  • The jump of a flying squirrel from tree to tree is quite a sight to behold as it spreads the membrane between its hands and feet and performs a spectacular glide. The flying squirrels are completely nocturnal animals, and during the day in winter, several to 10 of them gather together deep in tree holes and sleep huddled together to protect themselves from the cold. The flying squirrel has a head and body length of 16 cm, a tail of 10 cm, and a weight of about 100 g.
More than 10 flying squirrels live in a group in the hole in the tree that was taken in this video, and when the sun goes down, they stick their heads out of the hole one by one and run up to the top of the tree, keeping a watchful eye on the outside of the hole. It's really cute to see them taking a break on a branch along the way and preening themselves carefully. Their eyes are large and their faces are full of expression when viewed from the front, so their facial expressions are truly soothing.
When the break was over, the flying squirrels ran up to the treetops one after another. This is because they fly out from the treetops in all directions and glide to other trees around them to feed.
Luckily on this day, four of them glided toward a tree 60 meters away. I was able to capture the gliding scene with a camera set up under a tree 60 meters away, but since it was dark after sunset, I had no choice but to open the aperture. The focus is blurry at the scene where they ran up to the treetops, jumped out, and started gliding. Instead, I set the latter part of the glide to be in focus to a certain extent, and I played the latter part of the glide in double slow motion, so I think you can understand the flying squirrel's skillful gliding technique.
However, later on, this burrow was attacked by a least weasel. Sadly, the flying squirrels that lived in this burrow, with their amazing gliding skills and adorable facial expressions, have since disappeared.

This is the cutest animal I have seen, after my dog... How is so cute, with them tiny hands, looking chonky, but can fly 😮 🐿️❤

Watching Ezo-momonga glide is amazing just because we can rarely watch them glide. Thanks for sharing such video!!
