I always thought he had a great voice. At least. I hear it. I know something like this is subjective. But to me, I think it's a mix of perhaps a lack of technique (which probably would be harder to master considering their kind of music), and the fact they bounce around a lot in live shows. All of that, plus time can add up. I've always loved his voice. But in live shows, it always made me wince seeing him lift his head on the high notes like he did. Now. I'm no music expert, but those things stand out to me. A couple of songs have that touch. But as you said, majority of this album feels more natural
It's so hard to choose a favorite, my favorite track migrates. First it was Set Me free because of the epic Lou Gehrig quote followed by the best solo ever. It literally made me tear up when I first heard it. Then it was Drag the Lake, after seeing an amazing vocal cover of it and realizing the brilliance of the vocals. Then it was Belltsville Blues because it's the heaviest track on the album and lord knows I love heavy tracks with awesome breakdowns. 🤘 Then I went back to "rediscover" the beginning of the album and it was surprisingly Burn Alive, a track I was pretty sure I didn't like at first. That intro and chorus just popped into my head randomly. Then I took a quick detour over to Kick Rocks because I identified with the lyrics of knowing better but still being not being able to stick up for yourself as you should when others are running you down. Then I got into watching the video for Feels Like I'm Dying and I think I might prefer the version with the dialog overlayed as it is in the video. Then I had to go back and rewatch the Doomsday video as I was now getting into the narrative in the two videos. Current fav might be Holier than heaven, "I'm still sick with my depression" means to me that even though you might currently feel ok there is still the underlying condition that you must learn to live with and manage hopefully with the help of medication and not so much booze, though I do still love to drink lol. And I love Joel's sort of on the edge of despair sounding vocals. Oh and that breakdown, yaaas.
Such a beautiful song expertly done in every section from the balance of the screaming to the singing the guitar the power the drums and effects everything phenomenally done. My only regret is only now finding out about this song.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave is only begotten son, that whosever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
I think this one is the closest to their old stuff, just with modern touches thrown in. Definitely the most Amity song on the album. Sure, they're all fantastic but that techno sound they have in some doesn't scream amity imo, it's nice they still have songs with kickass sounds too. I'll never grow tired to them! I'll listen to them when I'm old and grey lol
Agreed! I love this song. But I have to keep thinking through the whole album that the kids choir is going to come in at some point and it just doesnt. 😞
I'm really loving this song. 😍 This is the Amity I'm used to. I just keep wondering why they got rid of the kids choir they have on their albums. I really enjoyed that.
This is probably my favorite album in front of Let the Ocean take me and This Could Be heartbreak. I love this album. Love the calm before the storm sorta feel. Calm and then it hits you with everything coming together
Jake Endoobie your cover photo is fucking turnover!!! I love them so much. I saw them play with “the story so far” and “basement” a couple Halloween’s ago!! Glad I’m starting to see them other places as well!!
Im sick of chasing heaven Im going straigh to hell Im chained down to my past So I GIVE UP I dont believe in god no Ive got no time for that Chained down to my convictions I GIVE UP 💓💓💓
Everything before “this could be heartbreak” was the best tbh. So many songs helped me through so much shit and I can’t thank one band enough. I’m sad to see the direction they are going but I do understand bands change over time. We all fell in love with this band for at least an album, a song, a lyric. We will all continue to love this band whether it is the new content or the old.
TankDempsey 6121 this album is fuckin beautiful, they always seems to release their albums as I need them. I can’t believe how much misery has helped the short time it’s been out
Jesse 4R I’m not saying it’s a bad album.. in saying it’s not what they used to be for me. Let the ocean take me, severed ties, chasing ghosts, those are the top albums in my opinion. I’m not shitting on you or this album. I’m simply saying it’s changing. All bands change. And this band is changing towards more of an industrial post hardcore with a bit of pop mixed in there. They lyrics don’t always make sense anymore either. And I’m not saying it’s bad. I’m just saying I don’t feel the pain behind the music anymore. I really felt it in “let the ocean take me” just saying..
Eric yeah, when I saw them at warped tour this year too ahren was screaming at some parts. It’s just so amazing though, because sometimes you don’t catch it in the songs when they’re singing, but when they’re live you hear and see it. And they sing it differently and it makes it better. But it sounds so good, when they’re singing/screaming together. This is honestly such a beautiful album, but their older albums are so amazing too. They’re so good at what they do
I know this comment is 2 years old but I gotta say it, screw their perception of "satanic" music. I was raised by Christian grandparents and started listening to stuff like this when I was 10 years old. They HATED that I was listening to it, but as a 10 year old I looked them both in the eyes and told them that it is MY OWN choice. I'm now 21 and still listen to stuff like this. They still don't like it, but they respect my choice even if it isn't something they wanted. Not to mention the reason I listen to stuff like this is because I'm consistently angry, and screaming along to something like this is a great way of dealing with it. Listening to metal is a form of catharsis, and the overall metal community is not only accepting but also compassionate towards one another. We all have our burdens, and when you step foot into the metal community you will more than likely find someone who went through the same shit and is probably willing to listen and talk to you.
When you buy the album 2 times because your vehicles stupid radio won't play songs off your phone/mp3 player. YUP that happened. ❤ this album. Edit: my vehicle has the aux jack and usb port but it's a used vehicle and it has it's issues. And my computer doesn't has a disc drive so I can't burn a copy.
Awesome album
"My soul is too worthless to sell" these lyrics hit on a new kind of level
Yeah it is like a 14 year old kid instead of 12
@@torzsokszilveszter2444 more like an eight teen year old
They're pretty edgy, all right
I replayed that part over and over.
Fun fact: selling your soul isn't a one time thing. You have to do it daily. Which I wouldn't recommend.
Amen
Love how Ahrens cleans aren’t all auto tune this album. Sounds much more natural.
Yeah that's so much better. 🤙🏼

It does matey and fresh and more improvised 🤘

THE DEVIL'S GOD AND HE'S A LIAR. Explains everything. Joel, You sir, are a genius.

Ahren is one of the best vocalist I've ever heard
The best part of this song is the breakdown where he just lets out all his screams
By far, the best track of the album. Glad to see they still with a bit of metalcore into their new songs
To be honest I wish it was heavier, but that's post-hardcore for ya
Such a beautiful song expertly done in every section from the balance of the screaming to the singing the guitar the power the drums and effects everything phenomenally done.
My only regret is only now finding out about this song.
2025 & I'm still sick with my depression 🙂
Favourite off the album for sure! That's a lovely breakdown indeed
Favourite track off the album
I just bought this CD the other day. I'm more of a fan of the older TAA but I absolutely love this album. This one really hits home
So I just said drag the lake was my favorite, I would like to have two favorites. okay? Good. Thanks.
JewcyR6 i'll allow it

Cringe

nothing can stop you, its your world!

Ya I agree. This album is so soft and Poppy. Like wtf??
‘I’m still sick with my depression’
First line sold me this song lmao
My favorite of this new album 👏
I'm really loving this song. 😍 This is the Amity I'm used to. I just keep wondering why they got rid of the kids choir they have on their albums. I really enjoyed that.

So geil :) Jungs ihr braucht echt noch gute Videos :)
omg I love this album
One of the few redeeming tracks on this album
There's nothing to redeem, the album is great!
Not really tho, if we're being honest.
Misery and beltsvills blues are pretty good. Loving their past albums yeah...this is harder to get into.
@@michaelcastillo243 I didn't like misery, i'd say Burn Alive, Beltsville Blues and this one were pretty decent
Is ahren screaming ‘dragging me to hell”, too?
I think so
When I saw them live at Warped Tour Ahren was Joel’s backup screams so he does have the ability to scream so it’s very possible it is him
Eric yeah, when I saw them at warped tour this year too ahren was screaming at some parts. They’re so good at what they do
Do people not know that Ahren used to do all the screams?
You must be new then. You can normally hear Ahren scream and he used to always scream
I got a fav
This is the only one track that i has like.
I love it 😍😍
That fucking breakdown is life changing
it's getting harder day by day to convince my parents i don't listen to satanic music smh
(seriously one of my favorite songso ff this album)

Oh my...
end of 2018 the best album on post hardcore...
Set me free, die, drag the lake, holier than heaven, in that order.
IM SICK OF CHASING HEAVEN, IM GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL, IM CHAINED DOWN TO MY PAST SO I GIVE UP!! ❤❤❤
Shut up
Cadê os BRs?
Salveeee quebrada

NADA COMO "LET THE OCEAN TAKE ME".... PERO AUN ASÍ SON MI BANDA FAVORITA!!!!!YEAH!!!
Tu si sabes! \m/
This song contradicts set me free? I wonder is this album telling a narrative?
The fuck drop at 2:30 though! Anyone else wanna start a pit now?
This is the only song that takes me back to when they were good. The best song off this album in my opinion.
Yeah don't mind this one off the new album but let's be honest nothing is gonna be "let the ocean take me"
LTOTM is amazing but Youngbloods is the best IMO.
^^ Youngbloods will always be the best album
Severed ties imo. But youngbloods is probably second best for me🖤
Chasing ghosts/youngbloods
If all their new stuff is going to sound like this album then I have no problem with nothing else sounding like LTOTM.
This is the exact opposite of set me free, is it?
"The Devils God, and God's a lier" ❤
Stop
Can some help me understand the meaning of the song ?
Oh yah. This is gonna fuckin' go off live.
2:33
Notice how few people have viewed this song. its cause the few that did are going threw wat this song is about.
Amity is the voice I need but don't have lol
🖤
This is the most bipolar song I've ever fucking heard I fucking love it :D
Here before 5k??!!!😍
I like this album, i think its better than the new one.
