Gimball avaiable now is there any portable microphone conected to the smartphone you recomend?
Good question.... I don’t have a straight answer right now but I’m getting ready to make a video on that
@@ZdenkaDarula that's great. Looking forward for it

Meh...for the price I think there are better sounding shotgun microphones, but that's my opinion I could be wrong

No it doesn’t turn off... you have to do it yourself
Can I connect this microphone to my PC or do I need an interface or console?
I don’t think it is for PC. It’s only four cameras.
I really don't understand that if you have a wireless transmitter cheaper from the same brand smaller and easier sorry not from the brand but from rode for a view buks more
That’s how they price it....

I would suggest wireless microphone. Are use another one from Comica it’s this one th-cam.com/video/z_6-SvUZ4jc/w-d-xo.html
It’s not out til December
=(
Yes it is it is available on Amazon.
too much audio from phone and camera not enough audio from the microphone being reviewed
Sorry that you feel that way…. All video after this one are recorded by this microphone.. I use nothing else
Thats big, but nice
